WWE star Darren Young gave a TMZ cameraman the shock of his life.
During a standard interview at Los Angeles Airport LAX, the cameraman began quizzing Young about his opinions about gay wrestlers, asking if “a gay wrestler could be successful within the WWE.”
Young caught the cameraman off guard by taking the opportunity to reveal that he is gay.
"Absolutely. Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy."
The floored cameraman stumbled over his words briefly and thanked Young for sharing the news.
The star was then asked how he thought his fellow wrestlers would take the news.
“We’re all adults. All sports are physical. When I come to work, I come to work,” he said. “Business is business.”
He added: “Some people might not like it, and some people will like it.”
But the wrestler said regardless he is comfortable in his own skin.
“I’m happy [with] who I am. I’m comfortable with myself,” he said. “I’m hoping to be able to make a difference. It’s very important to me that people understand that someone’s sexual preference doesn’t really matter.”
He truly is the Bizarro Cena! But in all seriousness congrats to him for being able to be open about in in his own way and not be forced into it or "outed" if he didn't want to be. Hopefully it will have no negative affect on him or the futures (such as they are) for the Prime Time Players as I enjoy their work.
"You are going to get a certain amount of snarkiness on the Internet no matter what, and my rule is that you don't post anything that you wouldn't say to someone's face." Marc Andreyko (Writer of DC Comic's "Manhunter")
The weird part here is TMZ sending a camera guy to a LA airport and that camera guy deciding that, of all the possible recognizable faces in the airport, he needed to interview Darren Young. And it worked out better than he could've imagined! He should've gone and bought a lottery ticket next.
Good for Darren Young. If something negative happens to his career in the company as a result of this, he can sue WWE for MILLIONS OF DOLLARS! MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!

"Oh wonderful. I know Darren personally. Darren's a great guy. That's a very bold move for him. And congratulations for him for actually finally doing it."
..........finally doing it. Your hazardous guess was right.
Good for him for going public with his sexuality, especially in such a comfortable, nonchalant way. More openly LBGT celebrities outside of just the music and acting industries is a good thing for kids and society in general.
One wonders how Darren Young will be received in the more conservative towns, however most of those places don't seem to be full of fans who follow internet news anyway.
I forget, is Darren Young a heel or a face? Will this now affect that for himself and the PTP?
You mean how all of this will be moot as soon as he's handed a gimmick based off of this rather than allowing it to be a non-issue and the Prime Time Players (complete with a returning Uncle Rufus "Pancake" Patterson) continue to function as they had before?
"Laugh and the world laughs with you. Frown and the world laughs at you." -Me.
Well, the PrimeTime Players are heels, I think. I only know this because they usually job to faces. If Young and PTP by proxy can get a push out of this (as a reward of sorts for the good press), I'll be very happy. Especially if it happens without going down the route that Lexus is afraid of.
I love me some tag team wrestling, so anything that has a possibility of promoting that is a plus.
The thing about PTP is they're goofy enough & aren't on TV acting really evil heelish you could use this to turn them face without it being out of left field. Playing armchair bookerman I'm not sure what I would do if running creative. You could do the above, keep them heel to show being gay doesn't mean anything or have Titus play a homophobe to tell a great story. I think any of those are totally valid ways to play it.
In my opinion the best thing anyone could do with this is have Young stand backstage, talking to someone and they go "hey, anything special happen the past week?""nope""ok, cool" and leave it at that.
If you want to look cool you treat it as no big deal. Which it isn't imo.
