These days, I'm a bigger fan of the independent promotions in my area than the mainstream products. The St. Louis area has a few solid groups and one could go to an indy show practically every weekend.

The cool thing is the variety of products. Like Ring Of Honor-style action? St. Louis Anarchy. Like a more old-school feel? SICW. A broader mix of styles? Dynamo Pro. There are a handful of other groups in the area as well with their own perks.

Anyone else on here follow their local indy feds?

I don't think it's local to me, necessarily, but I recently started watching the show of a regional Southern promotion called TCW. I usually catch it late on Saturday nights. It's definitely trying for an old NWA/Memphis style vibe. Matt Hardy just came in to do some spots on their TV show, mentoring some guy doing the Midnight Rider thing under a mask as "Americos". And there's some weird shit going on there, with a wrestling wizard and a group of Satanists being managed by a 1920's gangster. I kind of roll my eyes when they occasionally declare themselves "the best wrestling in the world" or snark at WWE, but it's fun to watch anyway.

Currently I'm in a hotbed of independent wrestling within the Ohio Valley & Kanawha Valley here in West Virginia. I know of three organizations running on October 12. Remix Pro Wrestling, Covey Pro Wrestling, & UWA Wrestling. UWA is the, at a county fair, one featuring WCW wrestler Bobby Blaze... hey this a chance for @CRZ to do that amazon plug thing...

Pin Me, Pay Me! I have boots & will travel. (The W at Amazon)

If you're a REALLY a huge indy fan I suggest getting involved in this little KickStarter project by NWA Smokey Mountain aka Tony Givens.

For about the past five years I've been doing this as a runner, referee, timekeeper, announcer, music organizer, & on the off chance someone has battle royal this guy Trip N. Outt will show up from time to time.

I don't really go out to live shows, so unless the promotion has some kind of television product, I usually don't know anything about it. There's not much of anything where I live (although, if I did go to live shows, there seems to be an abundance of incredibly shitty-looking backyard feds), but whenever I'm visiting my parents in Cleveland, I always try to catch some of Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling's programming. I'm never really sure when it's on or what channel it's on, but they have a television program that's shockingly well put together. As far as the performers, the "regular" wrestlers range from sorta okay to actually pretty terrible, but they do get the occasional minor star passing through.

I was just starting to get into Chikara over the past year when they "ended," but I'm looking forward to my first Wresting Is... show next month. All the different Wresting Is companies are basically a good chunk of the Chikara roster, scattered mostly up and down the northeast, doing shows in New England and around NJ as well.

I've caught a bit of this promotion on TV in Baton Rouge. Comes on Friday nights here. Its... something. Their arena is shot like old Jim Crockett TV, but they insist on the modern style of backstage WWE/TNA office cut-ins, at least last night.

Lots of smaller guys, but they do have a 7'+ guy named Titan that isn't too horrible.

I've been to a handful of Indy shows over the past year of varying quality. Shimmer's quite a drive for me, but it's the only one where I consistantly have felt that I got my money's worth every time I make it out to a show.

I've lived in Regina for almost 10 years and never been to the local indy here. But hey, there's always this month's special appearance by Gene Snitsky! He's on his "It's Not My Fault" tour.

I'm definitely more into Indy wrestling than WWE/TNA & go to shows as much as I can, usually 1-3 per month. We have 1 local, Vendetta Pro ( vendettaprowrestling.com ), but all the others are about a 2-6 hour drive away so it's difficult to get to most shows, but I go when I can. I was just at Hoodslam in Oakland, which is not a "traditional" show but all kinds of fun ( check out their stuff at birdswillfall.com ) Other shows I try to get to on a semi-regular basis are All Pro Wrestling ( as seen in "Beyond the Mat" ) Alternative Wrestling Show ( I was just at their show last weekend which featured Katarina (Winter) as well as LuFisto vs Christina Von Eerie ), CWFHollywood, Apex Pro Wrestling and Big Time Wrestling. There are actually around 2 dozen in California that I try to follow and most of them have many of the same people working them so I know a lot of the wrestlers from all around.
As far as other Indies, I'm really into Shimmer, Shine, NCW-FF, ROH & DGUSA. I also follow all kinds of other ones to a somewhat lesser extent.
I still watch WWE & TNA on tv and stream the ppvs, but really it's NXT as far as "mainstream" product that interests me the most, as they focus more on actual wrestling & have the former indy talents I've been following all along ( including a few people I actually know ).

Had a doubleheader weekend with St. Louis Anarchy on Friday and Dynamo Pro Wrestling on Saturday. The two groups have distinctly different products(only three guys wrestled on both shows) but both do a good job of catering to their particular audiences.

Saw A.C.H. at St. Louis Anarchy before he became a regular with ROH...big fan of that guy.

Next few shows in my neck of the woods have special guest appearances: Honky Tonk Man next week, Duggan the week after that. Good times.

I've been to a handful of shows from Boston-area promotions Chaotic Wrestling and Millennium Wrestling Federation.

