Originally posted by me from the Raw threadLooks like he was getting jostled around by a couple different guys. We can see him shove away some dude, who then comes back w/ a p. good push from behind on Punk. Then the dude in the black shirt either gets pushed into Punk or feigns getting pushed into him, followed up by a dude in a white shirt (behind black shirt dude) pushing the back of Punk's head, which is what finally set Punk off.
Ideally, you don't want the wrestlers getting into it physically w/ the fans, but you could make a very good case for Punk defending himself, as he's got people pushing him from behind on the stairs.
The kid doing most of the shoving seems like a winner.
While hitting people is totally wrong, there were so many people in that video I'd be totally okay with hitting.
Are we supposed to see injuries in those pictures?
The glasses are grievously injured! One lens, forever pushed out in a senseless display of eye-wear bashing.
Back at last year's MITB, security was ready for Punk to jump in the crowd. They weren't lined up to block the crowd off, but they were right behind him. They sure weren't right behind Punk this time. If they're really changing these things at the last second, it might have ended up hurting Punk in a non-creative way for once.
I'm as big a Punk mark as anyone, but there's no excuse for this, seen the video, & Punk was .way. out of line here, Punk makes the first actual "shove" in the video. Before that, all we see is him slapping hands away. The fan has every right to file a police complaint, Punk doesn't just slap him, he then turns around and decks him, I mean what the hell? I know Punk is trying his best to get over as a heel, but this just makes it seem like he's just a bit of a hot headed douche in real life.
Punk was getting knocked all over hell, and the from Punk's view, sunglass guy pushed him once and then knocked him in the head, that's when he swung. We obviously see sunglass guy get knocked into Punk, but all Punk saw was big obnoxious guy trying to push him around. The kid on the left in the black shirt is the kid on twitter braggin it up.
Not sure how you can say Punk was "way out of line", seeing as he's standing on steps w/ people pushing him from behind and security nowhere to be found, all while trying to concentrate on the scripted action. Not to be all dramatic-y, but how long would it be before someone shoves him hard enough to throw him off balance and down the steps?

Hopefully long enough for him to just walk a couple steps down so he's away from the 1-2 guys that are shoving him and is now in a new group of fans?

I had a thought that's kind of similar but kind of the opposite; If there's one way to turn slight crowd shoving into a full on relatiatory push down the stairs it's to punch someone in the face.
I guess I'm old school, but I've always heard you NEVER GET PHYSICAL WITH THE WRESTLERS AT A SHOW. Going to a show is similar to going to a strip club......It's exactly like going to a strip club!
The real question is how badly it will play in the regular media. This is as good as gold to be used on Linda during the campaign. Her opponent was using old attitude footage. Now, he gets the current world champ beating up a fan while her husband stands idly by without calling security or punishing his employee. I don't see Punk hanging on that belt for long even if he was somewhat justified in his response.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.Twitter: @realjoecarfley its a bit more toned down there. A bit.

Having checked out his twitter and then watched the videos again, it seems that this dude is not bright to the point that he doesn't seem to realize that he can be seen on video having nothing to do with it: based off his pics, he's the teen in the gray UCDavis Wrestling shirt who runs up AFTER Punk punches the guy to stand next to him flash the bull horns. In fact, you can clearly see that he was at least 2 rows in front of the action until it popped off, because when he stands up his back blocks the view in one of the videos.
Quite frankly, this whole thing is starting to make me think that maybe people need to be punched more often (not really. Maybe).
edit: this is not to say he didn't do anything when Punk was going up the stairs, mind.
TMZ story (tmz.com) on Punk incident last night, with WWE statement, some new details, and a new video with a different angle. Plenty of douchebags in the crowd surrounding Punk.

Perhaps a judge can sentence this Twitter guy to be Tammy Sytch's boyfriend for 30 days.

After Smackdown, everyone seemed so bummed that Taker went over Benoit and Angle that I felt compelled to offer some sorely-needed consolation. Let's look at the big picture together, shall we? 1.
