Originally posted by SchippeWreckOh, excellent! I've been meaning to binge-watch True Detective, and I hate UVerse's On Demand interface.
I don't know if I could binge watch that show. We missed a Sunday and ended up watching two episodes back to back - and I had trouble falling asleep that night. I would venture to call it the creepiest show I've ever watched on television.
And not to hijack the thread entirely, the HBOGO PS3 app is terrific. I have noticed the occasional 'buffering' issue, but the interface is infinitely better than Netflix (IMO).
Wolfenstein: The New Order (amazon.com) is available for pre-order and will be released May 20, 2014. It will include a Doom Beta access code. It doesn't say when the Doom Beta will be available, but there's that.
After such a lull, it's nice that there's a solid lineup of games coming in the next few months that will easily separate me from my money!
I preordered inFamous: Second Son. I'm a tiny bit concerned about this game but the other games have been what I wanted so thinking this one will be too - and I really could use something new for PS4. I traded in 6 PS3 games and had about $9 of credit hanging around, which was about a dollar more than I needed. Hooray not having to pay for something.
RBI Baseball for PS3, 360, iOS and Android comes out on 04/10, according to that Twitter message. (PS4 and X1 TBA.) New baseball game in April makes sense, but that means it's a month away and we know nothing about it besides the title - that's a bit more concerning. I guess we can assume there's some sort of baseball playing going on, I'll go out on that limb.
I got the Platinum trophy on Into the Nexus. Turns out I only really needed about an hour more of gameplay, was pretty sweet.
PS+ add of the week is the director's cut of Lone Survivor - it's a survivalist game, though it sounds more Decision Tree focused and less Shoot Monsters. It's Cross Buy, so you can get it for the PS3 and the Vita for the same low price of $0.
Playstation Home is getting Trophies on Wednesday, for some reason. On one hand, why????? On the other hand, you're going to get some people to try the thing again for 15 minutes.
Polygon has a story on RBI Baseball. It's a stripped down arcade game - no with powerups but not with the depth of a normal console MLB game. (Teams will only have 16 official players and there's no online functionality - we're talking that thin.) It's much more a simple pick up and play with as few buttons as possible deal. It'll be digital only and they didn't reveal the price - at $15, this seems fine, but not so much at $30.
This week's PSN update was delayed until Thursday due to unspecified issues. New releases include Towerfall Ascension (PS4) and Dark Souls II (PS3). You can also preorder a Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and this year's MLB the Show - for PS3, the PS4 version won't be out until May.
There's a sale on Call of Duty, all the inFamous games are discounted, and many of the first party games are marked down.
The update might have been delayed because they were busy laying the groundwork for the upcoming rental options; a few games listed 1, 7, and 30 day rental options. They don't actually work and aren't supposed to until this summer.
Thomas Was Alone (PS3) is the critically acclaimed indie platformer about friendship and jumping. Guide a group of sentient rectangles through a series of environments, combining their skills to reach the end of each level.
Unit 13 (PS Vita) is the perfect on-the-go action shooter.
Friendship and jumping! I think I may play that. Mod Nation Racers Roadtrip for Vita leaves the story this week.
New PS3 Releases include Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remastered. I spent an absurd amount of time playing FFX when it first came out. It may also be the last Final Fantasy game I've completed, which is possibly not a coincidence; I remember strongly disliking the protagonist by the end and deciding I must be getting too old for these narratives. (The goofy Final Fantasy X-2 commercial airing on high rotation during RAW for a few months seemed to confirm this.)
Metal Gear Solid V is also out on PS4 (but $10 more?). You can also preorder inFamous Second Son (which releases sometime around at 12:01AM Friday) for PS4 and the FIFA World Cup game for PS3. There's apparently not going to be a World Cup game for PS4 or X1.
The NHL Gamecenter App has been added to Vita. This week's Spring Fever sale is on Grand Theft Auto games, with GTAV marked down to $40. All the fall/winter sport games have been knocked down to $50, and WWE 2K14 is down to $40.
Sony unvieled Project Morpheus, a virtural reality visor for the PS4. It's still in prototype stage and there's no hint of a release date - this more an announcement to get developers excited enough to come up with ways consumers might actually want to use it.
In the more immediate future, an upcoming firmware update will improve on the Share function. A video editor will allow you to edit saved clips, and you'll be able to save the video to USB. Currently it's just upload to YouTube or stream live on Twitch or uStream, but they're working with both Twitch & uStream on archiving the videos (which will be a seperate update.)
How common is it for new releases to be cheaper on the PSN compared to stores? I had preordered Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for the PS3 from GameStop at $29.99 so I'm kicking myself.
Upcoming PS Vita firmware 3.1 increases the maximum of applications on the homescreen from 100 to 500, and adds calendar and voice memo functions.
PS+ Arriving this week: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PS Vita) On Sale: Fez, Bioshock. Leaving next week: Tomb Raider (PS3), Dead Nation Apocalypse (PS4)
Next week is the start of April so there's nothing specifically announced. I had thought this might the long over due DriveClub release, but this interview from two weeks ago says they've gone back to the drawing board and release date is TBD. The person quoted refused to even commit on the game coming out this year. So I'm thinking it's not popping up next week.
I'm about halfway thru inFamous and it seems in the B/B+ range. Very light on plot so far. Maybe more thoughts once I finish.
The PSN Update includes TNN Motorsports Hardcore TR as a PS1 Classic game, and who wasn't asking for that. Also, Call of Duty Ghosts Gold Edition for PS3/PS4.
PS4 now has an MLB.TV Premium app. Vita gets Hulu & Redbox.
