OPENING THURSDAY NIGHT NFL RECAP
I'll probably be skimping on transcription for a while, since I'm starting up the DVR late due to season-long Thursday Night Football! Tonight saw the Bears blow a golden opportunity to drive an early stake into the Packers. Cutler was horrific, Brandon Marshall dropped a sure-fire TD, and the Bears' last drive was pathetic. More pathetic? The replacement refs. No, Mr. Scab Referee, a 5-yard "12 men on the field" penalty is NOT an automatic first down, thank you very much.
PACKERS 23, BEARS 10

LAST SUNDAY AT NO SURRENDER!
Jeff Hardy wins the Bound For Glory series! Bobby Roode cost James Storm his semi-final match! Austin Aries got a piece of the Armbreaker, but the Aces & Eights struck again and struck down Jeff Hardy! And no, we still don't know who any of them are.

We are LIVE from the Impact Zone! Opening pyro!

We open with AUSTIN ARIES for our opening promo. He's greeted with an "Aries" chant. Aries holds up the belt and says that the belt represents power and is the reason everyone competes. He also cites it as the reason the A&E are after him. Aries dismisses the A&E and moves on to talking about Bound For Glory, crediting Jeff Hardy for winning the BFG series. Aries invites him to the ring.

JEFF HARDY answers the invite. This week, Jeff Hardy's face looks like it was designed by Spalding. Aries personally congratulates Jeff for winning last Sunday.

His kudos is quickly cut short by BULLY RAY, who storms to the ring and demands his music be cut off. Ray says Aries and Hardy are both lucky because he lost. Ray says he felt bad for Jeff and that he's been beating Jeff for 15 years. Ray challenges Jeff to a fight. Aries cuts in and points out that he made Ray tap out and that Jeff beat Ray last time they met. Jeff wants a fight and takes his shirt off, but Ray can't handle the shirtlessness and backs away. Ray has more to say, but is suddenly cut off by Jeff Hardy's music. Everyone kinda looks around. Methinks they cued the music too early.

Earlier today, we see James Storm arrive at the Impact Zone. We hear from him later tonight!

SONJAY DUTT v. ZEMA ION: X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
"Everyone who pays to see a PPV is an idiot." -CRZ

Mike Tenay and Taz send their best wishes to Jerry Lawler during Dutt's entrance. Ion comes out with another can of Rick Martel's Arrogance.

Ion rushes Dutt and misses a corner charge to start. Ion pulls down Dutt, but Dutt quickly bounces over and takes him down with a headscissors. Dutt parkours the shit out of Ion on the outside with beautiful headscissors and an apron moonsault! Swinging headscissors takes Ion down again. Ion takes control by hanging Dutt on the top rope. Dutt quickly hits a big 'rana for 2. Dutt's corner elbow misses, but he hits Kofi's high kick counter. Ion tries to grab Dutt off the turnbuckle, but gets headscissored again. Ion tries a sunset flip, but Dutt misses the standing moonsault counter. Ion grabs the RINGS OF SATURN~!, which Dutt turns into a roll-up for 2. Dutt hits the MOONSAULT FOOTSTOMP~!, but Ion puts his foot on the ropes at 2! Dutt tries it again, but gets crotched and Ion rolls him up for the pin at about 4 minutes.

WINNER: Zema Ion - Dutt looked fantastic. Ion showed nothing here.

Post-match, Ion bops Dutt from behind with the can of Arrogance and clamps on a juji gatame for fun.

Backstage, the World Tag Team Champions of the World mock Hulk Hogan while he's out of his office. Hulk Hogan enters the picture, so Daniels offers Hogan an APPLETINI~!, which Hulk says tastes like gasoline. Hulk puts Kaz and Daniels in singles matches. Daniels faces either Chavo Guerrero or Hernandez, while Kaz faces either AJ Styles or Kurt Angle. If any of the champs lose, the other team gets a rematch. The champs argue amongst themselves to end the segment.

