It's a very slow build if the rumors about Austin not wanting to go until WM30 are to be believed. I've noticed Punk's been taking shots at the entire Attitude Era though. Last night he trash talked Bret, Austin, HBK, and the Rock. Punk vs. the Attitude Era sounds like a good angle to me. I wonder if it culminates in him going up against the Undertaker at WrestleMania next year? Bonus points if Taker dons a Ministry of Darkness-era outfit.

The problem with the Bryan/Kane skits getting over so well is that now the WWE and their writers are going to go to the well with these skits until it is bone dry, and then keep going back for more. Kane/Bryan worked more because of the people involved than the way the skits were written.

I wish Bryan still loved the YES chants because then we could have Yes We Kane.

The one thing I love about Punk is the subtle stuff he puts into his work, face or heel. Someone already pointed out he was taking shots at Attitude era stars. I also noticed he did some of Bret Hart's moveset with the second rope elbow and the short legdrop. Thought he'd try for a sharpshooter too but Tyson Kidd got to do that.

Anything bad I've ever said or thought of Michael Cole is out the window. Dude handled an insanely tough situation perfectly.

not something we'd likely see on a WWF show

Didn't Punk do that a year or two ago, when Hart was on RAW and Punk was a heel?

It has nothing to do with them I'm pretty sure. TSN aired it live all the time, Score used to air it live- then it was delayed by 15 mins. I've heard Score claim they can only air so many live shows but A) they used to do it and in fact promised Raw would never be preempted and B) EVERY SINGLE live Smackdown has aired live in Canada without fail. I think they used to just so they could edit stuff, and they have that stupid horsey racing before that maybe they're contracted to air at that time.

So since they are so desperate to get Punk heel heat, will he come out taking credit for the heart attack next week?

To Moss, The Score's problem is indeed CRTC related. TSN could air Raw live, but that's because TSN has a license to broadcast live sports programming. The Score isn't a station in the same mold as TSN or Sportsnet, it started out as a 24 hour sports highlight/recap station, though it has since evolved into something more than that. But that remains what the license it has from the CRTC lets it do. The amount of live programming that The Score can air each day is limited. To circumvent that, they used the 15 minute delay on Raw. With the start time being bumped back an hour, they probably are just delaying the show by the full hour instead due to the horse racing they've typically aired then, and that might change once that show's contract is up. But it's the restriction on live programming that keeps us from getting live Raws in all but the most exceptional circumstances. They have been known to rework things on occasion for special situations, like when Raw airs in Canada (just not last night).

Smackdown is a taped show, and thus isn't subject to that CRTC restriction. I'm guessing their Tuesday lineup is weaker than Monday, because they can get those Super Smackdown Live specials live as well.

If they do, it will be a giant new low even if Lawler gives it the ok. If they can't or Punk can't get the crowd against him then it means WWE needs to change what they are doing. I think Punk is over as a heel, but that was Montreal and at the beginning with the Patron Saint of Canada at the scene of one of his worst nights ever. During the match, he was getting cheers as well as Paul, so who knows. Ultimately, WWE is going to keep ramming Cena down our throats regardless as the hero of the people til people stop letting their kids buy his shirts.

I really really feel for Lawler, Seeing what happened on Raw hit home hard so I really do want to wish him the best in his recovery (and thank god he was near medical personal).

I'm going to be honest when I say this. I'm not a very superstitious person, but this along with the fire that happened on the Raw set weeks ago is just giving me bad thoughts on the future of the 3 hours Raw's. As stupid as some people may think it sounds, it really putting me off watching Raw just due to the fear that the worse may happen during it.

I'm much happier with Kane and Bryan getting the shot over the PTP's getting their hundredth shot at the titles. It's all angle, but at least it's entertaining.

Kane's had a very...interesting history with the tag titles, having won titles with Undertaker, Big Show, Rob Van Dam, The Hurricane, Mick Foley, and X-Pac. Now we'll probably get to add Daniel Bryan to that illustrious list.

The story I heard was that The Score could only air X number of hours of non-Canadian live programming. So by delaying the start of Raw (either with the pre-game show or just waiting an hour), Raw no longer counts as being live, and thus, doesn't count against the allowable live hours. So presumably they could still air Raw live if they chose to do so, but they'd need to make up the difference somewhere else.

EDIT: Or maybe Chumpstain's version is closer to the truth? I don't know but it sounds reasonable. Similar idea either way.

Not lower than "Eddie's in HELL" less than three months after his death to get Orton heel heat. That's the depth they've reached IMO, worse than Katie Vick, worse than the Kiss-My-Ass club, worse than birthing a hand, worse than going on with the show at "Over the Edge" (because a conscious, considered decision is different from a snap, in-real-time decision). My opinion.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

This was one of those times I was behind on my viewing, but I made an effort to catch up on WWE when I saw the Jerry thread.

As to the show, I almost thought they were going to help Sheamus out for a change, but alas. The skit ran too long, and had a large stupid-to-funny ratio, and the match w/o commentary exposed that the crowd hasn't been chanting "Brogue" for him after all. Let's see if I can be a wizard here.. Del Rio gets declared the champion when he eats a Brogue kick - *after Sheamus submits him*, Ziggler runs out and cashes in on Del Rio. Sounds feasible.

A week late, but I won't be too hard on the bookers for giving us the wacky tag team the people want.

The lack of commentary did illustrate how a good announcer can get a storyline over, and showed me how much the schizophrenic Cole character hurts the broadcast (and don't get me wrong, Cole did a good job with the updates this time - but how long until we again get the 'hushed voices' to boost an angle?)

Cody Rhodes' music was twice as good without anyone talking over it.

So Montreal is like the capitol of WWE Bizarroland, right? We get Punk getting booed at the start as he interrupts/promos against the Canadian hero Hitman, and that carries over to his match against Orton, and the tag match that developed. Then Cena comes out, gets a resounding boo - and a decent C M PUNK chant breaks out?

I think we may have isolated something here.

Oh yes, Cena did great with his promo, he is that guy he says he is.. (because he can't heel and fulfill 1000 Make-a-Wishes and sell all those primary colored tee-shirts) even having to deflect the YOU CAN'T WRESTLE chant .. but Punk did just as well to pass up all the openings he had to shove those words right back down Cena and Hart's throats. Particularly when Bret called out Punk for his Macho Man tribute. Low blow.

Considering they used Lawler's mother's death, not only with his permission but at his suggestion, in his angle with Michael Cole at Wrestlemania, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they utilized this somehow. Punk doesn't need it, though. Let Heath Slater talk about how legends need to stop stepping to him because one of them might be next.

I'm sure I remember reading that Lawler wasn't happy about the references to his mother in that angle, but I can't find where I read that. Closest I can find is Meltzer on the Observer board:

...if you know Lawler, he doesn't give a shit at this point. He considers wrestling all fake and is emotionally detached from it. He does his job and pads his bank account. That's it. He did say that his mother would not have liked to have been used this way, but he's not going to cause waves over a fake script.

This Raw Active twitter poll stuff has to stop. Not only is it dumb, but they just do whatever they want no matter what you pick. This has mostly been done for the Kane/Bryan feud. So we get to vote for "hug it out" last week and they did turn it into something entertaining. But then they went to fighting by the end and it was as if they voted on fighting each other.

As you will remember, the second choice was "have them be a tag team" and it lost. So this week they basically went that route and did the wacky tag team option. It has happened in the past as well. They need to just do the angle and stop acting like they are giving the fans a choice as to how the storyline will be shaped.
