Ok, so here's the go-home show for the PPV and The E needs to pimp out a new main event! What do you do? What DO you do?

If your answer is "Don't feature anyone in the main event until five minutes before the show is over," then congratulations! YOU can be a writer for The E!

Yes, aside from an admittedly-cool video segment with the Shield, none of the Shield guys, Hell No, or Ryback appeared until the overrun. So what DID we have?

Well, we had Sheamus facing Dolph Ziggler. Never seen that before. How about John Cena facing The Big Show? That's a fresh match, right? No? Ok, how about Alberto Del Rio squashing Zack Ryder? Oh, that's been done, too. Um...

Fine then, we DID have a four-way tag match for the right to face Car Sterio for the right to face Hell No! Why did Car Sterio automatically advance to the PPV? Stop asking so many questions, you! Anyway, it was Team Rhodes Scholars (with a returning and mustachioed Cody Rhodes), The Usos, The Prime Time Losers, and Epico & Primo. The Usos eliminated both the Puerto Ricans and the PTL's, with the Losers getting eliminated DURING THE BREAK, just to REALLY hammer home how little this company thinks of them. The Rhodes Scholars won this one after Cody countered a Jey Superfly Splash and hit Cross-Rhodes.

We also had Kofi Kingston and Antonio Cesaro in a Champion vs. Champion match. Why make people pay money for such a cool idea when you could throw it out there for free as a throwaway match? A lot of resting and little crowd heat, but Cesaro brings the awesome at the end of the match, catching Kofi's top-rope crossbody and turning it into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker! That looked DAMN impressive! Neutralizer was academic. Cesaro is just incredible and I'm baffled as to why he's not getting over with the live crowds!

Then there was MizTV featuring the Rhodes Scholars. Holy breadsticks, I really, REALLY cannot emphasize enough how putrid Miz is in this babyface role! I mean, YE GODS! "I mustache you a question..." Oh, and that's before the GAY HUMOR starts! WHO'S WRITING HIS SCHTICK? He couldn't possibly be coming up with that material himself, can he? Sandow's awesomeness couldn't save this one. They need to hit the ABORT button on this Miz babyface run, pronto!

Vince McMahon came out in the second segment, just to put himself on TV before the masses switched to the Patriots/Texans game. He booked AJ vs. Vickie Guerrero. And if you think I'm going to dignify that match with any response, you've got another thing coming.

CM Punk came out to deliver a promo on crutches. We see the surgically repaired knee to silence any doubters, as Punk moves past Ryback and begins hyping the Rock match for the Rumble next month.

Nothing else notable until the end, where The Shield came out and attacked John Cena...for some reason. I say "for some reason," because all signs are pointing to Punk being the man behind them and Punk's LONG past done with Cena. The only way this makes sense is if we get the swerve and it turns out Vickie was behind them the entire time as a way to try and smear Punk and Heyman, for funsies. Anyway, this led to run-ins from Ziggler, Hell No, Sheamus, and Ryback. Cool spot during the Ryback run-in saw Ryback hurl a ladder right at all three Shield guys and nail them in the face simultaneously! Other than that, it's your standard brawl to end the show.

Hey, remember when 3MB was starting to catch on? Yeah, I can see why they immediately stopped getting airtime.

And that's all I got. This show is going to get KILLED by Monday Night Football this week.

Until next time! Take us home, Bray Wyatt!

Well, technically because Rey couldn't be at TV. But Rey did pin Daniel Bryan.

I have a question. How come ever since he went to prom with Nikki Bella, Cena isn't so into AJ anymore? There's been a drastic rewrite of this angle tonally where AJ and Cena aren't two unrequited starcrossed heroes anymore, AJ's back to "AJ luvs Punk" mode and Cena's like "yikes over there, hoo boy. :-/"

Granted, it's better this way. It's also probably so Cena looks like less of a putz when AJ's unwanted help accidentally costs him MITB.

I have a few random theories on that.

One, his music is terrible. Every time I hear the beginning I think someone has made a muzak remix of "Goldfinger". Hell, maybe it is a muzak remix of "Goldfinger" for all I know.

Two, his mannerisms are terrible. I'm not sure who approved his goofy little arm pump motion, but it's not connecting with the crowd. When he first raises his arm I think he's about to do a Nation of Domination salute. (And it doesn't help that his finish is similar to Faarooq's Dominator).

Three, it is possible that crowds are finally burnt out on the "I'm a foreign dude and I totally hate America!" shtick that's been thrown out there by wrestling companies since the Nixon administration.

