I'm with Kevin. This is the kind of stuff they used to do all the time. This isn't too far, it was practically expected of them.

The video package on the other hand...well, that was creepy.

That was my immediate thought. I wished I had the tape from the night to examine Jerry for continuity because I can't even conceive that they actually had such a "staged looking" tight shot on the ambulance leaving in a real situation. That looked like every ambulance angle I have ever seen - and if that is real footage, now I wander back to - was all that possibly a very elaborate angle they pushed on us marks? For a guy who had a grabber, Jerry's face and body didn't change a bit.

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

I think it's more likely the camera people were ordered to tape everything in case of a wrongful death lawsuit down the line. It seems unlikely there would've been one in this situation, but WWE has been thru enough deaths that their reflex is to make sure they can defend themselves later in these situations.

How many deaths has WWE been trough? I only remember Owen Hart's. All the others died at home or elsewhere.

Eddie Guerrero and Brian Pillman did die in hotel rooms and not in the arena, and Chris Benoit died at home, but the fallout from all of their (and other) deaths greatly affect how they reacted to Lawler's near death experience.

If anybody here watched Memphis Wrestling throughout the territories days, your know this isn't even an angle that would be out of place. Trying to run people down with cars, making fun of a wrestlers Hydrocephalic newborn, a few blinding angles. This is par for the course, especially considering Lawler booked Memphis for six month stretches at a time. He's done worse and he's booked worse.

I brought this up to Scott Bowden yesterday and he thought this was worse because it was tied to a real-life incident.

I'd still put it on a par with drunk Lawler on his lawn, Jerry Jarrett crying about not being able to protect Jeff from Bill and Buddy and so on ...

WON is reporting Lawler was totally fine with it, and it was planned weeks ago. To sum up what others have said; they went Memphis.

Is there ANY reason to believe, that Lawler himself didnt SCRIPT it?

I think they went too far, but not for the reasons you might imagine.
I'm not offended at their making fun of Jerry Lawler, I'm offended at their (Vince, Trips, Steph) insistence that they make all their decisions by listening to their fans

YET

They continue to shove John Cena down our throats, and scrape any glory they can for him (oh look he's defending Bret Hart, oh look he's promoting Ryback, oh look he's RISING ABOVE CANCER! Nobody likes Cancer!).
Even through all the boos, John Cena is YOUR hero.

CM Punk on the other hand, has consistent support to be the man but they're trying so hard for you not to like him. Because it doesn't matter that you like him, just like Zack Ryder, he's not the one they want you to like. Their plans matter more than the actual preferences of their audience. CM Punk is a dick to Mick Foley, disrespects Bret Hart in Canada, associates with the maligned Heyman and (we predicted this would happen weeks ahead of time) MAKES FUN OF JERRY LAWLER ALMOST DYING. What an asshole! Amirite WWE Universe? Isn't this guy such a dick?

Why? Does Vince or Creative or whoever just have such a fragile ego at this point that they can't admit that what they're doing is not working and they should do what they purport to do... listen to the audience? I don't know. Whatever it is, it's pathetic.

EDIT: I might seem to be off-topic, but what I'm saying is that CM Punk making fun of Jerry's near-death is symptomatic of this backwards policy WWE is taking towards Cena and Punk.

I thought when they went for the commercial break before the 6 man that it meant we would get more than a few minutes. But it still only got about 4, but it was good while it lasted I guess.
