It's 48 days until Wrestlemania, with no more PPV's remaining! The buildup starts now!

And the buildup begins proper with John Cena. He comes out to start hyping up his title pursuit, but CM Punk isn't ready to step aside just yet. Punk derides Cena winning the Rumble and demands Cena step down and give him the title shot with Rock, by virtue of Cena having never beaten Punk. Cena proposes to settle this with John Cena/CM Punk One More Time, with the winner getting the Wrestlemania main event. Punk accepts the match...for next week!

The rest of the show felt like kind of a big mess. Promos were ending awkwardly all over the place. Wade Barrett's promo, in particular, was just all over the place and I don't even know what the point of it even was, other than to plug Dead Man Down. Sheamus' rebuttal on Titantron made even less sense, but I think the upshot is that we might be building to Barrett/Sheamus...I think. We hardly knew ye, Bo Dallas.

Then came the promo with Vickie Guerrero and Paul Heyman. Vickie names an assistant, because every authority figure needs an assistant. Remember when Vickie being Managing Supervisor was supposed to be temporary? And AWWWW FUCK, it's Brad Maddox. They just won't give up with this guy, will they? Maddox comes in and cuts a HORRIBLE promo and I don't even know what he even said or what the point of this entire bit was. Vince McMahon cuts a remote promo on the Titantron and he says he's coming back next week to "fight" Paul Heyman. Look for that Lesnar/Triple H buildup to begin in earnest with that segment.

Sheamus and Ryback were taking their loss to The Shield very hard and are at a complete loss. Chris Jericho rallies them together and they have a six-man with The Shield. TV does NOT do Shield matches justice (no pun intended), because the commerical breaks just kill any flow. Jericho looks to finish Ambrose with the Walls and Sheamus even makes sure to dispose of Reigns, but no one's watching Rollins and he nails Jericho with the top-rope curb stomp to finish for The Shield! The Shield win again and they've not only laid waste to the entire roster, but they've done it without breaking a sweat!

Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler have a nice match that should give a good window into their future feud. Del Rio wins with the jujigatame, but Big E Langston kills him dead afterwards. Dolph wants to cash in, but Ricardo runs away with the briefcase! The fact that they need the physical briefcase to start the match is utterly ludicrous. Big E eventually retrieves the briefcase, but ADR has recovered by this point and lays out Dolph with the enziguiri, as Dolph continues to look more like a joke with every passing week.

On the other end, Jack Swagger delivers a State of the Union address with Zeb Coulter and it's along the lines of every Swagger promo to this point. He and Daniel Bryan have a nice match that ends with Swagger winning with the Patriot Act Patriot Lock. Del Rio watches from the back, but no interaction just yet.

Miz gets YET ANOTHER shot at the U.S. title (EDIT: No, he doesn't.), this time in a No DQ match. It's a short match that Miz wins clean (!) with the FIGURE-FOUR to win the title? (EDIT: No.) Who booked THAT crap? Man, was it ridiculous to watch Cesaro tap out furiously to a hold that barely looked like it was on straight.

Damien Sandow/Kofi Kingston never got started, as both guys brawled with Sandow getting the better of that exchange. Save is made by the returning R-Truth! Truth destroys Sandow and it looks like we have an Air Truth reunion! Whether Air Truth/Rhodes Scholars happens on Raw or at Wrestlemania remains to be seen.

The Rock got the main event promo, as he came out to the Lafayette marching band. Hearing a marching band play Rock's theme was perversely entertaining. Rock started his promo by deciding to FINALLY RETIRE THAT GODDAMN SPINNER BELT! Thank God! He then reveals...oh, dear lord, it's an EVEN UGLIER BELT!!!

Is designing a decent title belt really THIS hard?

Anyway, John Cena takes umbrage to having his belt replaced, so he comes out for the big confrontation. But he gets laid out in the aisle from behind by CM Punk, who wipes him out with the spinner belt! Punk and Rock have the big staredown to end the show.