Four, the whole metrosexual angle they're shooting for ("Ha ha! Antonio wears a man-purse!") doesn't work when the viewer then sees him in the ring working a stiff as hell match and holding his own with the likes of Sheamus. Either they go full-on Adorable Adrian Adonis on him or they just drop it.

I would say let Cesaro do his airplane spin from his indy/ROH days and he'll connect with the crowds, but it's probably best saved for if he ever goes on a babyface run in the future.

I think if there was ever a time when Vince wanted to fast forward to Mania season now is the time. Punk is injured, their storylines are going nowhere and the ratings are shit. I am pretty sure Rock has confirmed he is coming in sooner than later, so maybe that will help the show. Now, its just there like a dead deer on the side of the road.

Interesting that Miz skipped Goldust when telling Cody who eclipsed him. Almost as interesting as Cody shifting from Doctor Doom to Howard Stark. Miz's jacket was inexcusable. Remember when he was the WWE's fashion beast during his title run?

Was the ability of the audience to predict the order of the melee entrants a sign they were that locked in or that the finale was too predictable? Ziggler had as big a night as he could without cashing in the MITB last night, book-ending the show on the mic AND acquitting himself very well with Cole.

I don't get Vince's interaction with Vickie. It feels weird and seems to only draw out the show. Can't Vince work face against Punk anymore? Why waste heat against Vickie, who is already a boo machine in AJ's home territory?

Miz's Pacquiao line was pretty sweet, I gotta admind. I may be in the minority, but I really enjoyed that segment. The rest of the show...not so much.

I gotta admit, the Shield video segments are very nWo-esque, but that's not a bad thing. I loved those promos back in the 90s.

I quite like Cesario's theme music, but I'm not sure why they switched from the fast paced ska-ish music to what he has now.

Where are they going with Brad Maddox?

As juvenile as it was, I also liked the "I mustache you a question" line too. Still not totally buying Miz as a face, but it was better than last week. I expect he will turn heel after Mick's book sales even off, if they haven't already.

They actually foreshadowed it on commentary. Ziggler at one point said that Cena getting as many opportunities as he did was an 'injustice'. Is Dolph calling the shots for the Shield? Was that just a coincidence? Or does the Shield sit backstage and watch the show, listening for any signs of injustice with which to interfere, and Ziggler inadvertantly gave them a reason to run in?

Dolph did sit back at the commentary table seemingly unfazed while Cole and Lawler were suggesting he bail out and hide..

Other things. It's nice that Raw is finally airing in Canada only 15 minutes late rather than a full hour late. I'm still not going to try to write three hour recaps. And one thing that I like about the Shield is how whenever they attack, the camerawork changes from the hard camera shot to a more 'shakycam' feel as the cameramen run around and aren't sure where to position themselves and on some occasions have to get out of the way. It helps add to the "these guys aren't supposed to be here" feel, like we first saw with the Nexus way back when.

Did anyone else spot the Big O in the crowd for the Ryder match?

I imagine the Shield hover over every arena in their own helicarrier, monitoring each WWE show with their InjustAlerts until an injustice is spotted, at which case they rappel into the arena and spring into action.

If Percy Watson is some day revealed as the eyepatch-wearing honcho of the Shield, I'll be the happiest guy ever.

For me, it's the whole metrosexual thing. It kinda freaks me out. Or maybe not metrosexual, just weirdly EUROPEAN. Does no one else find it strange that from the belly button down, he's all furry? It's so damn distracting. I keep thinking, "Why would a guy wax his chest and not his stomach?" So I assume it's some sex thing I don't get, and then I get uncomfortable. I think I'm a pretty forward-thinking guy in regular life, but I imagine to the average rasslin' fan, he just comes off as somewhat gay.

Yea, I thought it really worked well here to make the ending of the show feel more chaotic then usual. It feels like watching camera phone video, and I wouldn't want the whole show to look that way but it works in small doses.

Were Reigns and Ambrose running late to the ring? Rollins gets there, punches Cena, looks around bewildered that he's alone, goes back to punching, then Ambrose shoves him off Cena (???) so he can punch Cena himself, so weird.

The chaotic feel is cool, except when Cole kept yelling "LOOK OUT!" for some reason. Look out for what?

I think they messed something up or missed a cue at the end as far as the chaotic feeling goes, since Cole yelled "Look out!", paused for a few seconds, then yelled "Look out!" again in the same manner, like there was either supposed to be a big moment there or he thought they were going to cut to black right after he yelled it.

This version of Miz is the worst. Like, maybe worse than wacky face Sheamus was, which is kind of amazing. The ideal face Miz would be a plucky underdog who keeps getting murdered but comes back, like when he came back out in that Money In The Bank match. But a Miz who just gives out terrible insults and then reacts like he just destroyed the guy...wow, I don't think that the wrestling world is ready for an anti-comedy face.

