Wait, didn't Jean Grey explode Professor X into teeny tiny Xavier bits all over her bedroom in The Last Stand? Professor X is dead. Dead. Dead. I guess they're ignoring that? The Last Stand isn't continuity? X1 and X2 aren't in continuity? Is this confirmation finally that First Class started a brand new X-movie continuity?
And what about (The) Wolverine? Hmm...

Remember the credits scene where Xavier transported his mind to that braindead guy behind Moira McTaggert??
Continuity problems? In a comic book property? NO WAY!
I'm guessing the First Class gang travels to a future where either Xavier did not get disintegrated or it's waaaaay past X-Men 3 and his mind has been pulled out of the old man (from the post-credits sequence) and put back in his body somehow.
They can have pretty much change anything with time travel. They can even change it around that X-3 never happened. The real mind bender may come that all the continuity errors in First Class was due to them jumping now.
Considering Singer is back, it wouldn't shock me to see Hugh Jackman in this thing either along with the rest of the original X-Men cast.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.Twitter: @realjoecarfley its a bit more toned down there. A bit.

At the start of The Last Stand, Prof X is clearly shown walking in the flashback. At the end of First Class, Prof X lost his ability to walk as a young man. Continuity was already broken before you try to get DoFP involved.

Not to mention in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Prof X was bald and walking so.....

I totally want this to end with Magneto and Xavier watching a tv powered by a mutant who has some what-if ability to show alternate timelines. Not unlike Farnsworth watching what would have happened if he invented the Finglonger.

Has this been confirmed? I mean, obviously, yes, we all know it's gonna happen. But I don't recall hearing "official" word it's a done deal. Even though, come on, of course Hugh Jackman will be in the movie. And not just to say "Go fuck yourselves."

Aintitcool had it up a few days ago, I believe. I am now more psyched for this than Avengers 2.

Aint It Cool reported what everyone else was saying at the time, that Hugh Jackman was "in talks" to reprise Wolverine in DOFP. Not that it was official. Again, not that it matters. He's gonna be in the movie, unless the Mayans kill us all or some shit like that.

Because I'm a total internet genius who is never wrong and could totally write better X-Men movies than long-time Hollywood professionals who are paid loads of money to do that kind of thing, I still think the whole franchise could have been 1,000-times better and more profitable had they been a little more loyal to the source material.
Of the three original movies, X1 needs the least amount of change. Still, if they had "Pryde of the X-Men"-ed it by, like, 21% it would have not only given them a more linear narrative but one from which they could really make some fan- and general audience-friendly movies.
After X1, mutants are known. So if the premise for X2 is the X-Men/Brotherhood team-up, then you could totally have introduced some sort of sentinel program they all had to fight against.
And if X3 is about...well, I have no idea...but I think a Apocalypse/Mr. Sinister arc could have tied the first three together, ending with a vision similar to the one Professor X had on the series finale of X-Men: Evolution, where he sees all these alternative realities from having contact with Apocalypse's mind. And from that vision we get...X-Men: ___ (because I wouldn't have subtitled the first three movies), a trilogy of movies that is based on the premises of the first three, not necessarily in continuity with them:
XM: Weapon X—Playing off X1 being driven by Wolverine's arc and ending with him diving out of a plane (or receiving the order) to fight some big green behemoth allegedly terrorizing the Canadian wilderness.
XM: Days of Future Past—Here is where you could have had this movie, envisioning a scenario in which the sentinel program survived and led to a dystopian future.
And finally, XM: Age of Apocalypse—Here, Hollywood, go nuts with all the incongruities and explosions and giant mechanical spiders you love and want.
But alas, it's all just fantasy booking that will never happen.