So...is Undertaker competing this year or not? Because this looks to me like they're setting up a Triple Threat match. Guess we'll find out what happens next week.

Until next time! Take us home, Lance Storm!

Aw man is Falsy gonna post his recap while I'm typing this and embarrass me YES but I caught it just in time.

That show was bad until the "wait, for really?" at the end. I was ready to write about how they pulled over on the Road to Wrestlemania to take a nap for a week and then .............. hmmmm. They tend not to shoot angles in the lead-up for Wrestlemania that aren't, you know, for Wrestlemania. So basically every indication that there ain't gonna be no gong this year and Twice In A Lifetime is about to become Thrice In A Onetime. Unless that's just what they want me to think.

Also, belt. Uh, th..anks.

CM Punk added to the WM main event to fight for a non-spinner? Was this show booked by neckbearded internet fans of true professional wrestling not so-called sports entertainment?

"Assistant To The" jokes legit make me feel bad for them. Like, that reference is from 2006. 2001 if you count the BBC. Brad Maddox is going to put the new title belt in jelly. Brad's What She Said. In five years, Bo Dallas and Roman Reigns will be doing Troy & Abed In The Morning secret handshakes.

Aw man not Jericho/Ryback. Don't Jericho and Ziggler want to settle things? No? But if not another assemblage of top faces, who's a suitable opponent for the Shield? After they've gone over main eventers in all their matches, I don't think in-fighting Hell No is at that level. Not even in a prestigious Undisputed Tag Team Title Match.

Beyond the two title matches and presumptive HHH/Lesnar we would seem to still know nothing. I assume Great Khali and Mark Henry will not be pointing at the Wrestlemania sign.

Mark Henry dancing punjab.

I do love Jack Swagger's new music.

Most important of all,

Finding a better WWE Title design shouldn't be too hard; just bring back the eagle that Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart and Yokozuna wore.

I've seen a variation of this belt for months, but the fact that they're already selling the new design on WWE ShopZone says to me that it won't be getting re-replaced by the spinner belt anytime soon. Perhaps Cena winning the title at WrestleMania isn't a foregone conclusion after all?

Also, I distinctly remember CM Punk promising us during the Summer of Punk that he would change the way the title looks.

The Rock's belt has the Brahma Bull logo on the side plates, while the ShopZone replica has WWE logos on the side plates. I assume that means that the champs can customize the sides without changing the face of the belt. I like that.

I also don't hate the belt as much as I thought I would from the early leaked shots. Its biggest problem is that the scratch logo is so dated. And it really doesn't look good all blinged out.

That can't be the permanent new belt design? Did they design it at a Claire's?

Maybe it's this new PC friendly WWE or I'm getting old, but did it seem like the xenophobic Swagger/Zeb angle is tip toeing around being offensive a bit too carefully? Zeb went on about foreigners crossing onto North American borders and stealing opportunities, but was afraid to just outright and say Spanish/Mexican/Latinos in particular were stealing the opportunities much like our current Heavyweight Champion ADR. The State of the Union address seemed way too vague in targeting any particular person or group to invoke a strong enough reaction from the crowd.

This showed when Swagger faced my boy D-Bry later in the night and had the usual dead reaction Swag always gets. It's weird saying this but the writers are gonna have to turn up the racism a bit if they want to get a "bloodthristy crowd" reaction for Swag by WM.

Haha at Ambrose's facial expressions and selling. Him taking baby steps while doubled over walking towards Seth Rollins after their match was the greatest!

Naomi wrestled again yes! I got a little nervous when she did the springboard to Rosa. Not because it looked shifty, but because it's been a very long time I've seen that kind of athleticism from a Diva that didn't end badly.

Run Ricardo run!

Are we going for a my boy D-Bry heel turn? I guess Vince thought "fuck the fans for sympathizing with a guy I didn't tell them to sympathize for. Damn his organic rise in popularity!! I know I'll force a unnecessary heel turn on him like I did Punk last year. That'll teach 'em". If it gets Bryan back in singles and hopefully back in the main event then I can see pulling the plug on Team Hell No.