Bobby Roode walks backstage. We hear from him next!

Ad break

Backstage, AJ Styles tells Kurt Angle that he wants Kaz tonight. Kurt tells AJ to focus and he'll let AJ have him as long as he guarantees victory. AJ exits and Wes Brisco enters the picture. Kurt escorts Wes over to watch AJ in action.

Here's a video package on James Storm's night at No Surrender.

BOBBY ROODE makes his entrance for our next promo. Roode welcomes himself back, saying he was screwed during his match with Austin Aries, so he took his ball and went home. That brings up a "Go back home!" chant. HA! Roode says he watched as James Storm finished first in the BFG series. Roode says Storm rode his coattails and didn't deserve a title shot over him.

"COWBOY" JAMES STORM comes out for rebuttal. And by rebuttal, I mean "a fight," as he quickly takes it to Roode. Storm channels his inner Daniel Bryan and chokes Roode with his own necktie! Storm chucks Roode into the ramp. The fight moves to the back, as we go to our next...

Ad break

BOUND FOR GLORY MEMORIES: 2009, AJ Styles beats Sting to retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

KAZARIAN v. "THE PHENOMENAL" AJ STYLES
Tenay notes that Storm and Roode had to be separated once they reached the back.

Wrestling sequence starts us off, which Styles wins with armdrags. Kaz tries to back off, so Styles bops him in the face. Styles brings Kaz in the hard way and tries for the Styles Clash, which Kaz counters. AJ quickly comes back with a dropkick. Styles continues beating on Kaz on the outside as we go to our next ad break.

We come back with Kaz getting a cheap shot in the corner. AJ's corner charge eats boot, but he's able to catch Kaz coming in with a backbreaker. AJ counters a suplex, but they slip on an apron DDT attempt! That looked painful! Although a replay shows that it looked like a solid move. Styles tries to come into the guardrail and misses, allowing Kaz to hit a monkey flip. Styles makes the babyface comeback in the ring. Styles wipes out Kaz with a springboard forearm. Kaz tries for the Flair pin, but only gets 2! Kaz argues the call, but eats the Pele Kick. Styles Clash ends Kaz's night at about 10 minutes shown.

WINNER: AJ Styles - Solid match.

Backstage, Hulk Hogan tells Brooke that he wants two bodyguards for her at all times. Joseph Park enters the picture and tells Hulk that his investigation has made progress. Park says he's waiting on a key piece of evidence and that it'll be here next week. Park says it'll blow the Aces & Eights case wide open. Hulk appoints Park to be Brooke's bodyguard. Hulk exits and Park stammers before offering Brooke some legal representation.

Ad break

Backstage, Bully Ray barges in on Jeff Hardy and offers to make tonight's match mean something. Ray wants Jeff to put up his title shot tonight. Ray calls Jeff a coward. Jeff agrees to the stipulation. Jesus, those painted-on eyes on Jeff's eyelids are just CREEPY! I think Bully agrees, because he examines Jeff's face, not knowing if he's actually looking or not.

Here's a video package on Austin Aries and the Aces & Eights.

Here's the "Not the nWo" porno music to bring out HULK HOGAN for our next promo. Hogan talks up the BFG series and Jeff Hardy. Hulk then turns to the Aces & Eights, patting himself on the back for locking the building down. He says the Impact Zone will be locked down forever. That brings up the Aces & Eights on the ImpactTron. Bane says that he can trust his teammates, but Hulk can't say the same. Bane hints that anyone in the building can be one of them. That takes us to our next...

Ad break

We recap what we just saw Moments Ago.

Backstage, Chavo Guerrero blames himself for getting beaten by his own Lie, Cheat, and Steal playbook. Chavo vows to beat Daniels tonight.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS v. CHAVO GUERRERO
Daniels comes out with the belt hanging over his crotch and doing male stripper moves atop the ramp! Yikes! It's funny as hell, but that's not something I was expecting.

