Ok, the Monday Night Football game looked like a huge stinker on paper, so I gave Raw a shot this week.

Guess what? It was actually pretty good! Well...for the most part. The angles are still ten kinds of awful, but the wrestling was pretty top-notch.

Surprisingly, we got Cena/Dolph one-on-one. It was a really good match, featuring a really close near-fall for Dolph, as Cena's injured knee acted up and Dolph hit the Zig Zag for a very close 2! Cena looked to finish, but his knee acted up again, getting the attention of the ref and the trainer. Dolph took this time to undo the turnbuckle pad, which brought out AJ, which in turn brought out Vickie. The ref was distracted by the women, so Dolph took a swing with the briefcase and missed. AA, goodbye. So for those keeping track at home, Dolph had the benefit of Cena's knee injury, an exposed turnbuckle, Vickie and AJ running distraction, the briefcase...and STILL lost clean! Rise Above Hate, everybody! On the upside, this decisive win HAS to mean this feud's over and we never, ever have to speak of this angle again!

Right? Please tell me I'm right.

But the good wrestling didn't stop there. This week's Twitter poll asked which of Hell No would face CM Punk tonight. Kane won the poll in a landslide. You mean jobbing Daniel Bryan in two-minute matches twice a week leads to people not buying him as a threat? Imagine that! This led to Daniel Bryan facing Rey Mysterio in another good match, which Rey won clean with the 619 and Snitches Get Stitches Dropping the Dime.

Sheamus beat Antonio Cesaro by countout after the Brogue Kick in an easy Match of the Night. These two stiffed the shit out of each other, including Cesaro destroying Sheamus by catching the top-rope Irish Missile with the European uppercut! That was vicious! Big Show came out after the Brogue Kick, but it was too late, as Cesaro was knocked silly on the outside. Show broke a steel chair to pieces for fun. Cesaro looked great here and as soon as Sheamus is done with Big Show, I'd love to see him and Cesaro have a nice long feud.

Ryback beat Titus O'Neil decisively. O'Neil hit the Clash of the Titus and got a one-count off it, because who cares if the Prime Time Losers get their finishers killed, right? Shell Shock, see ya.

Show ended with CM Punk facing Kane. This was a really good main event and probably the best Kane match in months. The Shield (Rollins, Ambrose, and Reigns) ran interference from the crowd leading to Punk hitting the GTS for the pin. The Shield beat down Kane afterwards. Daniel Bryan made the save, but got a beatdown for his troubles. Ryback ran in and made progress, but got caught up with Punk, leading to the third Shield beatdown of Ryback. The Shield's interview with Cole emphasized that they weren't affiliated with Punk, but this appears to say otherwise.

TLC card so far:
CM Punk vs. Ryback in a TLC match, announced by Vickie after the Ryback opener
Sheamus vs. Big Show in a Chairs match
Kofi Kingston vs. Wade Barrett for the IC title

Hmm...can anyone really picture this PPV selling when everyone can already see the ending of the TLC match coming?

Until next time! Take us home, Zack Ryder!

Jesus, even his tweets are depressing.

I think I typo'd Punk's 365 last week and this is actually day 372. I'd hate to screw us up for the rest of the reign.

Lots of good long TV matches in lieu of the usual Raw try-hard crap BUT FOR TWO THINGS

1) Dolph Ziggler beats Randy Orton clean twice and injures John Cena's knee to set up ............... his clean loss to Cena on Raw a week later. Got it.

2) haha the Shield guys are really gonna wear those uniforms? Team '99 Big Bossman?

Also, if Miz beating Ryder in the fan poll didn't raise an eyebrow a couple weeks ago, after this you never need to believe in a Twitter poll again. They're scripted like everything else. The point of them is, then, I don't know.

I would like to single out Sheamus/Cesaro for praise. THE UPPERCUT. Pleasantly surprised to see the count-out too since secondary champ + long match with main eventer almost always spells doom since they think their thought process is that they're elevated in a clean loss just by going back and forth.

