I was in the small minority that did not buy that at all, and I've refused to watch WWE programming since the night after Summerslam as a result. After tonight, hopefully no one else ever gets fooled by the dog and pony show ever again.

Now see, I'm in the reverse position, to a degree. I usually work on Sunday and Monday nights, and have other things going on Fridays so it's been easy for me to fall out of the loop- I check what is going on, and I look for videos if something catches my interest, but for the most part, I've been out of it, and the Network announcement made it easy for me to think hard about getting back in. I had to take today off for other things, so I caught the Rumble, and...it's almost, almost like watching Nitro, near the end, when the powers that be hadn't caught on that the throwing of garbage is no longer a fun interaction with the heels and more of a "we really, REALLY hate what you are putting out there" thing. Granted, I haven't watched a full show in a while, but it's been a long, long time since I have seen an audience totally turn on a show like that. I wonder what they are going to do, because, for all the vitriol being spewed right now, I don't think it'll affect the business one iota now- people are still gonna sign up for the network in droves, because they're putting up a crapload of stuff for a pretty damn reasonable price, with all things considered. Now, if Bryan is still white-hot with the crowds but not getting the push when all those 6-month subscriptions come up for renewal, that may be a different story.

I mean, that's the only thing I like about it, but, hey, it's something.

I won't belabor this point any further, but it has to be said that there's a delicious irony in the Outlaws going into the 1998 Royal Rumble and going over the Road Warriors for their first tag titles, after a feud in which they derided the LOD as a washed-up has-been team...and watching the Outlaws go into the same PPV 16 years later as the washed-up has-been team themselves...and actually WIN! It speaks volumes about the state of this company, especially when you have perfectly good heel teams like The Real Americans and Harper and Rowan sitting RIGHT THERE!

I'd have to think we're getting a six-person Chamber match, because headlining that PPV with Orton/Brock sounds like a death wish. Who goes into the Chamber? Orton, Cena, Wyatt, Bryan, Lesnar, and Punk?

Why the hell have Batista main-event WrestleMania?

If there's a lesson that The E needs to take away from this PPV, it's that they need to do a 180 on Big Dave immediately. That Hollywood persona is still in him and he needs to embrace it, because he could make one hell of a heel. And tonight showed that he won't have any trouble drawing heel heat. Bring back Hollywood Dave!

As long as this thing double-posted, I'll add that I'm saddened (but not surprised) that Dolph Ziggler came back from a concussion for THAT. I sure hope he didn't rush himself back too soon, because he might as well have not shown up at all.

The most infuriating thing about Cena/Orton Part 1,000,000 (aside from the fact that it was not only boring, but also trying for the Cena/Rock "video game infinite finishers" thing) was that this is the second time in three PPV's that Orton retained by having the babyface get distracted by a random heel's entrance, a finish we see on a weekly basis every Monday. This writing staff can't possibly be so creatively bankrupt that they can't come up with better finishes.

Also, Roman Reigns is going to be something special. That guy's got it!

But lotjx is right about one thing - the fanbase has to send Vince & Co. the message NOW by not ordering WM or the Network. Imagine this scenario: Buys now in droves, lots of cancellations at Summerslam JUST as they're putting the title on Bryan finally. You KNOW the conclusion they'd make off that. They'll have no choice but to confront the truth if WM and the Network launch don't match expectation. Whether or not that actually happens is a whole 'nother argument, but if the E is going to learn the right lesson, it's gotta happen now, not later.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Man, what a bummer of a Rumble.

Well, WWE stock is up, ratings are up, Batista has a movie coming out, so I guess the only weapon we have against poor storytelling is crowds relentlessly shitting on the product at live shows.

Cena can, and has, gotten away with going against the crowds for years, but that's only because he moves huge amounts of merchandise and there still is a vocal section of the crowd that supports him.

Batista? Not so much. Nothing against the guy, he has his fans, but he represents being an enemy of forward progress. I hope Elimination Chamber shakes things up at least a little.

I guess people are buying the network either way for various reasons so there's no reason for them to really care.

You're never getting another PPV. This is WWE ECW at the Hammerstein all over again.

WWE needs to get the mysterious people who turn into see John Cena and Batistia's return to actually attend their shows or talk about them on social media, because I keep getting told they exist but didn't see any of them on Twitter tonight.

This is what baffles me about The E's approach to social media. I don't doubt for a second that they cherry pick tweets and all that, but anyone that cares enough to actually click a trending topic or conduct a search on Twitter will be inundated with negativity, especially tonight. They can't be so myopic that they can't see it. And even if they willingly ignore it, they can't be so foolish as to encourage fans to jump on Twitter to seek it out.

After some back and forth, I decided to order the PPV. I didn't enjoy the wasted spots like JBL and El Torito (although his time was funny). I thought for a moment that Sheamus might go over.

I could never tell the Shield guys apart before (I'm a very casual viewer), but I was really impressed by Roman Reigns.

