I won't lie, a lot of that Raw was the pits, as per usual. But it's completely redeemed by the Shield/Brothers of Hell No match, which is going to rank up there with Cena/Punk as one of the best TV matches of the year. Only an anticlimactic ending keeps it from the greatness of that match. Great stuff from all parties! No post-match angle of any kind, so it looks like this was a one-off, but definitely a fine one.

The show's other big angle saw Mick Foley wagging his finger at Ryback for ditching Cena last week, so Ryback wanted a main event confrontation. Mick did his best with the mic, working it the only way he can, but Ryback was almost sublimely bad. His delivery and timing were ALL over the place, none of what he was saying was making any sense, and he wasn't even talking into the mic half the time. He was truly terrible, but I won't lie that it was almost perversely entertaining. I'm actually wondering if we may have the second coming of Sid on our hands here.

Anyway, John Cena comes out before anything interesting happens, but that leads to another Shield run-in. This time, it's Cena who leaves Ryback to the wolves. The Shield start dismantling Ryback, but Cena eventually saves with a steel chair, destroying all the Shield members single-handedly. Super Cena, everybody! And of course, after that's over, he easily polishes off Ryback with the AA. This "feud" can't end soon enough.

Anything else happen? Well, Dolph Ziggler beat Chris Jericho in a good match that was only marred when Fandango's music caused a distraction in an ending that's totally original and has never been done before! Also, Antonio Cesaro continues his plunge to absolute nothingness when he lost clean to R-Truth, who's back to doing his "What's Up?" entrance, because character progression is for chumps. Big E Langston demolished Zack Ryder, destroying any notion of a Ryder Mania Revenge Tour. And AJ won a title shot by winning the always-entertaining FIVE PERSON battle royale.

Still, it's a Raw that passes solely on the strength of that awesome six-man. Until next time!

I want to thank the WWE for not putting the Taker match on last. It was nice to tune into the last hour, get the match I wanted to see right off the bat, actually enjoy that match and then get an early start on sleep.

I really enjoyed the Ziggler/Jericho match, and I thought it played nicely to Ziggler's strengths. Our new World Heavyweight Champion ought to be getting lots of sneaky wins on his opponents, not losing cleanly with no build like he did with Swagger last week. Seriously, Swagger's continued presence in the World Heavyweight Championship picture is absolutely baffling. Let del Rio do an honest title chase, and we might get some genuinely entertaining wrestling out of it.

Amen. I actually liked Raw for the most part and I'm glad I didn't see Super Cena return after that great six man match. Jericho/Ziggler should have been at Mania. Poor Mick, somehow he will get blamed for Ryback being awful when in fact the heel turn and giving him, the mic is the real problem.

Are they setting up soon-to-be tag champs The Shield vs. Cena/Taker (Team Burial) for Summerslam? That would allow them to work the feuding partner angle for the Mania main event.

The Shield tag match was great, and the Jericho-Ziggler match was solid. The rest of the show was just there, at best.

Cesaro might be the most talented in ring guy they have, but he is treated like the modern day Barry Horowitz. At least he beat Skip.

Ryback calling out "Super Cena" and Mick for shamelessly promoting the DVD was great, and I could get behind him if they continue to give him that CM Punk like edge.

Again, I think the crowd brought this show up.

In front of a smark-ish crowd I figured they'd use Cena as little as possible and have Foley try and get some heel heat on Ryback, but for me The Foley/Ryback stuff just felt like a stale re-run of the stuff Punk was doing with him shortly after his heel turn.

I get that in both cases Foley was simply trying to sell both as the heel to the older fans in a way that Cena can't, but the high and mighty finger wagging is getting a bit old now.

Yes, John Cena is an incorruptible good guy who can never do wrong & anyone who dares criticize him in any way (even if those points are valid) is simply making excuses, we get it Foley/Commentators stop over selling it.

Unless they're planning some sort of double turn/swerve with Ryback/Cena at ER (After WM, that's sort of booking is looking pretty Utopian right about now) then this is going to be a painfully long year.

I've given up on Cena turning heel. However, I was really really hoping last night that Foley was going to go heel and be Ryback's manager/mouthpiece. I thought I caught a whiff of that with how things were going, but I guess not. I thought they were setting him up as a mentor kinda guy with all the advice, and was half expecting him to attack Cena from behind rather than slink out of the ring. Ah well.

You thought the GM of the child-friendly Saturday Morning Slam show was going to turn heel?

You poor poor man - being FORCED to watch these broadcasts!

Every time someone actually utters "Super Cena" and "The Ryback" is WWE desperately trying to co-opt those terms to keep online folks from using them. Don't fall for this ploy and stop using them because they are no longer cool, my Internet brethren!

