Today's a holiday, I had the day off work, so I'm indulging myself and taking a day off of recaps too. I know, I'm weak.
Highlights? Well, Chris Jericho might have listened to It's False, as this week he pointed out Fandango's entrance set-up as heralding his imminent arrival before Fandango actually showed up. The Rock showed up on Smackdown, something that John Cena and Triple H couldn't be bothered to do, having a run-in with the returning John Laurinaitis whose name I haven't missed attempting to spell. And we had the main show debut of former Canadian sportscaster Renee Young (née Paquette), doing a backstage interview with Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show and showing that it helps to hire a woman who's comfortable talking on camera to do interviews rather than a woman who's from a modeling background and trying to teach her how to be comfortable talking on camera.
Oh, and Antonio Cesaro yodels now. Um. Yeah.
I'm sure I missed a bunch of stuff that was worth mentioning. So help me out! Smackdown thoughts, go!
So far, the only guy who it seems like he gives a shit if I buy WrestleMania or not is John Cena. Everybody else is just going through the motions, and even Cena's really only cut two promos that might entice me to make a purchase. What I'm saying is, why are they not trying to sell me this show? Who thinks Big Johnny is going to make me want to spend money, particularly when he hasn't even been on tv for like a year? I'm not trying to sound hyperbolic, but this is the worst WrestleMania booking that I can ever remember.
My kids kept a tally of the times that AXE commercial ran during Smackdown: 23. Yep. Same ad. Two hour show. 23 times. WTH?
I really wish I could be more excited about attending my first Wrestlemania. More like Half-Ass-a-mania. There are no celebrities (do we have to count Diddy?)no cage or cell matches, no Money in the Bank matches, no battle royals and the main event is a re-run of last year. It's feeling more like an outdoor Raw where the only real drama is whether or not it's going to rain or snow.
I noticed Smackdown was on tonight, so I decided to check it out for a bit throughout the night. Here is my casual fan perspective:
I kept it on when Heyman was talking. That seemed to be a cool segment. It made me want to see Lesnar annihilate HHH.
I flipped back and forth during the Ryback/Henry challenge. I was not impressed by Ryback from what I saw of him there. Henry managed to make it look interesting. Not sure if I would have watched it if I wasn't aware of how badass Henry became in the past few years.
The other segment that I stayed tuned for was the AJ love interests match.

Ok, I had to check this out for myself and it was at least nice to see some consistency from this end. The Logic Gods are pleased.
In every world, there must exist a little Wrestlecrap. I'm not saying that in a bad way, either. The Henry/Ryback weight lifting challenge is exactly the kind of old-school silliness that works when used sporadically. I was getting flashbacks to the old Warrior/Rude posedowns from the late 80's/early 90's. I dug it.
During the Henry/Ryback segment, did Henry use the barbell to choke Ryback? I noticed he was holding his throat. Just hoping we don't have a Justin Roberts tie incident.

Extended forecast calls for cloudy skies, little chance of rain, high of 54, low 49. Not ideal weather to sit in a stadium, but it could be a LOT worse this time of year. I'd say they probably have dodged a bullet.
-- Watched the Rock promo, up til Laurinitas came out - eh, OK. -- Watched the Jericho/Barrett match - good, except the Miz interference. -- Watched the Jericho promo on Scaramouch-will-you-do-the - awesome. -- Watched the Heyman promo - magnificent.
FF'd everything else.
That barely put a dent in my Walking Dead marathing viewing.