Kevin Nash surprisingly looked to be in good shape.

Batista and Randy Orton were both better looking with hair.

I love how they take it out on the city when this happens, as if that Rumble wouldn't have received the exact same reaction in Philly, Toronto, Montreal, and probably New York. They're going to run out of cities.

Speaking of the crowd, props for the "THIS IS AWFUL" and "WE WANT DIVAS" chants. There was another one during the title match that didn't quite pick up enough steam. I was curious what it was.

WWE NEWS: Mick Foley joins in Rumble anger - asks if WWE "hates their audience"

WWE Legend Mick Foley, who recently re-upped with WWE, is setting up for a WrestleMania storyline by joining anger over the Royal Rumble PPV outcome.

"Does WWE actually hate their own audience? I've never been so disgusted with a PPV," Foley tweeted.

A few minutes earlier, Foley tweeted: "Wait...@WWEDanielBryan isn't even IN the #RoyalRumble? That just kind of sucks."

Foley's tweets, along with Bryan's tweets encouraging the audience to continue supporting the "Yes! Movement," is setting up a Mania Season storyline of Daniel Bryan representing "the fans" against The Authority/"WWE management."

I can't help but think that that this company can't be that stupid to deny the majority of current WWE fans what they really want, and that this Authority v. Daniel bryan angle is a very storied long game ending with Bryan closing 'Mania as Champion.

When is the last time both the casual fans and the smart fans got this emotionally invested AND in agreement over the same wrestler and how he is treated in story and off-camera?

I feel like the naive inner-child and my cynical jaded adult mind are beating each other senseless right now.

Again, they need to strike while this iron is hot. They need to turn Batista NOW! He could parlay all of this into a killer heel turn!

It's a noble idea, but I don't think anyone who matters is going to take that seriously as a correlation to causation. The battle is going to continue to be waged by trying to upstage the TV presentations. It's going to be the new "throwing garbage on Nitro." Skip Wrestlemania? I truly cannot wait for Batista vs. Orton. I mean, this was just Pittsburgh.

I don't disagree, but I figure the Outlaws are going to drop the belts to the Usos pretty soon, just a heel team to facilitate the Rhodes break-up no one asked for. But should it have been the Real Americans? yeah for sure.

I'll watch it tomorrow and see if I can help. I remember "We Want A.J." coming right around "We Want Divas."

I thought "NO!" would've been bigger in both the protests but I think it only happened at the very end of the Rumble?

From my vantage point on the other side of the arena (under the graven image of THE WRESTLEMANIA SIGN), Batista was walking up the aisle after the show and shaking some hands. He got into it with one guy and then flipped him off. I do not know what the guy said but everybody went "OHHHH!" and also there was a little kid right in front of his hand.

"We want Angle" was in there somewhere. A few people tried "Ice cream bars." There were one or two I couldn't make out.

Batista did indeed do a short mock YES at the top of the ramp on his way out, after flipping that guy off for whatever reason. He may complete the "half-assed token babyface run" portion of his return in record time.

In answer to Foley's first question, "Yes, obviously."

I am not a Daniel Bryan fan, but I just can't comprehend how this company could take their most over guy and have him lose in the curtain jerker match and then not even allow him to be in a Royal Rumble featuring a midget and Kevin Nash. Even I'm starting to feel bad for the guy.

This Mania season storyline wouldn't work seeing as it's the same damn storyline they've been doing for almost a year now.

As usual Justin just goes back to being an optimist for no reason. Its not just Pittsburgh, we have seen fans just crap all over anything that isn't Bryan. Remember Seattle? That is not an East Coast Smark town. Remember the Survivor Series Buyrate even with Golden Boy Cena returning? This is nothing new except it now happened at the third biggest PPV of the year and the one that kicks off their big Mania push.

At this point, anyone who says things like silver linings or maybe I'll watch Raw to see if changes is kidding themselves. They are not going to change course. The course is set unless the day after Elimination Chamber when they look at the network buys and they see a number that will cause them to actually think, "Hey, maybe Mania is in trouble." That is all they care about.

Lets also be real about Batista, too. He is not a nice guy. He cheated on his wife with cancer with Melina. Melina who was already hooked up with Morrison. He also got his ass kicked by Booker T for being a diva about going to Smackdown. His first tweet back was telling smarks to suck his balls. Now, whether this was show or not, you don't mock the fans who paid money to see this shit PPV. He is not worthy of this push. Again, he is fifth alien to the right, he is not Rock where he is going to be a headliner for any film.

Even if they turn Batista, they will find a way to put Cena not Bryan in that match. People need to stop being the very definition of madness where you expect a different outcome when there is no sign this will happen. You can shout to your heart's content at the venue where you paid money for or you can sit on your hands and not order the network. Either way, the message needs to be sent.I assure you the library of old matches will be there or are on Youtube now. This the first time in a long time fans both online and in the live crowd, now is the time to strike by doing nothing.
