The Chicago crowd made this Raw the best in quite a while, the cheering of Punk just felt right, and it was a deliberate thumb in the eye to the boneheaded decision to turn him heel in the first place. It made Punk a lot less 1 dimensional than he's been for the past few weeks, even if that wasn't the intention.

If they'd actually wanted some proper heat for Punk they'd have had John Laurinaitis poke his head through the window at the end.

As it was, the breathtaking, pant wetting awesomeness, orgasm inducing loveliness (can't think of any more adjectives to describe it-ness) of the Heyman reveal only intensifies his hardcore fan-base, and the vocal sections of the crowd that refuse to boo him. The (I'll admit, rather clever) 'I'm going home' segment didn't work either, the MOMENT punk tuned up at the end the crowd went utterly ape shit. I can imagine VKM in his trailer at this point thinking, ''Ah shit, but surely when Heyman turns up they'll definitely............oh''

'Vince, with his head in his hands, proceeds to have a mental break down, attempting to tattoo the words ''please boo Cm Punk'' directly onto his testicles'

First off, and off topic, but you people and your twitter embeds are killing me. Almost every time it happens, I get the "Do you want to stop running the script" question as it slows way down. That happen to anyone else?

Sorry for that tangent, and I might have to apologize for this too, but I liked Layla v. Miz. She talked in a sensical manner about Eve and Miz in the way that a normal non-WWE Universian would. Them yelling over each other was annoying, but the words they were saying greatly entertained me. That being said, Miz needs to never do commentary again.

The Paul Heyman reveal was awesome, and I am intrigued as to where they take this. Rey and Sin Cara did well together; I hope they can team up more often.

I just shook my head and laughed when Miz and Cole acted like they were aghast Punk would choose to walk out on the show.

Didn't he do the same thing, with the same WWE title in the same city last July?

I think Rey and Sin Cara teaming up may lead to a falling out and set up a match at WM29.

I also shudder to think what may happen if Linda wins in November. Ads on Connecticut radio here make it seem like she's the only candidate in the race.

This.

I like how, despite their size difference, Bryan acts like they are equals.

Bryan's transformation on-camera in less than two years has been spectacular. He has gone from Chris Benoit-level to almost The Rock-level in terms of his charisma and ease with the camera and crowds.
I watched the hug segment on DVR and didn't even fast-forward. Kane and Bryan actually made a "hugging" segment work- and had the crowd chanting. Having a referee involved and Miz explain the rules of hugging made it much better.

-Liked how AJ did the "wipes feet on ring apron" a la Regal.

-Kaitlyn has a unique look, but the skunk hair just bugs me.

-Little Jimmy wasn't there-- or was he? How do you tell?

-If you have it on DVR, check out the androgynous fan to the right over Cole's shoulder as he announces the Twitter poll. As soon as he mentions Twitter, they whip out their phone and excitedly mock text. Boy or girl, either way it's sarcastically hilarious.

Wow. Some of the things mentioned here I actually liked.

Kane/Bryan's anger management skits have me laughing. I enjoy each of them.

I enjoyed Miz and Cole on commentary, probably because of two things: Miz wasn't playing a heel commentator ALL the time, and second: I'm tired of Cole/Lawler.

It actually reached staggering levels on this show. Why you would try to kill off CM Punk, or dampen his reaction when "CM Punk in Chicago" is virtually the only Attitude Era level reaction any modern WWE star ever gets anywhere these days? Punk in Chicago comes across as a HUGE deal, and him running back at the end doesn't make their decision to have him bail any less stupid. And then Vince says "we let the fans decide". This is WCW level now. From the sign confiscation to the immediate assassination of any talent the audience takes to that the office doesn't like, this company employs a borderline tyrannical condescension now like I've never seen in my life. They're trying to draw kids by treating all of us like we are kids.

You know, if they made them an actual team and put them in the tag division, they could really invigorate the tag scene significantly. Remember when tag-teams came across as big deals?

Jerry Lawler as a babyface is so shitty and annoying. I would love it if he turned heel and aligned with Punk, saying Punk reminded him of what he used to do to get respect.

Was someone supposed to be the face in the Miz/Layla yellfest?

It would make me really happy (at least for a while) if "Hug it out!" becomes a crowd thing. You know, two guys are about to lock up in a grudge match, or are circling each other in a really tense promo, and the crowd starts chanting "Hug it out! Hug it out!"

OK, it would get old before too long, but for a while it would be cool.

Yeah, when the tag option did so well they should've called an audible.

They need to make Harold an active wrestler, he's more over than most of the roster. Use whatever nonsense you need for a backstory: aspiring MMA fighter, former amateur wrestler, spends weekends in Mexico doin' lucha, whatevs. Have him shockingly beat Ryback and you get him as an even bigger heel and hopefully stop the Golberg chants at the same time. Team Harold up with someone upper to main card (or Health Slater, baby; I'm liking him way too much) to take on D-Bry and K-ane (NO!vaKane?)

