Hader's the best guy on the show. The season finale will be his last. (tvline.com)

The article notes Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis are likely to leave as well, Sudeikis for real this time.

Nothing but love for Bill Hader, one of the all-time greats on SNL. His endless well of amazing impressions (Alan Alda!?!), wide range of characters, ability to play the straight man in allll those game show parodies.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sudekis leaves, and during Portlandia season, it's Armisen Overkill, so I'm ok with him waving goodbye.

NOT STEFON!!!!

Seriously, Hader's by far the best thing on the show and has been for years. I'll miss Vincent Price and Alan Alda and Julian Assange as well. While obviously no one can or ever should be compared to Phil Hartman, he filled that utility role of being able to work in virtually any skit that Hartman created.

Hader is the best guy. I'll miss him. I hope we get Stefon and Keith Morrison on the season finale, at least.

Armisen is the dirt worst. When the best things you do are Garth & Kat and The Californians, it's best for all involved if you go away forever. He's like a male Kristen Wiig, except I always got the sense that she was funny even if her recurring characters weren't, and there's nothing funny about Armisen.

With Seth Myers leaving for Late Night, who should be the new Weekend Update anchor?

Taran Killam seems obvious to me ... he doesn't have a recurring Update character, and I'm certain can play it straight enough. I'd love to see Bobby Moynahan give it a go but not at the expense of Drunk Uncle.

Speculation has been that SNL will bring John Mullaney back into the fold as the new anchor. He was a writer (and appeared on Update once) and NBC passed on his sitcom pilot for the fall season. They'll probably bring in some new blood regardless if at least 2-4 veterans are leaving after this year.

Can't help it's a good thing for the overall health of the show if some of these long-time cast members are finally leaving. It used to be that five years on SNL was more or less the limit, but there have been a lot of recent or current cast members who have been pushing or exceeding a decade. Wiig, for instance, left at least a couple of years past her expiry date --- watching her hosting gig last week reminded me how much I disliked most of her characters, and besides, returning to host less than a year after leaving doesn't leave NEARLY enough time for nostalgia.

All that said, Hader is leaving when he still has gas in the tank. Probably one of the more underrated guys in the recent cast, given how most of the attention went to Wiig, Armisen or even Sudeikis.

Read it and weep, fella

Hader and Sudekis are probably the best, but my fav is Bobby Moinahan, followed by Keenan Thompson & Taran Killam. Weird choices, I know.

Oh, and Nasim Pedran is kinda hot.

Kinda? She's amazing and I'm always hoping to see more of her.

Stefon has been my favourite recurring character from the last few seasons, so I'll really really miss finding out more about New York's hottest nightspots. I'm amazed at the range of characters that Hader can do and hope he finds success beyond SNL.

Killam is great. He quickly grew from background guy to one of the main reasons for watching it.

Without Hader they'll have a large hole to fill.
He's so good at being the little side character in any skit.
Oh, and he is also every gameshow host ever.

Forget one final Stefon skit. Will they do "what's up with that?" and have his Lindsay BUckingham finally get some time???

Killam is too good to be shunted off to Weekend Update. Of the weakest ACTORS left, Weird Tim would probably be best if they don't bring in Mulaney. Ooh, maybe Kenan?

There's no rule that says the Update anchor HAS to do just Update. Fallon and Poehler were still in plenty of sketches when they were on WU, though I guess being a co-anchor makes things easier. Nasim was supposed to be a cast member on Mulaney's sitcom (didn't get picked up by NBC), so maybe we could have the two of them as co-anchors next season.

I was always utterly amazed and impressed that Hader and Meyers never COMPLETELY lost it during the Stefon sketches. Just some of the descriptions of "New York's Hottest new club is..." are hysterical.

I will miss hader more than any cast member since Hartman. When Hartman left I always wondered how they would ever replace him. I am wondering the same about Hader.

Oh and as bad as it might be, I would see "Stefon the Movie".

Life is hilariously cruel.

I will really miss Hader, probably one of my all-time top 5 favorites on SNL. I do agree that some of the old guard stepping aside is good for the show, as they do have a lot of talented new people underneath.

Or it could be time for Norm MacDonald's comeback!

Going to miss Hader and Sudekis, who along with Forte and The Lonely Island was the strongest SNL lineup ever to be dragged down by Kristen Wiig's recurring characters.

I'm amazed that anyone found Stefon even mildly amusing more than once. It's like the "Ask A..." bit from the Onion, except they at least try to make that different every time. Maybe I'm just OLD.

I am pushing 40, and I love Stephon. Yes, it is basically the same joke/formula each time, but what recurring SNL skit isn't? He and Seth trying not to laugh was part of the appeal.

So, I got Epix this weekend for free and they showed William Shatner's Captains where he interviewed all the former Starfleet captains including Chris Pine and Christopher Plummer. It was pretty damn good.