...seriously fuck that new title belt.

I recall reading at a site or two that Vince was quite high on Bryan, and that after Hell No is done they have plans for him.

I don't mind the new design, but I really didn't like the Rock specific decals. Then again, if those are replaceable, that's pretty cool.

MARK HENRY. Yes please.

That crazy knee from the top by Rollins looks wonderful.

I Maddox in the sense that he just oozes this old school smarmy heel attitude.

I'd like to think that their discord is like the 3rd act of a romantic comedy, where the leads have gotten together but one final miscommunication drives them back apart, leading to a climactic Wrestlemania reconciliation in the rain.

Yeah, I like the idea of customizing the side plates much better than name plates and other such nonsense literally defacing the most prominent part of the belt with the other guy's name when you hold up the belt in victory.

The show was pretty meh. I never really understood the structure of announcing next week's big main event at the beginning of the show. It's like saying "Hey, here's something really cool, but it's not going to happen for the next two hours!" Like when they did the WWE Title Tournament in 2011 and postponned the finals until the week after so Rey could have a 2-hour reign instead of a 1-week reign which he also had to share with Punk at a time when there were, I guess, 3 world champions in WWE. Oh, wait. I'm ranting.

Anyway, Swagger/Del Rio looks like it could get really good. My guess is that we'll know definitively next week whether it's Rock/Cena II or Rock/Cena/Punk (my guess is depending on Undertaker interference).

I like the new belt better than the old spinner belt. Mostly just because it says "CHAMPION" instead of "CHAMP." That always really bugged me. I know it's a fake sport, but at least make it sound somewhat official.

I do wish they had some variation of a gold eagle in there somewhere. Even the Spinner and Undisputed belts payed reverence to that classic part of the design somewhere. This new one just screams "BRANDING!"

But I still like it better. Really. The Spinner belt had to go. It's solid, it's less noisy with the "bling" adding to the design rather than distracting from it. It's defined, I know what it looks like from a farther distance away.

I just wish it was Punk who got to bring it in.

And I just don't like the imminent threat of Cena bringing his belt back if he wins.

One more thing:

"It damn sure doesn't SPIN." Well, yeah, it hasn't spun since 2007, meaning the belt Rock tossed aside tonight wasn't the one he was wearing the night before.

It looks like Punk could be entered into the Rock/Cena match and I still think Ziggler is in the WHC match. Has there been two three-way title matches on WM before?

If Taker can work at all, but not a singles match, then why not Shield vs. Hell No Taker? It would give Shield vs. Hell No a more important feel for WM, I don't think a pin by Taker at WM would hurt the Shield and it can all lead to the Shield getting the tag titles the night after WM. Or, maybe I'm crazy to suggest this, should The Shield be the ones that finally beat the streak?

Punk deserves the third spot in that main event, if UT is unable to go. If they can find a way to make HHH/Brock not mindnumbingly dull I might actually get excited about this stuff again.

You are not crazy, but for the Undertaker to lose, it should be a huge moment in a singles match. I fear with his health and each passing day, he is going to go 25-0 and retire undefeated. At this point, the time for him to lose would have been last year to Punk - not HHH. I don't think he has a good match in him left, but I have been wrong before.

Life is hilariously cruel.

I have come to realize that with no Undertaker match WrestleMania starts to feel a lot like Summer Slam. For better or worse this has become one of the highlights of my wrestling calendar year. A nice big gimmick match would help. They never should have moved MitB? Either way I have come to rely on the overly dramatic, can he keep the streak alive, can he still put on a quality match, holycrap this suddenly like a much bigger match than everything else on the card. The Undertaker feels no pain... But apparently he feels age and so do I.

There also has to be a better way of getting us to Brock/HHH without making Heyman look Luke a stammering chicken shit every time he runs into Vince.

Is Brad Maddox's skin made out of something different than you and I?

I really enjoy The Shield's style I am just not sure where they are headed long term.