Thank god Fandango's vignettes are back. The man is a hero.

If the red states can't beat the blue states in real life, Vince will book it that way on his show.

You seriously think The Miz is less popular than Zack Ryder? Seriously? I mean, I get it, you like the guy and all, but he's way, way past his shelf life. I think the ONLY reason he might still have a job at this point is because he sold Vince on the 'Internet Thing' and social media.

It's just like the old call-in shows that WCW used to do (on pre-taped shows, no less). They want you to feel like you're part of the show, but under no circumstances do they actually want you to be part of the show. The truth is, I actually preferred their pre-scripted booking. While Bryan/Punk would have been a great match, we have seen it before, more than once. We wound up with two good, fresh matches instead.

So, TNA rips off Sons of Anarchy and now WWE is ripping off literally the Shield. When does Kurt Sutter get a piece of the pie. Ryback/Punk at TLC should lead to the end of the Ryback run. I am not sure what the point was of putting Ziggler/Cena on free TV and have Cena win.

This Cena and AJ thing is kind of working for me, I don't know why. Also, the one moment I LOL'd last night was when Dolph said when AJ was kissing Cena, "she was thinking of ME!" Classic heel.

If this were the 90's, these attacks on The Ryback by The Shield would somehow result in The Ryback turning and joining The Shield. The Ryback would be a great tank for The Shield, although it looks like they already have Roman Reigns to serve that purpose.

Dean Ambrose has... something. He has that arrogant looking face you just want to see punched in. Mick Foley would probably agree.

The Shield (from Injustice) concept is in its early weeks and will evolve over time, but it was a smooth move for Ambrose to declare on the outset that they're not the nWo (a gang of outsiders) and not The Nexus (NXT as terrorists/attempting a takeover). The Shield, so far, is about a cloudy set of principles they've yet to spell out.

If I didn't know any better with the whole "honor" thing that it would legit be an ROH aluminus faction, but Reigns wouldn't qualify.

Ambrose was as advertised, they'll be able to print money with him. And I was very impressed with Rollins during the promo. Reigns didn't say much, but with the other two he really doesn't have to, and he cuts an imposing figure.

One *might* be able to say that Miz could beat Ryder in a poll (unlikely) but there's zero way Bryan should have lost that poll. Period.

Is Roman Reigns related to Luther Reigns, storyline?

ETA: I'm a fool and don't keep up with the current roster, unless Luther was adopted by the Anoa'i family and it was never brought up.

I haven't watched RAW in a long ass time, so I had to google to discover that Cesaro is Claudio Castagnoli!

Glad to hear in the recap that he is still apparently European upper-cutting the hell outta people.

I am pretty comfortable saying that Miz, a heel, was less popular on Twitter than the man with his own Twitter army, even an embattled one. But it was plausible that Miz could've won because people were interested in seeing the heel join the face team. But like the Nastio said, it's not plausible that Kane beat Daniel Bryan 3:2, especially when they announced during the show that Bryan was a-trendin'.

Yes but those polls were skewed and red won handily. Just like IRL?

Here's the whackest part. Original advertised card in Brooklyn was

Punk vs. Ryback, tables match
Cena vs. Ziggler, TLC match

so one guaranteed great match and one mediocre match.

Now it's

Punk vs. Ryback, TLC match
and I'm going to guess Cena/AJ vs. Ziggler/Tamina in a mixed tables match

so you have no great matches and an even harder match for Ryback to pull off.

Yeah. I called poll shenanigans two Raws back when Miz (a unflappable heel who had been going through a consistent losing streak for a year, and was wading in a mix of fan apathy and antipathy) won in popularity over lovable losers Santino and Ryder. Kane winning in a landslide over my boy D-Bry in popularity in 2012 is impossible. I'm sorta with Tenken347 on this as I don't want casual fans affecting my wrestling shows based off of the impulse voting that is "RAWactive", but I despise that WWE proposes freedom of choice based on fan choice and so obviously force the end result. It reminds me of why I hate politics, then gives me self-loathing knowing that's all that goes on in the WWE and I continue to watch.