In general the show was okay.
It is very noticable though that they build it around two longer matches and then throw a lot of short (garbage) matches in between that do very little.

The Miz/Layla thing didn't really bother me though it wasn't necesarry at all. It seemed like Miz was told to just disagree and argue about anything she said.
Which did lead to her saying that she didn't trust Eve and her manners, and then saying that she too would allow Kaitlyn to get up to her feet yet then say she'd take advantage too once she got up. Very confusing

Punk was funny with his pandering to the crowd.
I was half expecting him to do the "Chicago my home town..I hate it" cheap heel trick, but he didn't.
Sure, he walked away, but he made the crowd agree with him on it. He keeps walking the fine line between asshole heel and "ya know, he's right"

I assume Rey hanging out with Sin Cara will serve as a passing of the torch thing (and maybe? a "face vs face respect" match at WM?) and I hope it works.

Kane and Bryan were awesome. Again.
I got the idea that they were given 10 minutes and were expected to fill it no matter what. The stalling before the hug were hilarious. Like how Bryan seemed to go for a collar&elbow tie up at first. "He didn't hug me back"
And of course the ref standing there like he was checking if someone was tapping or not, taking it serious. Awesome stuff.
It's a shame we didn't hear more about family issues though during the sessions, yet the moment when Bryan said "I am beginning to understand you" after they dropped Harold was worth all of it.

Speaking of Harold aka Scorpio Sky, I thought he had signed a deal with TNA?
If so, this is an evil awesome move by WWE.
yes it makes the guy more popular, but probably not the way TNA would envision it.

The McMahons say a lot of shit especially this fall. I missed this one due to the holiday. Kicking myself for not DVRing it just for Punk and Kane/Bryan. Night of Champions can't come soon enough, put the belt on Cena during football season, so we don't care anymore. Why they think turning Punk heel is a good idea is beyond me and is probably more of Vince's ego thinking he can manipulate the fans to do whatever he wants. Which explains his Cena is always a face since 2004 when it failed in 2005 keeps going.

Having seen the opening segment now, it amazes me how they keep putting Sheamus in situations that get him booed, spots where they ought to know it's a tough ask. At least considering where they appear to want to position the fella.

Punk/Heyman. It's hard to speculate, because while Lesnar needed a mouthpiece, Punk is the last person who needs someone talking for him. So there has to be something bigger coming - if the plan is no more than putting these two together to get heat - that would be just another Vince 'trolling the smarks' move, right? I'll trust these two to just sit back and enjoy what they come up with.

Did the writers possibly think 'Hug it Out' wouldn't win? On a second viewing, gotta give credit to Mike Chioda for totally selling the importance of living up to the Twitter stipulation. (And Miz indeed had his shining moment of the night on commentary.) Botched "finish" aside, I think the Bryan vs. Kane Hug it Out Match moves into second place on my favorite bizarre matches list. Just ahead of Crash Holly defending the Hardcore Title in an amusement park ball pit, but still behind one-night-only GM Eugene booking Jericho vs Flair vs Lawler vs Tomko vs Tajiri vs Keibler vs Coach in a Musical Chairs match.

(This was after then WWE Champion Cena tore his pec 6 days before this No Mercy, 2007 PPV. And was in Chicago. Rumors of Jericho's "second coming" had already been out there to the point there was speculation they may bring him in early.)

If there's tyrannical condescension, it's because there's a tyrant that effectively rules his business and feels that he's been the genius going on 30 years now. But thinking that what worked with Hogan in 1985 can work for Cena in 2012 is as silly as if in 1985 he told announcers to break chicken bones next to the microphone on big moves like Jack Brickhouse used to do on the DuMont Network in 1955.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the demoted Matt Striker attempting to interview Aj and her reaction being "Who are you?". I guess that speaks to how insignificant his presence has become.

I am glad you brought this up because I totally forgot about it, but Chioda selling the shit out of this like it was super important made the Kane and Bryan reactions mean so much more. It is almost a shame one of them didn't complain to him so he could point at the patch.

I love great moments in refereeing and this was surely one of them.

Tyrant! Wow, that's a bit of a stretch, but then again I usually stick to the caption threads, like everybody else that thinks watching wrestling should be fun.

Sadly, I think the WWE does listen; no complaints about recaps and replays this week, but the show was still at a slow pace, almost like they take their standard 2 hours worth of writing and just make it into 3.

And this week really made me like Sheamus even more.

It sounds like Brandon Stroud of With Leather may have missed the fine storyline point of AJ Lee having lost her mind.

Granted, you had to pick up on some really, really subtle visual cues to figure that out...
