As Marvel's done nothing wrong with their first wave of movies, I assume this will be good.
The article says that Edgar Wright wanted a light hearted movie (back in 2010) but tbh I think I'd enjoy a somewhat darker Pym more..you know..the one that has a tainted history with the Wasp.

I do not know of this tainted history with The Wasp. He slapped her once while having a mental breakdown and has been forgiven by her multiple times. Everything seems hunky-dory yo me.

The domestic violence was amped up in the Ultimates, which has been a big inspiration for the Marvel movie plotlines and character designs.

I don't think these things should be brought up at all since these movies should be kept as fun popcorn movies. Especially for a character as inherently silly as Ant-Man, I think it would really kill the fun vibe that Marvel Studios has developed.

I haven't seen every Edgar Wright directed movie, but every one I have seen has been highly enjoyable. Scott Pilgrim is still one of my top 5 favorite movies of the new Millennium (if not my favorite), so I'm very excited for this regardless of the "tone."

Then again, beating up Wasp is all that is known for besides being the go to scientist when all the good ones are out of town or a skrull. It could be a fun film, but Marvel has been known to throw a little darkness in these films, but I doubt they would go that far. To be fair, I think he lends himself as well as Wasp to the S.H.I.E.L.D show than a big picture debut.

More than one person has been Ant-Man, so it's possible they go with another character in the suit and just ignore Pym completely. I'm actually excited about this given Edgar Wright's track record.

True, you could just go with Eric O'Grady stealing the suit from Shield and then introduce Hank as the creator/guiding voice. Like Firestorm, but not so damn weird.

You want someone else to have the Ant-Mantle?

Edgar Wright can do no wrong in my book.

Ant-Man has gotta be Pym. He ties into so many storylines like Ultron and Vision.

Ant-Man should be light but not silly. Basically similar tone to Amazing Spider-Man. I'd just use EMH as the model for how to handle the character.

Sadly, as a longtime fan of the character, the incident now seems to be the defining moment of Hank Pym's history.

Even worse, creating Ultron is probably # 2.

Edit: I think using Scott Lang as reformed criminal who steals the suit to rescue his daughter and/or pay for her medical treatment might be more interesting that "scientist invents shrinking power and talks to ants."

I really think they should write it as Henry Pym, nutty scientist with a million ideas. No way should a character as goofy as Ant-Man be overly serious.

Maybe they should do Ant-Man/Giant Man...at least have the end of the movie being Hank figuring out how to reverse the Pym Particles and become GM.

I'm against the Hank Pym/Jan Van Dyne domestic violence issue, too. Especially since I have a lot of friends who like to blurt out: "oh, Hank Pym: wifebeater. Haha". It's usually news to them that it was part of a larger story with Hank temporarily joining Egghead's Masters of Evil and eventually retiring from the costumed life for a spell.

You can't win, because if you try to explain the slapping incident, it sounds like you're supporting domestic violence.

If we break out a scorecard, Pym hasn't had the longest stint as Ant-Man. His longest tenure has probably been as Giant-Man/Goliath, with Yellowjacket coming in second. Yes, he's used some of the the Ant-Man powers in his other identities, but not as his main schtick.

I'd say Scott Lang was Ant-Man the longest (mid-70's to 2004). I think Lang's even returned as Ant-Man in the new "FF" book. I suppose he'd be their pick for a movie.

Why not have Dr. Pym as Ant-man and then suspended from Shield when convicted of domestic violence. There should be no cop-out, like he thought she was a burger. It should be cut and dry. He is a genius with a terrible anger management issue and he took out his frustrations on his wife (maybe for joyriding around with his suit calling herself the Wasp and stealing his thunder?).

Lang, desperate for cash, robs Pyms place and takes the Ant-man equipment and becomes a reluctant villain with noble intentions, like odessasteps mentioned.

After getting his daughter back, he uses the Ant-man powers to strike back at her abductors. Pym could still go on to create Giant-man, Wasp, Ultron, and everything else...

Can I start safely assuming that Simon Pegg is Ant-Man and Nick Frost is, um, Ant-Man's fat drunk friend? Because I will be horribly crushed if this isn't the case.

I just don't think the domestic abuse thing is gonna work with THESE movies. They are a lighter take on things. Like I love Earth's Mightiest Heroes and it doesn't need alcoholism and domestic abuse to be good.