I don't care for Shaemus as a character, but MAN! I love every match where he is in with an opponent that will work a stiffer style with him. Barret, my boy D-Bry, Tensai, and now Cesaro. I hope they push through this Big Show storyline soon and give Shaemus more of those guys to work with.

To paraphrase Chris Rock in Jay and Silent Bob strike back......."Kurt Sutter is gonna sue somebody!" I'm very pleased that Ambrose and Rollins finally made it on the main shows. The Shield (from injustice) and the flak jackets are kinda silly, but the gimmick is just a way in the door. Plus Ambrose can talk people into buying snow suits in Jamaica. You want the NWO go buy the DVD.

This was a great Raw. I kinda enjoy the Cena/AJ/Dolph storyline for what it is. As some have discussed, I do actually think this is leading to the surprise reveal that AJ and Dolph did have a fling before the Cena relationship started.

I love Dolph in this role. He acts like a cocky heel in very public moments, but seems more real in the quieter moments. I'm talking mostly about his and AJ's confrontation in the lockerroom last week. Ultimately, this angle keeps Cena out of the title picture, and therefore I say keep it going.

The wrestling was very good, especially Sheamus and my boy Cesaro. Holy cow that uppercut...it brought me back to the days of watching him in Philly on CZW shows. I hope he becomes a huge star.

Finally, the Shield angle gets a good start, especially due to Ambrose. I think this group has great potential, as long as Seth Rollins eventually gets his hair to be one color. He looks like such a goof.

That interview with the Shield..Ambrose was hitting it out of the park. His mannerisms when he wasn't talking, the way he looked at Cole. This is a guy that knows his character well and knows how to work people.
Rollins was solid too, I didn't expect that/don't remember him doing decent mic work.
Reigns, obviously the 'strong silent type' but with the cut off sleeves and big arms he can pull that off.

A good Raw. Great wrestling. Everyone's mentioning Cesaro's uppercut. But what about that move where he went from a torture rack to a sort of front slam. That looked awesome.

I don't care much about the poll. I'm sure it's rigged though. The way Bryan predicted his win, the awesome Rey-Bryan match AND the fact that this gave Punk a clean win over a big guy (to prove he isn't just lucky/sneaky against Ryback) is just too much coincidence.

And John, you might want AJ in her shorts..I admit I prefer her outfit from last night. Those jeans and that tight little shirt. Oh my.

Not sure what to think of The Shield yet, if only because I'm not sure they've decided what the angle is yet. Interested to watch Ambrose, though. They accidentally visually hinted at it last week when Punk kept shooting them looks from the steps, but I wish they'd remember to mention that Punk does have some plausible deniability in this angle, having been the other guy in the ring who got annihilated as collateral damage when the Nexus made their debut.

Most surreal thing of the show, maybe of the entire year: Lawler, of all people, causally noting - with no context or build-up - that Rey Misterio isn't his name but "Spanish for Mysterious King!" That came from nowhere. Did Mike Tenay hijack the feed to their headsets for a minute?

Yep. Sheamus the wacky fun-lovin' fella is one of the worst things in the company. But Sheamus the foitin' machine is right behind Punk and Bryan as the best thing they have, and the way he's presented in those matches with Barrett and the like are ideal.

This was a GREAT match for Cesaro, too. Really strong booking, made him look totally on par with Sheamus and did more for him than all of his matches before this. If they decide they want to get behind him, this proved he can be a star.

They've actually been mentioning this a lot over on Smackdown for the last few months. Along with his current ring gear, featuring a question mark wearing a crown, and this is something they've been trying to focus on for a while now. Not entirely sure why.
