Why not Axel Curtis ... or Axel Hennig ... just give him the damn last name of "Hennig" ...

If they wanted to really get him over, why didn't they have him attack & beat down Triple H at the end?

Obviously, they couldn't have him attack HHH to get over as a heel at the end (Because HHH), but couldn't they at least have had THE GENESIS stare at HHH demanding all that water, grab a mic and say "This ring isn't a pool, Triple H, no matter how badly you want it to be!"?

But yeah, as someone who cherises the NXT2 finale among my favorite episodes of television ever, the reveal of McGillicutty (and then his new name, which is perfectly awkward) was riveting. Everything after that, not so much.

The Shield vs. Hell No/Kofi match was fantastic, and Bryan is the best guy in the company by a pretty huge margin. The weekly Daniel Bryan Tag Team Hope Spot Showcase is pretty much the only thing I watch for at this point, and I hope they notice that the crowds love it, as it is a testament to what can happen when you let talented people display talent. (The Shield, of course, continues to be consistently great, and I'm enjoying how they've stepped up their mid-match trash-talking, especially Rollins' weird raspy garbage demon voice. Credit to all three guys for carving out individual niches for themselves in a gimmick that would seem to defy it, and constantly adding to and refining it.)

I want to know exactly what fantasy send-off HHH has constructed for himself so I can pay a crowd to make it happen, because it's clear at this point he's going to keep retiring and then unretiring and spending millions until we meet his expectations. The "HHH will valiently hold the show hostage for entire quarter hours if that's what it takes to get a 'HHH!' chant going" routine is perversely entertaining.

Are they throwing out the Summerslam Brock/HHH match and multiple armbreakings now? HHH pretty much declared them 1-1 last night. On-air HHH: every bit as awful as developmental talent scout/talent relations HHH is good, and probably costs them the same amount of money, too.

Edited to add:

My guess is, Big T and Harlem Heat 2000, LLC still legally own the rights to the last name of "T" in professional wrestling and is licensing the rights to both Booker and Tensai to maximize his profit.

Oh yeah, the theme! I think I saw others describe it better than I would have, so I'm not stealing anyone's thunder, but yeah, I'm a fan.

You see, it's that first part of your sentence where your logic goes awry.

What AJ is referring to is the only thing I (choose to) remember from last night.

Yeah, it looked like he read some tips in a "Batista Your Wardrobe!" article in GQ a few weeks prior, but this was the first week they had him just go out and play mean dick Batista. He wasn't bad at it.

For me it's the weekly Daniel Bryan Hot Tag. Forearms forearms forearms forearms kicks dropkick DIVE. Crazy. Crowd has gotten so sucked into these long six-mans and the Shield's tag team tactics that they were shrieking at Kane to warn him that he was about to be Shielded again, to no avail.

You should've seen the visual at the end of the PPV. Brock nigh-literally buried him with his beloved sledgehammer, never to be seen aga... oh, hey.

I think you need to put this John Cena heel turn idea in your pocket for a while, my friend. It's not on the agenda. You've got at least two more matches with Ryback, then probably Cena and Undertaker vs. the Shield, then one more placeholder feud and we're into Wrestlemania season and then, maybe, just maybe, the muscular man who shows up to knock out John Cena at the end of the Raw the night after Wrestlemania this time will be John Cena's evil side, suppressed in his psyche for years of smiling through boos and beatdowns and unfair losses.

Only thing I can think of to explain Curt Axel is the WWE thought they'd do the same thing they did with Rocky Johnson and Peter Maivia.

At least Rocky Maivia sounds somewhat natural. Curt Axel is a guy I somehow expect to get fired from 3MB, gain 50 pounds and have cornrows.

Oh sure, I'm under no illusions about that, I get that a heel turn isn't even on the WWE's long, long, long, long term agenda with Cena (my gut says they wouldn't even turn him whilst ending the streak) but with Rock not coming back for the forseeable future they need someone to keep those older/casual fans interested.
Hell I'll be honest, I haven't really watched Raw since WM, the moment Cena got that clean win and hugged it out with the Rock at the end, It really hit home that the product is just not made for people like me anymore. Maybe that was the message VKM was trying to send out. If it was, then fair enough, I got it.

Hey, if they bring CM Punk back as a face/tweener and don't book him as John Cena 2.0, that might convince me to tune back in!

Been feeling that way myself, like the business has passed me by or like I've somehow "outgrown" it. Luckily we live in a time where a lot of different wrestling products are more readily available and we don't have to settle for what's on television.

I'm really crossing my fingers that we somehow get Cena vs. Daniel Bryan as a program over the summer. Those two could really tear the house down if they let them.

It just seems like the big take away from this RAW went from the "New Heyman Guy" to "A retired wrestler has a concussion."

Exactly what I was thinking. For what it's worth, I saw the "Heyman's new Guy" bumper during a commercial from the hockey game and came back to see who it was, then I came back to see his match later. I was a big fan of his dad's and I had liked what little I had seen of him with his previous name so here's hoping he does become "The Axe" or something else we can't even foresee.

Going back and watching on DVR I was surprised by the (sort of) new blood or at least not the same old guys who were getting some matches and time to do it last night. RAW just isn't appointment television the way it was for me, especially if there's some good football, basketball, hockey, baseball on, but some fresh-ish faces will have me checking back from time to time to make sure I'm not missing something potentially special.

I can't understand why they don't go with "Hennig" either, but I think Curtis Lawrence or Larry Curtis would have been preferable to Curtis Axel.

I think it is great that someone like Axel gets put into such a high profile spot with a can't miss manager, but even if Helmsley didn't make him look like a fool is he really the right guy for the spot? I always thought of McGuillcutty like I thought of Ted Dibiase Jr, kind of bland. I actually thought he was Dibiase when he came out.

I wonder if Heyman took this challenge on or they are setting Heyman up to look like a fool? Neither one would surprise me. I hope they pull it off, but I don't have faith in Curtis Axel or the WWE's willingness to make him a real star.
