Jiminy Christmas, this show actually had YET ANOTHER contract signing? I'm so sick of contract signing and verbal debates and "confrontations" as main events. How many times have they used that crutch this year?

Anyway, Bryan and Orton had a contract signing with Triple H, Stephanie, and Shawn Michaels all attending. Orton vowed to take Bryan to hell with his standard heel promo. Bryan delivers the same promo he's delivered for the past two months, while making sure to offhandedly challenge Triple H. Hunter responds that Bryan reminds him of Chris Jericho, Edge, and Rob Van Dam as someone with a lot of talent that just couldn't hack it as the main guy. Why was that line even necessary? Hunter says he'll only come out and wrestle against big stars. I have a feeling we'll be referencing that line again in the future. Shawn Michaels gets in Hunter's face about his vendetta against Bryan, as I start to wonder exactly what the main event of the PPV's supposed to be again. All of this is interrupted by "Stone Cold" The Big Show driving a semi tractor in and then proceeding to...HONK THE HORN! That fiend! Everyone's so distracted that Bryan nails Orton with the running knee and runs off to celebrate with Show. That's 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back. And somehow, it was still better than anything the NFL had to offer tonight.

Something that wasn't a waste of time was the opener between Bryan and Dean Ambrose, which was a great match. Bryan won clean by reversing into the Yes Lock. Good stuff from these two!

Apparently, Big E Langston turned face on Friday and is now siding with CM Punk. Vickie Guerrero played the role of Teddy Long (Hey, where IS Teddy these days?) and made a tag TEAM match, playa! Langston dispatched Axel with the Big Ending and got himself a title match on the pre-show in the process. If they're serious about Langston as a babyface, that can only lead to good things.

Dolph Ziggler faced Randy Orton and...sigh...why even bother with this match? We've seen it a hundred times. You already know exactly how it ends. Why even go to the trouble anymore? (On the other end of the spectrum, if they AREN'T serious about Langston as a babyface, there are worse ideas than reuniting him with Dolph.)

The Usos and The Shield faced off for a tag title shot, which ended without a finish. Of course, this leads to a Triple Threat match at the PPV. Positive: The Rhodes Boys now come out to a sweet mash-up of their two themes.

Did you know John Cena's coming back? Huzzah.

This was obvious filler, as we're just killing time to the latest PPV. Next week's Raw, though, promises to be very interesting, as we could continue going down bold new directions or we're going to go right back to the Same Old Shit with John Cena leading the way. We shall see.

No, not so sweet a mashup.

Three hours of not too many matches, almost entirely matches we've seen before (one of which was last Friday, for crying out loud), endless vignettes and special video looks and one epic promo by Paul Heyman.

Oh but I liked seeing the TWA footage, even if they probably could have edited out that Danielson was 19 in 2000. Maybe they don't care revealing his age. (Or maybe 32 is "young" in WWE in 2013...hell, compared to some of these guys...)

At least with Langston's turn we will get some "fresh" matchups - hope he doesn't suck!

I loved Cole/King bitching about how unfair it was for the Usos to have to fight for a title shot when they never got one from the last time they won- which is a fair point but The Shield are the former champs who deserve a rematch and JBL didn't retort that until much later in the match. Of course Cole didn't seem upset when Rhodes Scholars had to do the same thing a year ago.

Was HHH talking about Rock n' Roll Hall of Famer Edge or WWE Hall of Famer Edge? Seriously though, it's funny to hear bitch about D-Bry never being "the man" when at the similar point in his career being new to the top tier he was at best 3rd fiddle behind Austin/Rock and probably behind Taker too. Would've been nice to hear a face challenge him on that like HBK did to the "HHH vs YES=NO!" comments.

Sucks for Canadia that The Score...oops I mean Sportsnet 360 is still having the sound regularly drop out, it's been happening since at least NXT on Friday (at least it has for me).

I thought pretty much the same thing.

When Show came charging into the building with that semi, all I could think was "Oh man, what's he gonna do with that? What's he gonna hit or crush?"

And then Big Show gets out of the truck.....and......waves his hands.

