I rented Moulin Rouge & the Glass House, bought This Is Spinal Tap & Memento, and went to see the Royal Tenenbaums & A Beautiful Mind at the theatre where I work...

Moulin Rouge rocked...Ewan McGregor & Nicole Kidman can both actually act... The Glass House was okayish...too crazy a story...Leelee Sobieski was hot, though... This Is Spinal Tap was hilarious... Memento is just really cool (if you've seen the flick & liked it, you understand what I mean)... Royal Tenenbaums was funny as heck, and A Beautiful Mind showed that Russell Crowe is more than just Maximus...he's simply THE MAN (in acting...)

Peace!

The Moulin Rouge dvd is just the shiznit. Hearing Baz and Craig Pearce discuss the idea of Count Von Groovy is just the most warped plotline I've ever heard.

But otherwise, all things revolve around Lord of the Rings. It owns me, it should own you, and it has rights to own us all. 50 years from now, when someone says "The Trilogy", it will be the LOTR movies they are referencing.

I finally got my friends addicted to Kevin Smith's films (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma) and they just roll when they watch the animated Clerks on DVD. Now we are just waiting for Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back to come out on 23 Feb 02.

I'm not ashamed to say it, dammit...

I'm almost 19, and I had a blast watching Harry Potter

...

Also, Not Another Teen Movie? Don't see it... it gets old real fast, even though you laugh through all of it anyway...

I've seen a ton of movies lately...

Lord of the Rings - I personally loved it, thought it was pretty accurate, loved everything about, second best movie of the year.

A Beautiful Mind - Like someone else said Russel Crowe is the man, but Jennifer Connelly is awesome too.

Ocean's 11 - I went into this movie thinking that they just hired a bunch of famous people to make money and that it would have no story. But it was actually pretty good. I thought George Clooney and Brad Pitt were good even though I hate them both. I didn't think Julia Roberts was that great in this movie though. And Andy Garcia is good in any movie.

Movies that i've seen recently but aren't new...
Little Nicky - Wasn't really very interested when this movie came out, even though I'm an Adam Sandler fan. But I finally watched it and thought it was very funny. Which is impressive, cause those who know me know that i'm not impressed with most comedies. Jim Carrey has never made me laugh in a movie, neither has Austin Powers. However, Jim Carrey and Mike Myers are both very funny in interviews.

A Requiem For a Dream - Another great Jennifer Connelly movie, about drugs, kind of depressing though. It's the only Marlon Wayans movie EVER worth watching.

Man in the Moon - That's Man IN the Moon, not Man ON the Moon with Jim Carrey. This movie was Reese Witherspoon's first movie, she was only like 14 at the time. Pretty good movie.

Cruel Intentions - Good performances by Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, but Sarah Michelle Gellar was kind of blah. I didn't like this movie that much.

Someone Like You - I like both Hugh Jackman and Ashley Judd and they played their parts well, but the story wasn't very interesting to me.

America's Sweethearts - Same thing with this movie, John Cusack and Catherine Zeta Jones, and Billy Crystal played their parts well but the story was kind of stupid.

Just got Apocalypse Now Redux on DVD. Saw it in the theater, and it is awesome. I was too young too see the original in theaters, so I had only seen it on TV screens. On the Big Screen I was stunned and moved in a way I hadn't been since Full Metal Jacket the first time.

LOTR is the bomb. Jay and Silent Bob is pretty good but you have to see all their previous work to be in on all the inside jokes (kind of like Scary Movie. I saw it with my Brother and his wife and they didn't get it at all because they knew nothing about all the teen fare of late.)

Josie is a guilty pleasure. It's pretty hilarious once you get past the shallow plot (but isn't that the point of the movie?) and you can get it on tape at K-Mart for $7.00

With a babysitter for the two kids and dinner after the movie, a night out at the movies cost us about $100 so Big Screen Movies are few and far between. The last two we saw were Bandits (I'm a Bruce Willis mark) and Ocean's Eleven - my wife thought Julia Roberts looked fat - I did too - she didn't carry the weight as well as Rene Zellweger did

I just watched The Score with Robert De Niro, Edward Norton and Marlon Brando. I definitely recommend it if you're into a tale of high adventure.

Unlike most tales of high adventure, though, there really isn't as much violence as what moviegoers have become accustomed to. A lot of the tension that goes on during the movie is the fear of being caught. It's a wonderfully tense movie that starts off slow at first, but builds to an incredible climax.

The last movie I saw was Vanilla Sky. Some people hated it, I actually liked it alot. I like those weird movies or movies with a twist. The only thing I didn't like is that it took me about 2 hours to explain the ending to my date.

Gosford Park -- Very Good. Classic Altman (moving camera, overlapping dialogue). Great performances by Maggie Smith, Bob Balaban and Kelly Macdonald.

Royal Tanenbaums -- Super. Maybe the best film of 2001. Loads better than Rushmore (thanks to less screen time for Bill Murray). An Oscar for Gene Hackman. Even raccoon make-up can't make Gwyneth Paltrow ugly.

"The Royal Tenenbaums" was awesome and is also my favorite of 2001 (figures...it took 362 days into the year before I FINALLY see something worthy of "movie of the year"). I loved how we saw little bits of Paltrow's character's history, then got the visual version as they spilled it out with the private investigator's report. Talk about timing to a punchline...

"The Majestic" was much overlooked. I liked it, and it seems that you either really like it or really hate it. I haven't found anybody in the middle on that one.

Matinees are my Saturday morning/early afternoon thing. "A Beautiful Mind" last week was great. This week it's looking like "Fat Girl", thanks to somebody rehabing an old four-plex into an indie-house/cafe.

If "The Man who Wasn't There" is playing near you, it is WELL worth a matinee ticket.

I don't get a chance to see many movies at all, however...

I really liked Bandits. The plot is a LITTLE weak at times, but it's unbelievably fun, and you can't go wrong with Willis and Billy Bob.

Apocolypse Now Redux is worth skipping over. If you're gonna watch this movie, watch the original. The Redux adds pointless scenes.

Movies recently rented...

Memento was a very cool movie.

Requiem for a Dream was also excellent, though not a happy movie.

Midnight Cowboy is a really good story, was rated X when it first came out...back when the X didn't mean what it means today.

Pi was good but a little to artsy for me.

JFK a really good story.

I just saw 2 less recent movies that surprised me...I stumbled into Cast Away, and was amazed how hooked into it I got. I almost cried when he lost Wilson. And I saw 13 Days, which was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, which for me is quite a compliment to a film.

Man, I can't disagree more. Brando was worse than your average teen starlet in her first acting gig. The plot was as see through as clingwrap. Ed Norton was pretty good, but the characters were just flimsy as hell and you could see the ending coming for miles.

I thought Ocean's 11 was a fantastic movie. The caper was just fantastic. I love it when a plan comes together.

I seen Orange County yesterday. It was OK, worth the $5.75 matinee movie price. But this thread makes me want to go to the movies again and see the Royal Tenenbaums. For $5.75, of course.

Oh, I just remembered: I saw Lord of the Rings a few weeks ago. What a freaking awesome movie. The swerves are swerves, the action is jam-packed, the acting is very good, and the violence is excellent. You HAVE to see this one 4-5 rows from the screen.

This is a very odd question, but I'm hoping somebody has run into this problem. Last night, I was at a party, and somebody stole our beer tap. We had a whole keg of beer left, and, naturally, it had to be open.
