Screw Ge-wirtz (aka Gerwitz), but I don't think this'll help.

I don't want to double-post but I also don't want to leave a hit & run first post either, what to do what to do.

Short of Kevin Dunn, there doesn't seem to be anyone as personally poorly regarded as Brian Gewirtz as far as WWE power people. Patron saint of guffaw pre-tapes and Cena jokes, but genuinely praised for his ability to script promos and dedicate his life wholesale to the life of WWE creative, I won't miss Pee Brian Blair. But the same infrastructure that hires the same kind of minds with the same person overseeing it, so I wouldn't expect a big renaissance even if someone "traditional" like Michael Hayes ends up as the new nominal head.

In the master narrative of company history, though, you can look at some of the vestiges of modern times (Gewirtz, Laurinaitis, eventually Kevin Dunn?) being cleared out to make way for a bold new McMahon-Levesequely era.

Boy, Vince must have REALLY hated whatever draft of his Very Special State of th WWE Address he had written for him. Do you think they're still rewriting it 45 minutes before air?

(Yes. Yes, they are.)

And Jim Cornette has been removed of head of creative in ROH. Bad year to be a head writer in Wrestling I guess as Russo, Cornette and Gerwitz have been removed from power or quit. There were some storylines that Gerwitz wrote that I liked, but for the most part I thought he was pretty damn terrible and should have been removed as the head writer long ago. Not sure how much will change because 75 percent of the roster may still be presented as losers and be on losing streaks even without Brian in power. Hopefully at the very least we'll get less goofy as hell Sheamus and Cena promos and more serious ones.

I guess one of Vince's quotes was " I want results or resignations." I wonder if he meant Steph and HHH, because that is who deserves to go. Until that happens, we will get the same weak willed wrestling kiddie comedy show with a side of Punk, Kane and Daniels being awesome that we get every week. Vince going off on a tear is probably for show, if he really thinks he can beat the MNF line up this year, he is more delusional than usual.

I know you meant ROH, but I'm just pointing it out in case anyone else was confused.

This presupposes the only who wanted to see those was Gerwitz. They wouldn't have been on the show if Vince didn't want them there. We may see the humor change but I wouldn't expect it to go away without a bigger change. Gerwitz was head writer, but there were and are a few people above him on the organizational chart.

(And I'd be surprised if Cena changed much too, after years of doing it the way he's doing it.)

Those Dr. Shelby segments were hilarious and seem like something Gewirtz came up with. Too bad if a demotion comes after those.

It's not something WWE can really announce on their website can they? Doesn't the fact that they have writers and scripts break kayfabe?

PS.
(As a Connecticut resident with a TV, radio, and computer, I am so ready for this election to be over and I don't have to be bombarded with Linda McMahon at every ad break on every channel and banner ad. I think the onslaught will be a turn-off to voters like it was last time.)

PWInsider (pwinsider.com) has more on the creative shakeup backstage.

Eric Pankowski, Senior Vice President, Creative and Development, is Gerwitz's replacement as RAW head writer. I don't know who that is.

I had seen this video over the weekend, and was thinking to myself that he deserves one more chance at being a booker.

The man knows the product, he knows how to get the most out of performers, and he could do wonders if he didn't have to worry about payroll, like in ECW.

WWE not trusting and not liking Heyman seems to a big hurdle. (I don't want anything that limits Heyman from being a TV character, TBH.)

Pankowski seems to be a new hire. From this January...

He will also manage WWE's creative writing teams and oversee the sale of programming to networks, studios and other distributors. "Eric is a creative veteran whose knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset in both the creation of new WWE content as well as enhancing our core product," said WWE exec veep of creative Stephanie McMahon, to whom Pankowski will report. Pankowski spent 12 years at Warner Bros, culminating in his role as SVP of production company ParaMedia ("Lopez Tonight"). He has also been director of programming at Telepictures ("The Ellen DeGeneres Show").

Does this mean Dr. Shelby's getting future endeavored, too? This really IS the worst day ever!

Uh, Cena's been p. serious in his promos ever since he started the Rock feud. (Sure, there's been some comedy, but nothing even close to what it used to be).

He's done some of the worst stuff he's ever done this year while also doing some of the best. My god, the main event interview with Laurinaitis. My god, the beginning of his interview tonight. It was like the final, fleeting bullet in Gewirtz's great gun.

Gewirtz is the guy who worked with the Rock on his promos, right? Methinks Gewirtz will be brought back to 'consult' only when Rock is back in the fold for the Royal Rumble-Wrestlemania timeframe.

Gewirtz is garbage, and is the poster-boy for the scripted verbatim promo over the good kind, so I'm not sad. But Vince taking it out on the writers when three-hours is the problem is completely cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Well, if nothing else, I think we all know what his tombstone will say:

It's obviously impossible for us to say what this will mean to the show, since we don't - much to my dismay, as I've said before - get things like in-depth walkthroughs of WWE storylines by showrunners and the like. If the direction does change, it would probably be coincidental and due to the campaign ending. My short term hope is that they stick with the plan of Punk's assault on Cena's modern title record while spending some time thinking about what to do with the bigger, long term problem of never budging at the very top and the damage it does to the guys below.

Re: Kevin Dunn, I just can't imagine him ever going without becoming an on-camera personality first so they can do a Virtuous But Still Totally Badass WWE Chairman HHH vs. Evil Raw Director Kevin Dunn feud, complete with a callback to that time they faded out of a HHH interview, only to have him decide he wasn't done and actually fade back up from black to finish his rant. Then they'll fire Dunn.

(Also, as much as I can't stand HHH the performer, I am not at all opposed to HHH running things backstage if he stays off the show. Things went in unexpectedly weird directions, but the guy did go out and sign Mistico and Kong, and no one can argue with the intent there.)

Isn't he also behind the push for tag teams?