Daniels stalls to start. Back in the ring, we start proper with a lock-up. Daniels misses a cheap shot, allowing Chavo to hammer away in the corner. Chavo grabs a quick chinlock. Overhead backbreaker gets 1. Chavo gets a monkey flip and another chinlock. Daniels ducks out to stall some more, so Chavo meets him with a somersault body block. Daniels catches Chavo coming in to take control. Daniels grabs a hammerlock and knees Chavo to shit before taking him down with an STO. We hit the waistlock! Both men exchange blows, which Daniels wins with a WICKED slap! Chavo responds with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker before making the babyface comeback. Chavo hiptosses Daniels over the top rope, so Daniels grabs the belt. Referee doesn't see anything, but Daniels swings and misses with the belt and Chavo hits the Three Amigos! Frog Splash finishes at 6 minutes shown.

WINNER: Chavo Guerrero - The champs go 0 for 2, so we're probably in for a three-way at BFG.

We meet our next Gut Check contestant, Evan Markopoulos. Oh no, I'm not falling for this one again. I'm not investing in anyone until I know for sure they aren't a complete disaster in the ring.

Tara walks to the ring. We hear from her next!

Ad break

We recap the fight between James Storm and Bobby Roode. Storm says he wants to make Roode's life a living hell and threatens to call him out during next week's Open Fight Night.

BOUND FOR GLORY MEMORIES: 2005, Gail Kim becomes the first Knockouts champion.

TARA makes her entrance. Tara congratulates Miss Tessmacher and invites her out. MISS TESSMACHER makes her way out, as we see Tess covered in this week's Sports Illustrated. Tara points out that she was upset after her loss last Sunday, but expresses her love for Tess. She's laying it on REALLY thick and it's obvious she's going to turn on her. Tara wants to presents Tess the title belt proper. So Tara takes the belt and puts it on Tess...and gets on the mic to call Tess her best friend and Knockouts champion. Jesus, she might as well wear a neon sign that says "I'M GOING TO TURN ON YOU!" Tara raises Tess's hand and hugs her and then...say it with me...she lays out Tess with a clothesline. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a heel turn! They couldn't have made that more obvious if they used a Super Obvious Machine. Hey, wasn't Super Obvious Machine the name of someone doing WWF house shows in the 80's with Giant Machine, Piper Machine, and Hulk Hogan Machine? Widow's Peak will put an exclamation point on this heel beatdown. Hit Tara's music.

We look back at No Surrender, where Jeff Hardy beat Bully Ray.

Backstage, Bully Ray and Jeff Hardy walk towards the ring. The main event is next!

Ad break - Who's this guy rapping during the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 ad? It sounds like Snoop Dogg, but we all know that guy doesn't exist anymore!

Backstage, Dixie Carter expresses concern to everyone over Aces & Eights. Wait...she's spent weeks farting around with Claire Lynch and AJ Styles and NOW she cares about her company? Good grief. Hulk Hogan points out that it's warfare now. D-Lo Brown says that the A&E are just trying to intimidate them. Hogan says that they have to put this fire out before it becomes uncontrollable. Al Snow says they have to be proactive. Dixie wants to know how her investment is going to be protected. Again, NOW she cares? Where we she a few months ago? We get a tease that anyone in the room can be an inside man.

BULLY RAY v. "THE CHARISMATIC ENIGMA" JEFF HARDY
"Everyone who pays to see a PPV is still an idiot." -CRZ

Bully attacks from behind to start and hammers away. Jeff quickly comes back with rights and a forearm. Jeff goes to the ten-count corner punches, but Bully tries for a powerbomb at 8. Jeff counters with a headscissors and mule kick. Ray goes to the outside and Jeff takes him out with a pescado to take us to our final ad break of the night.

