So, now that it's happened? Did anyone watch? I thought it was a fine race, but it was hardly the revolutionary night many made it out to be. Consider:
- A big deal was made of Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon driving from 13th and 19th, respectively, to the front. The initial green flag run was 54 laps and the second was 30 laps. Good cars would have done a similar thing on pavement.
- If you put a 150-lap race at Bristol (another 1/2 mile track) and had a couple of long(ish) green flag runs, six total cautions, AND a green/white/checkered finish, I'm pretty sure that people would be all over how great it was.
So, I enjoyed it, as I do most every motor race I watch. But I didn't think it was "ZOMG THE GREATEST THING EVER!!~!!~!11`1" that seemed to be the consensus among the NASCAR Twitterati. Bring the trucks back to Eldora all the time and send the trucks to more dirt tracks if you want (Lord knows the series needs help with it's identity), but that's about it.
Holy fuck shit motherfucker shit. Read comics. Fuck shit shit fuck shit I sold out when I did my job. Fuck fuck fuck shit fuck. Sorry had to do it....

I thought it was pretty neat. It wasn't what I was expecting a "dirt track" to look like (having never been to a dirt track race myself, I expected the track to look...I don't know...less smooth), and I thought there'd be a lot more cautions, to be honest. Still, I thought the racing was really good and it's a neat addition to the calendar that sets the truck series apart from the other two (aside from the fact that they're racing trucks, not cars :))

Pretty much everything here, except I knew all about dirt racing.
It was ZOMG because Trucks were sliding all over the place, multiple lanes were being used, and passes were being made. I think Jay Jay Dean missed the point about why the runs of Larson and Dillon were being praised. It was BECAUSE of the track, and the track favored the leader all night long during the heat races. So pulling through the field like they did was impressive. Especially since they did it in a relatively small amount of time.
It was a race- a good race. I think the point is, a typical race (which this was) is much more exciting on dirt with the options it provides.
Also, it opens people like geemoney (who have never seen a dirt race) up to maybe one day checking out their local dirt track and maybe even become regulars. There are much worse ways to spend Fri/Sat/Sun nights, especially if you have family.

DISCLAIMER: I have seen many dirt races, both on TV and in person.
I don't think I missed the point...I think the point was trying to be made by NASCAR (and the TV commentators and the NASCAR media) that I was watching something that was surpassing my wildest expectations, and I guess I'm saying that wasn't it. I realize we live in a "the latest thing is the greatest"-society, but an awesome race is an awesome race and an average race is an average race. I thought that was an average race with a great finish (because of the GWC). And it happened to be on dirt.
Was there impressive driving? Of course. Was the battle between Dillon, Larson, and Newman fantastic? Definitely. Could the same thing have happened on pavement? Yes. That's all I'm saying.
