My friend's PS3 hard drive failed. I thought I could replace it, and why not replace my own at the same time. This was a horrible idea. Somewhere along the way, the (one) HDMI port on back of his HDTV decided it no longer wanted to work and it was only luck that I still had my red/yellow/white SD connector around to give him. My new hard drive is still sitting on the box, because I can not get the screws off the hard drive caddy at all. Not one of them, not a budge, and pretty well stripped now.
I am writing this after walking to Walmart at 10pm for the express purpose of buying needle nosed pliers to turn the screws. I am now covered in sweat from the walk, the drive caddy is scratched up, and the screws remain unbudged. I am defeated.

Yikes, that sucks. I had the opposite experience when I decided to upgrade my HD a few years ago. The only hiccup was backing up what was on the HD and restoring it on the new one. That took a few hours since I did it through a USB 2.0 enclosure.
If the pliers aren't working, try placing a rubber band over the screw and using a screwdriver again. The rubber band can sometimes fill the gaps enough to loosen it to where you could use the pliers. I've had this work before.
One other tip I've read is to melt a pen cap slightly and then insert it into the screw. When it solidifies, it should fill the gaps enough to move. I have no experience if it works or not, but that was my backup plan if the rubber band trip didn't work. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice, but it's still not coming loose. It's probably me. I just bought a new drive bay off eBay so I don't have to deal with this one anymore.
Getting those screws off was a huge pain in the ass. I think mine stripped basically immediately, and I had to claw at them with the pliers to get them off.
I upgraded my PS3 HD to a 1TB drive at Christmas (thanks to my wife, who's the best in the world) and I found the entire upgrading process to be relatively painless.
1TB drives should be the bare minimum on these kinds of systems.

Awww man. All of those Talking Heads songs and not "Burning Down the House"? Come on! I want to play GH5 for exactly the same reason as you. "In the Meantime" is the best. Looking forward to "Under Pressure" as well...
