30 years or so.

Oh right, I should do a write up on this. I thought it was way better than the Mick Foley wife swap with Antonio Sabato Jr.'s girlfriend. That episode made me dislike the lazy Foley family. Both Ric Flair's family (and to be fair, it's actually Fifi's kids who were the family - though there was a dedication to Reid Fleihr at the end) and Roddy Piper's family were much more likeable.

So notes:

Roddy Piper and family live a hermit-like existence in a mountain in the Pacific Northwest. Ric Flair lives the Nature Boy stylin' and profilin' lifestyle in the big house in Charlotte - WOOOOOOOO! By God! - North Carolina.

Fifi, who is Flair's current girlfriend (Ric's four ex-wives are mentioned and Beth Flair - who looks and sounds like an old alcoholic - appears because she's been friends with Roddy Piper's wife for 30 years and was there at Roddy's wedding) and Piper's wife swapped families for a week. The breakdown is Fifi is a pampered woman who doesn't ever cook or clean and relies on hired help for everything. Mrs. Piper is a a workhouse and slave to her home and family who does all the cooking and chores on their mountain farm. Fifi has a brood of tween girls, Piper has two teen daughters and a son who is training to be a pro wrestler.

Neither wife knew who they were going to live with so there was some comedy when they each realized it was their husband's former wrestling adversary and real life friend they swapped for a week. Roddy was especially amused and a little alarmed his wife was with Ric Flair.

Roddy Piper never goes out, never spends money unless it's on his kids and on necessities, and spends all of his time on the mountain either training his son or playing the bagpipes. Ric of course goes out all night, every night, drops money everywhere he goes (to the bafflement of many both on the show and watching at home - where does the money come from?) and needs to be the Naitch 24/7, 365, hardly spending time at home with Fifi's kids. Fifi likes the lifestyle but resigned herself to sharing Ric with the public who never stops asking for autographs and pictures. Ric loves it. There's comedy at one point where Mrs. Piper makes Ric go to a grocery store to save money incognito and Ric is furious he has to wear a hoodie and fake mustache. ("Yeah, I saved some money! So what?!") It's revealed Ric spends no less than $300 at restaurants every night and spends $50,000 a year on housekeeping alone. ("It's my money, so what?")

So, Fifi had to cook and clean for Roddy and family for a while while Mrs. Piper couldn't keep up with going out on the town with the Naitch. Then they did the switching of house rules where Fifi hired house cleaners to clean the Piper home while she took the Piper clan shopping and to a spa. Roddy ended up enjoying himself and even went on a date night with Fifi, wearing a kilt, no less. Roddy learned to lighten up and promise to take his real wife out once in a while and live a little.

Meanwhile, the story of Ric Flair more or less became an intervention. Mrs. Piper consulted with Beth Flair and then sat Ric down and asked him all these personal, probing questions on how hard retirement's been for him. It took 40 minutes but Ric finally cried. Then Ric cooked in his kitchen with Fifi's kids for the first time and promised to try to spend more time at home, which he hates to do.

When the husbands and wives were reunited, the intervention for Flair continued with Piper asking Ric to slow down and stop spending money like there's no tomorrow. Ric didn't seem like he was going to heed that advice, but the closing chyron said he'd made and effort while the Pipers were considering moving away from the mountain and tried to live a little more of an indulgent lifestyle (which Piper's kids were all for).

The inadvertently funniest line was from Mrs. Piper about Ric: "I can see what his four ex-wives saw in Ric."

We all know the story of Flair's financial issues, but was I the only one who thought just maybe he was asked to go a little over the top on this?

I still enjoyed it though ...

Oh, most definitely. There's some degree of forgery in any reality show. Foley's talked about how badly they exaggerated the laziness stuff from his episode.

Read it and weep, fella

I couldnt make it past the first(?) commercial break because Fifi was that unbearable. I remember feeling the same way about Antonio Sabato Jr's girlfriend way back when. I assume the whole "fish out of water" angle is normally a big part of the show.

From what I saw, Piper's family seems really cool and down to earth. I always assumed his lifestyle would be a little closer to Flair's than to Foley's, but I guess not!

I wanted to punch Fifi in the face after a few minutes and that's why I had to turn it off. Sorry I missed the interventions though. Maybe I'll go catch the rest on Hulu. Maybe.

I also assumed that, when Fifi insisted on taking the Piper family on a shopping expedition to the tune of $8000+, that Roddy was reimbursed by the production company.

"Reality TV Show" might be the biggest oxymoron since jumbo shrimp.
