I was too ashamed to go with my original title, "Plain Borden to New York."

We've been knocking around the "this is the year!" Sting rumors since the summer, and the moment of truth is coming soon.

As noted for months, those in WWE have believed that Sting was going to be coming in when this TNA contract finished, but only Sting really knows where his head is at.

While a contract itself may not have been signed, and it is something that has been talked about for months, Sting in WWE is stronger than ever to the point concepts using the term "A Man Called Sting" are in discussion.

I would be fascinated to see what The Kevin Dunn Experience could do for an elaborate Sting entrance and presentation, but I wonder if he'd just be announced for the Hall of Fame.

Selfishly, I hope he's a Rumble WTF just so I can see it, but I think "oh my god it's finally actually Sting" is something that should probably stand alone as its own moment on TV. I don't think WWE will break up Taker/Lesnar and truthfully I'd be apprehensive about risking the other streak (the great matches) on 55-year-old Sting even an elaborately rehearsed and epically structured match. But Sting in WWE is something you want to see just to see it, and be like, well, how about that. What other surprise does this staid, mechanical life even have to offer before the black takes us all?

Now, if Hogan isn't allowed to wrestle, and WWE was at one point thinking about doing Cena and Hogan against the Wyatts, the team of John Cena, Sting, and Daniel Bryan (or Cena Prime, Proto-Cena, and Anti-Cena) against Husky Harris, Luke Harper, and Erick Rowan may actually top that as far as improbable pairs of teams.

I want Sting-Undertaker to happen, just for the sheer novelty of their combined age being 104. (Flair-Michaels was 101.)

Sting coming to the WWE should be a MOMENT. Not a moment, but a MOMENT. I don't car eif the matches will be awful. We'd always have that MOMENT.

Caveat: I have watched MAYBE ten minutes of TNA in my life, and none of those ten minutes included Sting. If he's the greatest 55-year old worker in the history of forever, hey, I'll be more open minded.

(Having said that...)

I really have no desire to see Sting. Because it's not 2002.

Is it back to Taker/Lesnar and not Batista/Lesnar?

Sting/Undertaker is still the most interesting non-UT/Cena match-up for WMXXX, but I can't help but think the (apparently abandoned) "Vince needs a hero to save WWE from his idiot daughter and doofus son-in-law" angle might have been interesting if the Ultimate Savior of WWE ended up being The One Man Never To Wrestle For Vince McMahon. As much shit as I talk about him and his Epic Match Addiction, HHH seems like a guy who wrestles matches with enough WWE Studios Acting and pauses that you could get Sting to go a while without blowing up.

Why not Cena vs. Sting, though? With Sting as the Ghost Of Cena Yet To Come, here to warn Cena about how someday he'll be all alone and need to transform into a dark version of himself to save his company and sell more merchandise.

Re: Sting's ability to work, there's no getting around that he's old, but he's always been game and against the right opponent in a meticulously-planned match (so Undertaker, Cena, HHH...maybe Punk on the outside?), he's still got enough signature spots and people will still sell for him being superhumanly strong and durable to make for a perfectly fine "big match". And then have Roman Reigns or somebody kill him the night after Wrestlemania.

Sting returning as a pivotal cog in The Authority storyline as a Raw Main Event Moment? Sign me up for that!

Sting is not coming. Get over it. I would love to see him especially if they have Flair back as well. I mean lets be honest here, they have no idea how to use the young talent in the main event scene might as well go with another war horse at least he can still go in the ring.

The Shield and Big E Langston (and Cody Rhodes) (and Daniel Bryan) (and the Wyatt Family) (and the Usos) don't really understand what you are talking about. I guess if you define "main event scene" as "challenging for the world title", then MAYBE. However, all of those guys are in the CLEAR (to borrow a phrase) B+ level of the show right now. (As opposed to - say - Damien Sandow, who seems to be the D-level guy on Raw for whatever reason.) WWE knows exactly what they are doing with them. And it is pretty great.

I understand having complaints about things, but "how the WWE is currently using its young talent" seems like it would be WAY down on the list. They make up a majority of TV EVERY week now.

You won't find a bigger Sting mark than me, but I really feel like the time for Sting was WrestleMania 27 in Atlanta with all those weird dark Undertaker log cabin promos that seemed similar to the Starrcade '97 promos with Hogan.

That said, of course I'd love to see Sting in WWE and how WWE presents him. Sting/HHH would be amazing if HHH could let himself lose to him for one night. Sting always works best against a powerful heel (ala Flair, Hogan) and HHH fits the bill well. Don't know how good that match would be, or care, as long as Sting won.

Sting/Undertaker doesn't quite have the appeal to me, because Undertaker matches work better when he's against someone who's really capable of beating him and it's hard to see Sting pulling that end of the match off (HHH, Lesnar, Punk were/are all believable threats for various reasons).

Oh man, that would be awesome. I'd also love to see Cena painted like early 90's Sting vs Black & White Real Sting. That's like my all time Dream Match, or Dream Tag Team.

Sting should also wrestle in cool ring attire like his Starrcade '97 one piece suit to hide his aging physique, which I assume he has because he wears T-shirts in TNA.

They routinely main-event Raw. WWE doesn't put people they're not grooming for big things in multiple Raw main events.

The Shield has had several marquee matches or ppv main events since their debut.
In the matches that were not in the main event slot, they were given main event time, meaning they stole the show.

The Wyatts are put in a position where Bray can easily transcend heel/face status and become the new Undertaker. Tweaking the same gimmick for the next 15 years.

The fact that most of the next generation is in factions actually helps those involved, as it makes the audience familiar with them without exposing them too much.

Anyways, back to Sting. I don't believe it until he's in the ring. And I do feel they need to handle this in such a way that they can play up his legacy without expecting him to burn down the house with his matches.
But seriously, they have Flair, they apparently have Hogan again. A promo/stare down between those three would look awesome right?

Yeah, obviously, WWE is doing now what they made fun of 20 years ago. BUT, in the name of nostalgia it's fine.

The problem I have with The Moment is the announcers desperately wanting to make it a moment while thousands of parents in the arena bend down to tell their kids who the new guy is. He can't just walk onstage or appear in the ring after all the lights are out. You gotta build him up for The Moment to mean anything. At least, you know, on a live show. On tape, they can overdub audience noise.

He's not a great talker, but the script writers could help with that. He's not a great worker, but the right opponent could help that (although Natalya has a better Sharpshooter). There's no way you put him against Taker at Mania 30. You have that match on another PPV so Sting has a chance to win.

His appearance can bolster the angle of Orton as the unlucky title holder in a pool of sharks. Batista comes back. Lesnar makes the challenge. Even possibly, Sting comes to the WWE to get the now unified titles. That sells the championship nicely.

Sting makes for a great lead-in for the Network library as I would be much more interested in seeing him in his pre-Crow glory against Vader and Muta and Flair (and his split-second feud with Iron Sheik).

I think The Moment will be the peak of the Sting run in the WWE. But if he can have a nice victory lap for his career, hell, I don't want to deny him that.

Sting is WCW...in that even if the onscreen storyline doesn't work as well as it should, WWE should be able to make money off it him just by interviewing him for hours and hours of video content for various documentaries and subjects. Sting does strike me as a guy who might not give the most interesting answers, but just having him included is enough to redo the various nWo/WCW DVDs (much less his own.)