We come back with Jeff countering a corner charge and hitting a second-rope splash for 2. Jeff comes off the ropes and runs into the Hook 'Em Horns big boot! MOOO! We hit the chinlock! Ray continues with some methodical offense. Ray's running boot misses, but the Twist of Fate is countered when Ray chucks Jeff into the steel post. Ray chases Jeff on the outside with an elbow before bringing him back in. Ray charges into an elbow and Jeff hits the Whisper in the Wind. Both men exchange blows on their way to their feet. Ray misses with the clothesline and Jeff makes the babyface comeback. Jeff wants the Twist of Fate, but Ray turns it into the Bully Bomb for 2! Second Bully Bomb is countered with a DDT for 2! Jeff goes up top and gets crotched! Ray climbs up and hammers away. Second-rope superplex gets 2! Vaderbomb misses! Jeff's Swanton Bomb misses! Second Bully Bomb hits and STILL gets 2! Hook 'Em Horns big boot misses and Jeff hits a pair of Twists of Fate! OFF COMES THE SHIRT! Swanton Bomb finishes at about 15 minutes shown!

WINNER: Jeff Hardy - Another good match between these two.

Jeff Hardy celebrates post-match. Closing credits are up and we're out!

FINAL THOUGHT

Again, no advancement in the Aces & Eights angles. In fact, we now have MORE questions. Look, pacing is one thing, but ENOUGH ALREADY! Let's move this angle forward! And I mean REALLY move it forward! Hopefully, Joseph Park will do just that next week.

Bully Ray's been such a hot act, I can't help but wonder if that BFG main event turns into a three-way...especially if it turns out that Ray's the guy behind the Aces.

Good show with good matches. Looking forward to the BFG build, which promises to be a better build than the No Surrender one was.

Until next time!

"It could be ANY ONE OF US. What do you think, suddenly front-and-centre D'Lo Brown?" (cue ominous music and hilarious close-ups)

That utterly ridiculous backstage melodrama aside, this was a fairly solid episode. I just can't shake the feeling that, as hinky as the booking of No Surrender was, Bound For Glory is going to play out that much worse.

God, I miss Bobby Heenan on the mic. I am actually ok with the pacing, because BFG is a few weeks away and sometimes less is more. They can't do what they did with the NWO which is have them in every segment. I also think the fact, we don't know who is actually in Aces&Eights ie wrestler wise, I am ok with it. No one is going to remember Luke Gallows and if they do it will take them a few minutes for a friend to say its Punk's friend.

A little surprised they are keeping with Jeffy going into BFG unless, its a giant swerve for Aces&Eights to take him out and let Bully get into the match and win with their help. My big problem with BFG is its going to be a big number of rematches. Tara/Tess, Storm/Roode and the tag match. They might want spend some more time with Joe/Magnus and give Gail someone to fight like the red head that won the Gut check. You know something new.

Tara/Tess and Storm/Roode can be freshened up with gimmicks. An "I Quit" for Storm and Roode would definitely catch my interest.

TNA is coming to some big crossroads. The Ace's and 8's reveal is either gonna keep the momentum going or take them back to square one (especially if it is Bischoff or Jarrett).

Anyone else notice Scott Steiner no longer tweets? I was thinking about this the other day, and then thinking about Aces and Eights ... but that is crazy talk, right?

As much as I really love Bully Ray, I am glad they did not give him the win here. The BFG tournament was so good that Jeff throwing it all away seems wasteful and I do believe he will have a good match with Aries it is the run ins I worry about. The double Twist of Fates into a Swanton was pretty sweet.

The backstage segment with the TNA brass was some of the cheesiest camera work I've seen in awhile. Where the hell did D'Lo come from? Why haven't I noticed him before?

I'm in the something needs to happen with the Aces and Eights soon camp. I wasn't a fan of this to begin with and even though I am a fan of a slow build some kind of reveal has to happen even if it is just a mid level guy.

Taz needs to pull his shit together, his commentary is not terrible from start to finish but he loses focus and just starts rambling.