Any crowd more interested in doing "the wave" than enjoying a Jericho/Ziggler match happening in the right in front of their faces can go to hell. Straight to hell.

Don't insult Sid like that.  Sid had a terrible way with words ("I don't know shit, crybaby!" @2:41) , but the way he'd mess up was entertaining and fed right into his mentally unstable crazy character.  Ryback could learn a thing or two from him.

I don't mind what they're doing with Cena and Ryback story-wise.  It actually has made sense on a lot of levels.  It's just coming too little, too late for Ryback.  I don't think Cena needed to pour salt in the wounds by AAing Ryback at the end, but since Cena's such a do-gooder, it made sense for him to come in and save Ryback as a way of saying "See?  I'm not that big of an asshole!"  I get what WWE is doing here, at least.  No complaints, but I'm still not buying your PPV.

The 6-man was great for what it was.  The Undertaker has really evolved into one of the coolest WWE stars.  I remember when I dreaded every Undertaker match, but now I almost feel privileged every time he wrestles on TV, because it's so rare and he knows how to stage a match well, and I feel Ambrose, Reins and Bryan benefitted from the time they got with him in this.

I know I let people down by not covering this in the Smackdown thread, but I did watch the show even if I didn't recap it, so something from there jumps out.

The Shield had a promo on Smackdown talking about how The Ryback had seen the light and understood that Cena was the real problem now. They gave him props for that. So in light of that, why would they come down to beat him up? I was expecting the Shield and The Ryback to join forces and go after Cena, but instead they fought each other for no reason.

I know we make the joke about inconsistent writing from show to show often enough, but this really strikes me as a legitimate example of that, where someone forgot what happened on Smackdown when booking the ending of Raw.

For "The Ryback" at least, I figure it's Cena mainly using his double-date pal D-Bry's inside joke on TV.

And yeah, the wave is the worst. Jericho/Ziggler was awesome of course, as was that amazing Shield/UT-Hell No match. We've seen so little of what these 3 can do in the ring, it's all so fresh and exciting. Especially Seth Rollins' Ziggler-esque bumping.

I enjoyed pretty much the whole show with one complaint - Ziggler & AJ's backstage chat calling Kaitlyn a "hippo"... are we REALLY going back to that "bizzaro world" (TM Superman super-fan Jerry Lawler) where women who look like Kaitlyn are "fat"? Please no...

They're heels. You can't consider their insults to be the official WWE line. Maybe this will start a bullying angle until Katitlyn brings in kayfabe beau, John Morrison.

It was weird to hear Lawler toss out an insult like "AJ was 20 before she knew cars had a front seat" and hear dead air as Cole and JBL decided how to handle it. Same with "My girlfriend used to kiss me on the mouth. Now it's all over." They had no problem laughing at each other's jokes otherwise, and it felt like they were either sandbagging him or they were waiting for the presumed home audience laughter to die down before they spoke.

I know, I know, but it's just lazy as an insult and obviously not true and gave me flashbacks to poor Molly Holly and "Piggie James"... If AJ & Kaitlyn are Former BFFs, can't she find a million other things to mock her about?

When women argue or dislike each other they call each other fat. This is not the same as the Trish/Molly Holly deal.

How is it different? Both were written by the WWE to have the heels insult the weight of a woman who wasn't at all fat.

Molly was the bad guy then, wasn't she? Wasn't Trish the face when she said Molly had a lot of junk in her trunk?

JBL is getting in his shots on Tons of Funk, but he's playing the cool heel.

I guess it was the face calling the heel fat then, but really at the end of the day there's no difference. Everyone (even kids) knows it's fake, but the way they tell the story still matters and affects people. CM Punk and Taker had almost no heat going into what should have been an easy build in part because the way they told the story was uncomfortable. It was also just stupid, and neither guy really seemed into it, but bringing in a dead manager didn't help at all.

The whole "Women feuding must call each other fat" is really just a sign of bad/lazy writing. It's no different than TNA making all the women call each other bitches and sluts for years because that's how their creative team thought women really argued with each other.

I, too, was very happy I could watch the 6-man tag and head to bed.

I think I'd be tempted to buy a Daniel Bryan t-shirt that said "I have DIAGRAMS!!"

Not sure what this has to do with the putdown portion of the discussion, but that's not why the buildup sucked. Punk and Taker seemed more than into it once the ash-bath happened. The buildup sucked because it wasn't well planned. The writers were used to building for epic UT vs. redemption/I have to beat you/sign staring/you can't win/HIAC. They dropped the ball because this match wasn't about any of those things.