Cesaro is getting over by the end of each of his matches. He's doing it through sheer in-ring performance. The problem is, they have nobody for him to work against to give his character any direction or a worthwhile feud, which means he has to win each crowd over again every time he comes out. He and Barrett are essentially doing the same gimmick (tough guy heel) with Kofi as the only plucky face to work against for either of them that people are meant to have a reason to care about. If they hadn't ruined Ryder, a Ryder/Cesaro feud would be ideal. If they'd at all gone anywhere with the incredibly brief Kidd push, Cesaro/Kidd seems like something that could be amazing. If Christian still existed, Cesaro/Christian would have plenty of potential.

As it stands, stop letting Miz talk and just have Cesaro beat him to death every week with Miz somehow hanging in. Maybe have Miz get his jaw wired shut after eating a Swiss Death (which has now become the single move I care about seeing every week).

Also, when one of them eventually turns, Cesaro and Ziggler are going to have a crazy Free TV Match Of The Year.

EDITED TO ADD: I'd like to claim my "Look out!" post coming right after kentish bring up the same was an homage to Cole rather than weird timing.

How do you not like the arm cannon motions?! Ceasaro's all like "I am a WW2 anti aircraft cannon! Screw you high flyer! Ba-kow! Ba-Kow!"

I agree with the anti-american foreigner gimmick weighing him down. That's been done since I started watching in the 80's and has been done in a much better and more antagonistic way. No one will ever surpass The Bluebloods in the foreign snob genre of wrestling. The metrosexual thing is a weak attempt at heel heat too seeing as I can go to a coffee shop in a popular part of my city where the hipsters hang, or go to my school's campus and run into at least five guys dressed like Cesaro within an hour.

They should of kept playing up the Rugby rule breaker aspect of his gimmick. Let Cesaro talk up how he's a pure old school tough guy catch-can wrestler who doesn't even have to throw a punch to win a match. Then as soon as things get tough in the match he uses unnecessary roughness like the ear pulling, biting, choking with foreign objects, etc to gain a victory. Then as soon as he pulls that brawler/rulebreaker tactics on another legit brawler like Shaemus or Cena and realizes he is overwhelmed Cesaro tries to get himself disqualified on purpose. Boom, tough guy foreigner and cowardly bruiser all in one motion.

I actually did like The Miz tv skit too, but not for Miz. His face turn sucks. However Sandow, the triumphant return of Cody Rhodes, and the hilarious "Cody's Moustache" chant had me howling in laughter. How did Miz get his hand on Laurinitis' Wrestlemania Col. Sanders attire anyway? A gift for helping him become Raw GM before being fired I guess?

Here's hoping that this AJ/Vickie story leads to AJ having a revelation that she has relied on fickle men too often since starting in this company and it has taken her eye off of her main ambition: To become the main female face of the company, and all these relationships becoming dirty laundry to be aired in front of thousands has caused her detrimental mental state.

Yes, it's very distracting. From his disproportionally large nipples, to his fur, down to the thigh tape, I can't really focus on the wresting. Plus his finisher looks really weak. The catch of Kofi was really sweet and so the Neutralizer was academic, but it's right up there with the AA as far as impact goes. Love the name, hate the move.

For what it's worth, I have thoroughly enjoyed RAW lately, and that has everything to do with watching it with my girls (in 3rd and 1st grade). They love darn near everyone, especially Damien Sandow, Funkasaurus, Santino, and RyBack. The older one has a huge crush on Zack Ryder and about lost it when I showed her his entrance (followed by a BURNING hatred of Del Rio at the end of the match). She will repeatedly execute the "elbow of disdain" on the floor (making me think I'm watching Ric Flair). She'll also do the Cesaro 'arm cannons' and even has inquired to what Tensai is up to lately. We were at the recent Smackdown taping prior to Survivor Series, and they both cheered from start to finish, holding up the signs they had made. The younger lost it when Del Rio entered in his car. When Big Show entered, holding his title high, I looked over and saw my youngest holding her title belt up too. For Christmas my wife and I even managed to locate Zack Ryder and Santino action figures for them.

In other words, a new generation of wrestling fans has definitely been cultivated. I love the memories we have generated together over the last couple of months. As both of my girls now say, "In the words of Damien Sandow, 'You're Welcome.'"

This mirrors a lot of my own experience w/my kids. However, they usually only get to watch the shows on Sat/Sun mornings after I've either seen the shows or read about them here so I sort of know what to fast forward thru for either risque or boring reasons.
