So the show wasn't bad. I'm eating up the Cody Rhodes/Damien Sandow stuff moreso than the Dolph/Big E/AJ stuff.

Lack of Punk means a lack of thread, I guess.

If Daniel Bryan doesn't win at SummerSlam I think a great many people will turn out to be very disappointed.

Ryback should use the tuna slap more often. If I were that guy, I would've asked why he was in a singlet so early when he didn't have a match for another 2 1/2 hours; what if he had to go?

I still am intrigued by the Wyatts, but how many times do we hear the story of 'Kane isn't the monster he used to be'?

The Main Event told an good story, with Ryback as the Anti-Cena who's just not as savvy. Otherwise it was a bunch of table spots.

Why is a wrestler in gear when he doesn't have to wrestle? Heck, I think Hogan is been in yellow shorts and yellow boot continuously (except for the full NWO turn time) since 1984. I saw him on the street in Tampa, 4-5 years ago. He had wrestling boots on. I am guessing, under the jeans - Yellow shorts:

I suppose it really stood out for me because of the times we've seen Ryback not in his gear. I mean, I think I can count the amount of times Kane has been seen outside of his gear on one hand (excluding prior gimmicks and personal photos outside of the WWE Universe), but that's a very different gimmick going on.

Maybe it's a keystone, especially for Hogan in public, or he just doesn't feel comfortable in anything but wrestling boots.

They weren't messing around with the piped in crowd noise. It drives me crazy, but I'm sure they aren't a fan of a lot of live crowds, and maybe that's the point.

I saw very little of the show this week, but I noticed this during Kaitlyn's introduction.

Bryan and Vince did a great job, including the brief tippy-toe contest. This was a vast improvement over his pre-MITB promo, and Vince cemented Bryan's status as a main-event face.

Anyone have any insight into how they did the "what's trending on Twitter" stuff and the live tweets? Were Cole and King commenting live other than the parts where they were shown on camera and thus pretaped? Otherwise, how would they know that "Vince McMahon" is trending at that moment when the show was taped?

Christian and Del Rio had probably the match of the night for me. It continues the excellent form Del Rio is in, he's now reeled off four consecutive matches in the ***+ range.

Fandango takes another countout loss. I'm pretty sure this is the best way of making him irrelevant in a very short time. He's got to win something against someone of consequence pretty soon, or it might be curtains for him.

The brief AJ/Big E segment prior to AJ's match was a lot of fun. "Every time she spears me, a baby cries!" Yet poor AJ had to eat another Spear while Big E just watched from ringside. The ensuing Dolph/Big E match made me want to see more of those two, though Dolph did come off like a bit of a douche in the end, coming back to hit that Zig Zag when poor E was distraught over losing by DQ. That was a heel move.

Ouch for the extra who went through the buffet table via The Bully Ryback. He definitely shattered some glass on his way down. Dude took that bump LIKE A MAN!

Kane did a cool thing when the Wyatts attacked, avoiding both Mask Guy Wyatt and Bald Spot Wyatt and making a beeline for Bray. It didn't work for him, but he's laid out a template for any Wyatt victim with half a brain - don't just stand there and wait for them to come out! Get to that chair that Bray likes to sit on before he does, and brain him with it. The other two are henchmen, and any babyface worth his salt should be able to take care of them blindfolded, especially a babyface with a gigantic wooden chair. Problem solved.

Line of the night from Damien Sandow to Cody Rhodes: "I traveled the world, I educated the unwashed masses all around the globe; you grew a mustache!"

I just spent the past 30 minutes trying to find what was trending last night, and just how much it was trending. No such luck, if someone is far more savvy at Twitter please have a look to debunk my theory...

They didn't make it up, per se, but definitely set the trend themselves by having everybody in the company tweet those specific things at those times; If WWE employs 1,000 people and all of them tweet or retweet on a subject, wouldn't it trend?

I'm pretty sure there was a lot of overdubbed "live" commentary. The seams were hardly audible, but they were there. The most obvious one was when Cole did a blah blah blah leading to an "I wonder what you think about..." and then they cut to Lawler for his pre-taped stuff. Cole on the pre-taped definitely sounded different from Cole "live" - you'll never completely faithfully replicate in the sound booth what goes into the headset out on the road.

The most obvious example of the "live" commentary was during one of the longer matches where Lawler unwittingly talked into and past the commercial break, but it was pretty funny when he picked it right back up coming OUT of break with "Now, before I was so rudely interrupted..."

(Something about JBL and mountains here as well)

Also, it's way too much work to try to game the trends and have employee tweets a week in advance so the commentary team can read them verbatim to you as they scroll by - which was one of those tricks they do to try to keep you from noticing it WAS taped, by the way - not to mention the non-employee tweets they picked for the scroll. I mean they COULD have planned ALL of them in advance and timed them to get posted just in time for a taped scroll a week ago...but I feel confident asserting that they didn't.

Plus, the announcers were able to talk about the ratings for Total Divas, which had just come in earlier in the day, so that part of commentary had to be live as well.

It's not usually like WWE to telegraph something like Vince wishing there was a way for neither Cena nor Bryan to win the title followed by Orton stealing it, at least not without changing it. But I definitely prefer the return to A to B to C storytelling instead of the make it up as you go along.

If you look back, this whole summer angle has been laid out since the Daniel Bryan weak link and furious comebacks against the Shield started. Bryan wants to prove he's not the weak link, Bryan and Orton have a lot of matches with the Shield, Bryan and Orton split up, Bryan beats Orton clean, Bryan picks up a bunch of momentum, Bryan is the overwhelming fan favorite to win the WWE title ........... all set up for Bryan to win the title (with another small package maybe), only for Orton's cruel simmering revenge to dash the dreams of him and the fans? It'd probably be more fun for me just to see Bryan win a classic match with Cena, but I can't deny that it's a logical, practical longterm story that should in theory make Orton a big heel, make Bryan an even bigger babyface, and set up a threeway main event program for the fall.

Vince is going to need a pretty good explanation to pick ol' Two Strike Orton as the better corporate champion over Cena or Bryan. Perhaps that'll be Triple H's point.

(We're also distressingly close to A McMahon In Every Corner 2.)
