The Superior Spider-Man thread (The W) garnered the expected reactions, so what the hell, why not double the indignation on this board regarding Spider-Man related projects.

News on The Amazing Spider-Man sequel (variety.com):

Variety reports Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn are going to be in the next movie. Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane, and Harry Osborn in a Spider-Man movie, stop me if you've heard this one. I really, really hope there's no love triangle. But c'mon, there'll probably be a love triangle. Or quadrangle.

The article says Shailene Woodley from The Descendants is in talks for Mary Jane. I liked her in The Descendants. Actually, I liked her best about The Descendants. But as Mary Jane? Hmm... cue the fanboy "She's not supermodel hot enough!" reactions that plagued Kirsten Dunst for the three Raimi movies.

As for villains, the article says Electro is an option. The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Electro Boogaloo. Actually, from the wordage of the article, if Sony hasn't picked a villain, then it seems there's no script yet. Or there is an existing draft by Alvin Sergent, but it'll be re-written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner. A lot of cooks in the Spider kitchen.

Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and director Marc Webb are all returning for the sequel.

I rather liked The Amazing Spider-Man (backofthehead.com) so I've no reason to believe at this early juncture I won't like the sequel.

Know who I want to see in a Spidey flick? Kraven. No idea who should play him, though.

I'm Charlie Owens, good night, and good luck.

Tom Hardy.

No matter who the villain is, get Tom Hardy. And I will be psyched for another Spider-Man movie.

I'd like to think Hardy's locked into a long term contract so he can play Bane again.

(And to everyone saying "Dude, he died", IT'S BANE. I got no problem believing Bane can no-sell a cannon round to the chest.)

Kraven's Last Hunt with Tom Hardy as Kraven is an idea that makes me want to give them my wallet RIGHT NOW.

Too bad the next Batman is a reboot (Like how ASM was a reboot after the trilogy) and Christopher Nolan has moved on beyond Batman.

Anybody reasonable as Kraven would make for a good movie. I thought the comic was a bit dark and depressing for Spider-Man, but that seems to be the direction this is going, so it is a no-brainer for a sequel choice.

If Sony had planned ahead as well as Marvel has with Avengers, we could be close. A few changes to Raimi's movies:

Spider-Man : Kill Norman but set up Harry as HOBGOBLIN

Spider-Man 2: Don't kill DOC OCK. Set up Lizard.

Spider-Man 3: SANDMAN isn't practically a good guy and VENOM doesn't die.

Amazing Spider-Man (no reboot): LIZARD

That's five right there, introduce ELECTRO in a fifth movie and...

Coming Summer 2016: SPIDER-MAN - SINISTER

Call Mephisto, have him make all those changes.

This is as good a place to post this as any:

Marvel's Stephen Wacker and Mayor Bloomberg officially proclaimed Sunday, October 14, 2012 as Spider-Man Day in New York City (cdn.bleedingcool.net) in celebration of Spider-Man's 50th anniversary.

Apparently, Peter Parker's birthday is October 14th. I wasn't aware of that.

The Tin Man miniseries was pretty interesting. Sometimes the acting got a bit into the Lithgow/Shatner school of dramatic overacting, but on the whole it was a pretty cool retelling/reimagining of the Oz mythos.
