Our company...for a group that broke sales records every single month, put on a pretty crappy, cheap Christmas party. The food was generic Christmas party (salmon, roast beef, turkey carvery, overly sweet deserts. There were no door prizes, no draws, nothing. There was unlimited free alcohol. All in all, it was pretty bad.

The room they booked was too small for the amount of people who attended, and the DJ tried to hard to be a comedian: dressing like Elvis for some skits, then as Bryan Adams for another. And...who's bright idea was it to have karaoke? I was dared to go up and sing: I did Achy Breaky Heart.

At least the company offered free taxi rides to and from home, which worked out well to our advantage. We managed to get home in time for the Pacquiao fight.

So...here's hoping there are those here who have had kickass parties. Or those had worse?

Our Christmas party is generally held in mid-February, in a town 45 miles away because my company is too cheap to have 2 parties for offices that are 90 miles part. Paid bar, bland chicken, green beans and a weird strawberry cheesecake pie thing every year (except the 4 years we had *nothing.*)

The takeaway - never work in local media.

I work in a call center, with about 100 people give or take. We had a decent, but limited spread for dinner, open bar. A DJ who actually went around the room during dinner to take requests, which was nice, instead of just doing the standard same old music BS.
They had a photo booth set up, which was cool. We always get a t-shirt every winter or summer at the party they have, so at least we all got "gifts".
The funny thing was, working with no face to face customers, you never get a sense of how people dress in their private time. I didn't know I worked with so many people with questionable fashion sense.

Either way, with a 3 month old at home, it was nice to get a night out, dinner and drinks, and dancing, and not have to pay a dime for it.

Our company decided for whatever reason NOT to have a Christmas party this year. So it was the BEST COMPANY CHRISTMAS PARTY EVER.

I work in a small department that just does a department lunch. It's nice.

In my radio days, man we had some disasters. One year, two stations in town where one was owned by a father and the other his son combined parties. Aside from the relation, we were completely separate operations and competitors. It was held in a big space at a local hotel with about a dozen long cafeteria-style tables.

The full-time staff of Station A sat at one table, the full-time staff at Station B sat at another on the other side of the room, and the part-timers of both stations sat together at a third table somewhere in between.

I was full-time at Station A, but decided to sit with the part-timers, which actually pissed off our program director and apparently had others on the staff talking.

The one memory of that party I'll always have was when our program director went to the radio, which was playing Station B, to turn it to our station. He was drunk enough that while turning the knob to the right, he kept leaning further right, and eventually just fell over.

Ironically, I eventually ended up part-timing for Station B while still working full-time at Station A, which was an unheard of concept at the time.

I haven't been to our company Christmas party in at least 3 or 4 years. It's this Thursday but my daughter's high school Holiday Concert is at the same time.

Our health system hasn't done real Christmas parties for a few years now. We sponsor local families for gifts and meals for the holidays instead. I wholeheartedly endorse this policy.

Last night, my wife and I attended her company's Christmas party, and it was everything my company's wasn't. Great food, door prizes, draws, a live band, two (!) photo booths, all immaculately set up in a gorgeous, LARGE banquet hall with great natural lighting and ambiance.

Only two real complaints, however:

1: The live band SUCKED - their tech really didn't know the idea of volume control...their music choice was kinda crappy, and they didn't sing a single ballad during their two hour plus set. At least the girls in the band were hot.

2: The location was quite a distance out of the way. The company was paying for taxis home, so I could imagine that it would end up costing them an arm and a leg. To put it into perspective, the taxi company quoted us about $45 to $50 to drive us THERE if we didn't get a ride.

and finally, the alcohol was expensive, but who cares...I don't drink.

The prizes were pretty sweet: I won a really nice tea set and my wife won a $50 gift card.

So yeah, light years ahead of what my company put together.

What Christmas Party? Which is odd since we do one at the main office which I go to grudgingly, get my ridiculous Christmas card which has about 100 in cash and 200 in gift cards. Last year they did a very nice party and went out to see Hairspray the still did the card. This year, we got Christmas Eve and New Years off which would be fine, but I already planed for Christmas Eve off, so I took last Friday off which was me and the kid running around which saved me daycare for the day. I may have gotten a card, but who knows. I'd rather have the card, but I am only working 9 days in the next three weeks, so It sorta works out.

I got stuck running errands and covering a story, so by the time I got there, advertising (the main beneficiaries of it, really) were packing up the food and they had already taken a picture.

Upon further review (AKA tasting the food), I didn't miss much.

I think I would have preferred cash and gift cards over my company'sparty.

All in all, I'm embarrassed by the "efforts" of the planners.

Or this guy and his wife can acknowledge that Mother's day is simply a Hallmark holiday, whereas his sister's graduation is an actual personal accomplishment worth celebrating.
