So was this a spoof of Seven or a TV show that I don't watch? No standard opener this week. The Ass Crack Bandit is putting quarters on people's asscrack when they bend over to pick up something they dropped. Jonathan Banks is still here this episode, but we had a return of Starburns and John Oliver as Professor Duncan.
In the end, we didn't find out who the ACB was, and they showed all the major characters that have motives for being the bandit.
This episode wasn't really that funny but I might have had my hopes set too high when my friend from the East Coast txt me that it was a really good episode.
This was meant as a parody of a genre, but I'd guess they were drawing most from the Killing - the rain and dark colors, the many suspects who presented as having obvious done and then ruled out, and the completely indecisive conclusion.
Starburns' re-resurrection is a blessing of the Dan Harmon era but IAN DUNCAN BEING BACK and settling in for a long run. (I think John Oliver is supposed to be spotting for Donald Glover similar to Hickey and Pierce, I don't know for sure.) But life and death are intertwined.
Real life intruding on the playtime of the gimmick ep was an emotional gut punch, like Jeff and Britta having sex in Modern Warfare but if Britta had died in childbirth instead.
Where can we download the Butt Folds Five song.

I thought it was Zodiac but people have said there are elements of David Fincher in general and lots of TV shows I've never seen such as Hannibal. It was almost comically dark (dark like colors and lighting). edit: why did I say almost? it was comically dark.

Yeah, I read it was supposed to be All Fincher Movies, hence Shirley's kids singing "Creep" over the intro a la The Social Network.
Shirley emerged from the same corridor (which was later mentioned to be a dead end) that the Ass Crack Bandit had run down. Though, it doesn't make much sense for her to crack, run, then turn around and break the Pierce news.
R.I.Pierce.
EDIT: Backwards Chang was the funniest thing he's done in a LONG time.
(edited by SchippeWreck on 10.1.14 1156) "It's magic! We don't need to explain it!"
The most awesome trope was the "detectives lose each other pursuing a suspect in a foggy nightclub where everyone else is raving."
Jim Rash is godlike. This episode alone would fill up a Dean Pelton memorable quotes page on IMDB. But, his snapping his fingers at the assistant to get the call traced, still LMAO.

His name is Alex, dude.
I couldn't tell, but it actually didn't look like he had starburns on...he was wearing a hat or cloak or something. I know the dude HATES getting into makeup, and was glad his character died.

Or similar to the way he was spotting for Jon Stewart all summer.
Originally posted by KJames199I also enjoyed the Ben Folds cameo and his Ass Crack Bandit song, but I'm biased.
I literally jumped up and yelled, "That's Ben Folds!". Kind of surprised they didn't save him to be an origami teacher.

You can clearly see his Starburns on the end credits informercial/kickstarter about the cats wagon thing.

Oliver left the Daily Show recently, J-Stew said it was because he has his own HBO show. But if he tapes that in LA maybe he could have some time to appear on Community.

I have some pretty high quality MP3s ripped from that episode if you need 'em... You can never listen to "Teach Me How To Understand Christmas" too many times...