This is still a solid wrestling show, even if I find myself multitasking more than I was a couple of weeks ago. TNA does a good job of having guys just being pissed at each other and wanting to settle it in the ring. I also like that old feuds pop up and they acknowledge them. I just hope the Aces and Eights/Invasion/nWo/gang warfare thing doesn't put them back to where they were a year ago.

His gaffes are becoming more frequent and Tenay (though he tries) isn't nearly assertive enough to reign him in.

D-Lo has been around every time the agents have to break up a fight, which seemed to happen on a weekly basis a few months ago.

I don't mind Aces & Eights in theory, but as Dixie stated, Hogan hasn't really come up with a plan to defend TNA from them other than "let's just let them in and fight them." Also, we don't know what the point of Aces & Eights is. What do they want? They don't have to reveal who is behind the group, but without knowing any participants, who is behind it, or what they want (and we're on month three of the group's existence), it's hard to get emotionally invested in the thing.

Yes it is crazy.....crazy like a fox!

Actually I was just looking at Big Poppa Pump's tweets and noticed he hasn't tweeted anything since June. Apparently TNA filed a complaint about his disparaging twitter remarks.

....but after some research I discovered Aces & 8's made their debut attacking Sting in June 14th episode of Impact. Steiner's twitter rants stopped shortly after a court order on June 23rd. Steiner seemed to be gaining lots of attention with his rants, he could be the mastermind behind Aces & 8's!

The biker gang thing seems a bit out of his gimmick wheel house, but he was one of the more prominent members of NWO that acted kinda like bikers. He ranted on Hogan and Brooke all the time.... Aces & 8's keep targeting the Hogans.

If this is legit (am I'm getting way too into this?) it would support speculation that A & 8's is a disgruntled wrestlers/worker's faction after all.

BigDaddyLoco you may have cracked this case wide open.

Not to feed into this conspiracy theory more, but...the Steiners made their 1996 WCW return on motorcycles. This motif for Scott isn't unheard of.

Matt Morgan who everyone thought was going back to the WWE returned to TNA at a house show in Pennsylvania last night. Morgan has been bitching on twitter for weeks that TNA management had been lying to him for years. The whole thing was clearly part of an angle and I wouldn't be surprised if he either joins the Aces and Eights or is the leader.

Overall, a pretty solid 2 hour wrestling show that did a good job of ultimately setting a pace for the hype towards Bound for Glory. The promo segments on the show, or rather the ones that I saw, didn't wow me but did their job in ultimately setting things up heading towards the ppv. Wrestling action was pretty good in general with the X Division title match being the only real flop, there just wasn't anything there to speak of and I just don't see Ion as a star. It was good to see solid attention put on the tag titles during the show with the two singles matches. Styles vs. Kazarian was a good solid match that delivered an expected outcome. Chavo vs. Daniels was an ok match with an expected outcome as well. I figure that the champs will defend in a threeway dance against Styles & Angle and Chavo & Hernandez at BFG or there'll be a #1 contender's match between those two teams, which would kind of render the matches tonight moot. The Aces & Eights storyline continues to do nothing for me and there were a couple of lame segments keeping it at the forefront. Tara turning on Tessmacher was nothing really to speak of either. Roode & Storm set up their match with an expected fight. The main event was a lot of fun and I'm pleased to see Hardy retain his spot here. I honestly don't think Bully Ray is out of the running, however, as I think they'll find some way of inserting him into the title picture yet, possibly in a threeway, because there's just no real fire that I can see to Aries vs. Hardy.

Why you would have him show up even if its a half empty house show? I gave some thought of going to, but ND football and money took priority over it. If he is behind it, it would be a much better idea than Jarrett or Bischoff.

Last time Morgan was on TV Bully Ray took him out.Figured that would be his feud if he returned but his tweets suggest dissatisfaction with management which suggests he'll be a heel at the very least and his latest tweet saying see who I'm with might be too on the nose to join the Aces and Eights.
