Hello everyone,

As most of you know, I be Canadian. So I have a Canadian question about an American process.

My wife's parents moved to Florida (her dad got a job there), and they both now have green cards. My wife is close with her parents (they talk on the phone once or twice a day), and I was thinking about the possibility of eventually moving down there to enjoy spending time with her family (well, the weather don't hurt. My health issues would improve greatly with the improved weather). Of course, having a green card would be uber helpful because I wouldn't mind, you know, working legally while living there.

I'm looking through different websites, and I'm seeing that it's only citizens who can apply to have married children get a green cards.

I guess I'm wondering what kind of options are out there for us right now. Married, with a two year old son.

I hate to state the obvious, but you should ask an immigration attorney.

Having said that, the main options are to be sponsored by a close relative who is a citizen (and it sounds like that's not an option) or to be sponsored by an employer. But, it's tough to find an employer who will sponsor someone for some type of work visa unless your job skills are in great demand or highly specialized.

I was going to say the same thing but was apparently even more reluctant to state the obvious. My sister-in-law is getting married to an Indian guy and they've said that sorting through the green card details has been surprisingly confusing, and their situation is simpler than yours.

I did my entire family-based Green Card process without a lawyer, but with the knowledge found at http://www.visajourney.com/.

Check there for advice.

Until last week I had never heard of The Better Show but then I got a call and was asked to come on to talk about my Southwestern Turkey Soup recipe on allrecipes.com - the segment aired today http://www.better.
