Not Viacom and outside the wrestling business means not Bischoff or Jarrett. Pretty easy to take whoever is behind Door #1 over the Carters - at worst, it's a new bad instead of usual bad.

What kind of moron wants to buy into pro wrestling if it isn't simply to provide content for their broadcast entity?

The same moron who made the AOL/Time Warner deal which crushed a lot of original programming on TNT and TBS. They just did not want Nirto even though now they would murder their pets and possibly certain family members to get their average ratings.

Given the costs associated with getting the 2.0 that Nitro was getting at the end, I don't think anyone would be looking to sacrifice more than small rodents for those numbers. Especially in a tv universe where cable shows can draw much larger ratings AND much higher ad rates than the poor bastard child of tv that is pro wrestling.

I think you will be surprised on what people will put up with for a 2.0 rating in 2013 on cable TV.

Well, TNA wouldn't come with the legacy costs of guaranteed multi-million dollar contracts signed by Bischoff using Turner's money. Just off the top of my head:

Hogan
Hart
Nash
Hall
Flair
Sting
Luger
Savage
Steiners

At the end, the promotion was basically being carried on the backs of Booker T and DDP, with most of those other guys kicking back at home letting the checks roll in.

The real costs of running Nitro at the end weren't nearly as high. Couldn't have been... (scans CRZ's last few Nitros) They were featuring Evan Karagias, Disco Inferno and Not Hurricane Helms.

I'm sure they feel the TNA tape library might be worth $1 million or so for the Sting and Kurt Angle DVDs alone.

FWIW, wikipedia says WCW's tape library cost WWE $1.7 million. Everyone thought that was a steal at the time (and it seems like they've made that money back many times over on DVDs), but it suggests TNA's library may not be worth even a million.

(Though if it gets low enough, I wonder if they'll be other buyers - the Smart Mark Videos of the world might also be able to turn a profit on it at some point.)

Really, was just going for a round number... and thought the WCW sale was $2.5 for some reason. I'd love to know the Carters' investment/loss in TNA. If it comes to selling for half a million or so, the McMahons will probably laugh that off just to be able to go on the air and bury Jarrett, again.

I'm surprised there isn't more wrestling on cable. It can be done cheaply and will always pull in somebody. Although it might just be easier and cheaper to put together bad reality shows.

I would rather just see TNA go away. The brand doesn't have much credibility. It would be better to just start all over. Can you imagine people getting amped for a TNA reunion show five to ten years from now? Me neither.

I heard/read that Mark Cuban was a wrestling fan once upon a time - or maybe I imagined it.

I've always respected Cuban, feel like he has energy and a desire to win/make money. I'd love to see someone like him buy a company, get a good TV deal, and hire good people. I don't think he'd try to take down Vince, but I think he'd be content with a quality product that gave him "x%" ROE (which could only occur if it were quality and well run) - and fans would benefit in the long-run.

OR - some crazy NFL/NBA player signs a huge contract and buys it cheap for the car-wreck value.

I wonder if a new venture would do well to move away from Irish whips and tests of strengths and move closer to a scripted MMA show.

Cuban is (or at least was) a big wrestling fan. Part of the reason ROH liked having TV on Cuban's HDNet was the hope that Cuban might get interested in it and buy the company. Never happened for them.

If TNA does fold, I'd like at the very least for WWE to buy their tape library and maybe bring in a few of their wrestlers.

(I don't particularly hold up hope that AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Austin Aries and Samoa Joe would be booked well, though. I remember the inVasion.)

And I'd love to see Sting in WWE on the same part-time basis as The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar and The Rock have been, even though he's old.

How about a crazy rock star instead?  Billy Corgan is said to be interested in the company.

I still think Sting will make it to a WrestleMania; there's far too much attraction for them to pass that up.

I think Samoa Joe would fit in well with the WWE but, let's face it, AJ and Christopher have no personality and Aries is just an indie version of CM Punk (and why bring in a fake version of something when you already have the real version?).

The WWE always lacks faces to fight all the factions, so seeing Angle and Hardy back would make me happy.

But if Bully Ray isn't the most perfect Paul Heyman guy I don't know who is. As long as the WWE doesn't try to put him in his place when he redebuts, you are probably looking at the biggest instant addition to the roster in years.

If we're really considering WWE bringing over TNA talent, I don't see why they wouldn't bring over Angle and Hardy. Angle can play the role Jericho has been playing - a part-time legend who can still bring it. Hardy I'm less certain about, but he does sell a bunch of merchandise, so I think the WWE would pull for him. Maybe push him into the tag division and have him "mentor" a young lion on their way to a tag-title run. Sting is a no-brainer, if only for that one match against Taker at WM and the career DVD. Obviously, I don't know about backstage machinations and egos, but this would make a lot of sense business-wise, I think.

Of the others, I'm not sure where AJ or Chris Daniels would fit in. Those guys (especially if they're financially stable) might just be better off going into the indies. As much as I like Austin Aries, wannaberockstar is right in saying that he does come off as CM Punk-lite. I would suggest some combination of Joe, Magnus, and Robert Roode as a tag-team force. And BigDaddyLoco is right, Bully Ray is a Paul Heyman guy through and through. A Paul Heyman guy who can talk, even!

I'm fairly sure they'd be 10 times more likely to bring back Hardy than they would Angle at this point. Angle is a guy they let go (knowing full well TNA could pick him up, back when TNA was actually viable) because they were worried about his health. That was 7 years ago and the guy's just out of a stint in rehab. I doubt they'd touch Angle even if he was a free agent. The WWE schedule (even a Jericho type run for a few months) would likely kill him.

Realistically, there's not more than a handful of guys the WWE would even be interested in. Other than Sting, the old-timers aren't really marquis guys, and are at a point in their careers where they're not any kind of full-time asset. I could see Hardy doing a short run ala RVD, but that's about it. Angle's a mess and Bully Ray was never seen by the WWE as anything more than a tag guy.

As for the younger talent, most of them simply aren't the kind of guys the WWE would want. Maybe Storm, Styles, Joe, Magnus. Maybe. And it's stretching to call half of them younger talent, at that.

Joe = agree

AJ = mostly agree

Aries = mostly agree, though there's a spot for him as a Heyman guy in a "I've got a BETTER CM Punk!" role

Daniels = disagree, since Daniels has been killing it in his appletini-sipping douchebag role for over a year now. You can argue that he's too old for WWE to pick up since they'd inevitably make him do a year in NXT anyway, but Dan "The Bad Influence" Christopher would be a great heel addition to the WWE roster.

Why do they keep cramming NXT Specials and PPVs into the same week? It's a lot for person to squeeze into one week. The Big Show might be the most compelling character on Raw right now.