It seems like Orton's gone as far as he can in this feud. We might not be ready to move directly to Bryan vs. HHH yet, but I think Hunter needs a new proxy. All I can think about is how many times Bryan's actually beaten Orton, and how it's gotten a bit tiresome watching Bryan kick his ass at this point. It's too bad we've moved away from the idea of turning Miz, because he would have been a really good choice. I'm not sure who else is usable at this point.

Why do I have a feeling that there are going to be people that will owe Lotx an apology on his superkick prediction.

Given the WWE rule of falling up, I think Ziggler's the guy to replace Orton.

When is Sheamus ready to come back? He was one of the first "HHH boys" wasn't he? Would make for an interesting dynamic between a HHH boy and an HBK guy.

If AJ has to lose the Divas Title to a Total Diva, at least it's Brie. She's stepped it up in her new babyface #BRIEMODE, flying around the ring and playing to the crowd. Plus You Can't Roll Up Brie! She's impervious to schoolboy attempts.

By saying "you weren't either" doesn't that imply that Jericho agrees with HHH to start with that he wasn't an A player?

Neither were Austin, Rock, Hogan or Cena. Both probably fit in with Savage or Foley which isn't a bad spot if Bryan can get there great for him.

Chris Jericho was probably an A-player when he was the Undisputed Champion in 2001-02 and later when he was the Angry Man in 2010. At least on those occasions he feuded with bona-fide A-players.

I think Moss is right in saying that Triple H at the same point in his career was also a B-player. Upper midcard but not at the level of the so-called "real" stars.

Also, wasn't Hunter way off his timeline by suggesting that the company would be in the hands of Ted Turner had it turned to Jericho/Edge/RVD as the focal point, since WCW as an independent company had more or less ceased to exist by the end of 2000/early 2001?

When was HHH really "the man" though? In the fans eyes, not WWE's which is basically HHH's. He wasn't as long as Austin & Rock were still around, then Brock rose up...so for a bit before Cena became the top guy?

HHH has been around the top for a long time, but I don't think he was at the very top for that long of a period.

Why are we arguing the semantics of booking position, when HHH's intent was clearly not to make a literal statement, but rather to draw heat by running down some beloved former superstars who are no longer around the company to argue with him?

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago many of us were commenting on how well Triple H was doing in purposefully trolling the Internet smarks?

Last night, he trolled the Internet smarks.

And the Internet said GASP!!!

why is WWE in denial of linear time. they always round up an extra month for no reason when talking about how long ago things happened, and in Shawn Michaels' case they said Randy Orton cost him a year of his career when it wasn't even half a year. if the whole point of Cena's return wasn't how quick it was, they'd be saying he's been gone since Wrestlemania.

Dolph finding himself in the exact spot he first broke out with in AUGUST 2011 -- a great TV match losing to Randy Orton -- is depressing, but indeed, let me belabor the Ziggler thing and propose this alternate history:

1) Dolph Ziggler retains the World Title over Alberto Del Rio at Payback with Big E and AJ's help.

2) Dolph Ziggler retains the World Title over Alberto Del Rio at Money in the Bank with Big E and AJ's help.

3) Dolph Ziggler retains the World Title over Christian at SummerSlam; Alberto Del Rio and Kaitlyn beat Big E and AJ.

4) Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio is booked for Night of Champions. Ziggler gets kicked in the head and has a recurrence of concussion symptoms before the PPV. Triple H guilt trips Ziggler into working even though doctors say he could wait a week to be safe. Del Rio targets the head. Dr. Sampson tries to stop the match because of the concussion but Triple H says it can go on. Del Rio wins the title and beats up Ricardo when he tries to get him to stop. Triple H is happy that Del Rio is champion again because having a marketable Latino star is BFB. Ziggler, Big E, and AJ all turn babyface to go against Del Rio, "The Authority," and the corporate interests of diva reality shows. AJ, having been shown up by Stephanie multiple times, is programmed with handpicked WWE model Kaitlyn, Total Divas blowhard Natalya, and Stephanie's intermediary Tamina. Ziggler is a good and successful wrestler on TV.

FIN.

Nah. I guess he could do it accidentally and recreate SummerSlam 1997, but Shawn Michaels isn't turning heel.