I've since decided that I'm not a big enough fan of pro wrestling as a sport to enjoy indie shows. The gloss of WWE really makes a big difference to me, plus I mostly follow just to see how story-lines and characters develop, not really to watch matches. I can totally see how big work-rate fans would love the indies, but they are just not for me.

Was fortunate to see Evan Bourne, Delirious, MsChif, and Daizee Haze around these parts when they first started out...yes, I'm a name-dropper. Still a lot of potential in this area...Brandon Espinosa wrestles around here and he's become a regular with OVW.

Interesting P.O.V. SAMO, I can see what you're saying but the same reasons you like to watch wwe are the reasons I don't care that much for their product as an entire entity. I like to watch actual wrestling & storylines to me are just ancillary. I like when someone is an effective character but I care more about them having "depth of character" in their ring work.
One of the things I love most about Indy wrestling is being right there in the midst of the action. I mean LuFisto was literally right in my lap as Christina was beating the shit out of her, whereas when you go to a big arena show it's like watching action figures in a toy ring they're so far away. Also at Indy shows the wrestlers are much more interactive with fans and alot of times there are some killer parties after the shows. And like PowerPB13 says, you get to know some people before they become "big names".
Now as far as "production value" I do appreciate when promotions actually put effort into creating a set but most of all if I'm going to spend real money the video quality of their media product has to be there. PWG has good cards ( though I do believe they get "over-rated" by some fans ) but their dvd's look like crap, while Chikara, Shimmer & Shine dvd's look crisp and sharp making them actually compelling to watch.
By the way for those interested in what shows are going on here's a link with a fairly comprehensive list of things.

It's not a local indy, but I tried watching the FWE iPPV this weekend because I was bored and for $10, hey, why not?

First, they missed showing a match. Then the stream was super choppy. Then they fixed the video, but the sound was terrible. This wasn't the worst thing because the announcers were Maryse and some really dorky guy (be sexy). Then the stream went out entirely and I missed another match. Then it came back up for a while. Then it went out again and I missed a third match. Then I gave up on it.

Results:
- Jeff Jarrett def Jason Gotti after a guitar shot (missed this; the stream started with Gotti laid out in the ring)
- Petey Williams def Sonjay Dutt with the Canadian Destroyer
- Ivelisse Velez def Rosita and Kasey Ray when she caught them both in submissions
- Tommy Dreamer def Carlito in a No DQ match with the Spicoli Driver (missed this too)
- Chris Masters def Wes Draven with the Masterlock for the submission
- Brian Kendrick def Joey Ryan with sliced bread #2 (missed this also)
- EJ Risk & VSK def The Young Bucks and Bandido Jr. & Trent Baretta to retain the FWE tag titles when The Bucks pinned Bandido to eliminate them and while they celebrated the champions rolled them up
- Rhett Titus def Jorge Santi after he rolled him up and hooked the tights (quit watching somewhere in here - I took these results from the Observer site and I thought Santi beat Titus, but on the other hand, who cares)
- Tony Nese def FWE Tri-Borough champion Paul London with a 450 splash
- Angelina Love def Serena Deeb & Cheerleader Melissa
- Ted DiBiase Jr. def Colt Cabana with Dream Street
- John Morrison def Matt Morgan via springboard kick to the head, then hit a split-legged twisting moonsault to retain the FWE title

I'll be there too, but this time's roster isn't very inspiring. It's all due to injuries and real life, but once you get past the top of the card they're down quite a few good wrestlers.

They are down some due to injury, but they still have a top card of 10-12 people who should be able to carry each volume pretty well. The absences of Athena, Rush, McKay and Deeb from this taping will be noticeable, but hopefully someone new will step up the way those names did over the last year or so.

Ayako Hamada, Cheerleader Melissa, Mercedes Martinez, Madison Eagles, Kana, Jessica Havok, Hiroyo Matsumoto, Nicole Matthews, Hikaru Shida, Nikki Storm, and hopefully the never-announced but always there LuFisto should be plenty to keep things going. The roster isn't quite as strong up top as it has been in the past, but it is pretty deep, and even the early card matches should be mostly decent, with no one really clogging up the bottom.

I'm just bracing myself now for the nightmares that are the intermissions each day.

Also, you didn't wear a top hat to the spring tapings did you?

Nah, that's a different Minnesota denizen. I was up front in my CM Punk and Colt Cabana shirts. The guy I was sitting with was the one with the whiteboard signs if that helps. This year I'm probably bringing the Cabana shirt and a vintage Jericho one.

Saraya Knight spit gum on me and Hamada landed in my lap during the fourway.

You're right about the women they do have coming in, I like almost all of them, but it's still feels a bit lacking with the ones you mentioned plus entertaining midcard acts like Shazza and Rhia out of the mix. Possibly for good with Shazza.

This might be the last weekend for Matthews and Veda though, so I wouldn't miss it.

Somebody earlier on the board had a suggestion of turning Team Angle into Team Cena, which would rule all. They've already got the hooded sweatshirts, so they already kind of dress like Eminem.
