PREVIOUSLY ON IMPACT WRESTLING!
The student challenged the teacher...and lost, as Tessmacher challenged Tara and failed. Pope's out of the BFG series, so Robbie E won a three-way. Mr. Anderson challenged Bully Ray and won...by pinfall, which does him no good. And AJ Styles finally put an end to that horrific angle with Crackhead Claire.

We are LIVE from the Impact Zone! We start off with a video package of the Aces & Eights saga from last week, culminating with the group taking out Austin Aries.

Speak of the devil, we start off with AUSTIN ARIES, coming out in full suit and his hand wrapped in a cast. He's got the mic and it's promo time!

Aries: Aces...and Eights...I've always been a man who gives credit where credit is due and last week, Aces & Eights, you pulled out all the stops. You called in the cavalry, 20-some-plus men, to create a diversion. You had six men single me out in this ring and smash my arm. Now there's been a lot of speculation as to what would happen after my arm was smashed with that steel chair. People have been asking me, "Austin Aries, are you going to have to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship? Are you going to have to forfeit it because you cannot compete?" Well, you see, Aces & Eights, you made two miscalculations last week. You see, I have NOT been medically cleared to wrestle here tonight. But you see, I don't need to be medically cleared to FIGHT! Miscalculation #2 was this...I'm left-handed! You injured my RIGHT hand! I punch people with my LEFT hand! So here's what I'm saying! I'm standing in the middle of this ring, all by myself, the World Heavyweight Champion, the guy that has a "X" and a mark right on his forehead. It's real obvious to me that this is what you want. If that's what you want, it's sitting right here, I'm sitting right here, so tonight, I want whoever it is that's behind this to come out here and fight me! Hey, I got all night. I'll sit in this ring until someone answers my challenge.

Interruption comes from the "Not the nWo" porno music, as HULK HOGAN and STING come out to a whole lot of pyro. Both guys have baseball bats and Hogan has the mic.

Hogan: You know something, guys? I want the champ just to calm down a little bit, brother. Because we're not gonna go any farther than this, because we come in peace, my brother. I want to let everybody know here at the Impact Zone that I'm back, Jack, as the general manager. And the first thing that I would like to do is thank Sting-mon for running the show with his firm hand, brother. Well, now that I'm back as general manager, things are gonna go exactly the way Hogan wants them to go, because I've got the Stinger watching my back, brother. And Aces & Eights, you mess with me, you mess with this business, you mess with my family, and you mess with a lot of the brothers in the back, and all I have to say is if you guys want a bloodbath, we're here to have one. But Aries, I want you to know that we're only here for support, brother. We're here to take care of business and tonight, whatever you want, champ, you got it, my brother.

Aries: Well...that leaves a lot of possibilities, I mean, I've got a pretty long list of things I want, but #1 on that list tonight, Hulk, I think that's the same thing you want, it's the same thing all these people want, and that's to get my hands on the Aces & Eights. I don't care if it's the leader, I don't care if it's the biggest, the baddest, the toughest. I want one man in this ring, one-on-one, to fight me tonight.

Next interruption is from the ImpactTron, as we see the ACES & EIGHTS laughing over a poker table. Bane says that they're having fun with all the anarchy and that they're going to do things on their terms. They promise bad things for later tonight.

Later tonight, Kurt Angle faces Jeff Hardy. Plus, Samoa Joe faces AJ Styles. Backstage, we see Rob Van Dam and James Storm. They face each other next!

Ad break

The elephant is still in the room, so we go to ODB on the phone trying to reach Eric Young. She threatens to leave him. We FFWD to 10 minutes later where she gives him 5 more minutes. FFWD another hour, as ODB comes out of the men's room and gives him another week.

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES LEADERBOARD
1. James Storm - 66
2. Samoa Joe - 61
3. Rob Van Dam/Bully Ray - 55
-------------
5. AJ Styles - 50
6. Kurt Angle - 48
7. Mr. Anderson - 47
8. Jeff Hardy - 42
9. Christopher Daniels - 33
10. Magnus - 28
11. Robbie E - 12
12. The Pope - 7

We look at a quick video package to build up the last weeks of the BFG series.

ROB VAN DAM (55 POINTS) v. "COWBOY" JAMES STORM (66 POINTS): BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH
Tenay notes that RVD can clinch a spot in the top four with two wins in his last two matches, but will fall out with two losses. Tenay then notes that this is Storm's last BFG match.

Wrestling sequence starts us off. Announcers note that first place in the BFG series gets to pick his opponent for the semi-finals, which is a nice touch. Remember when TNA used to make this stuff needlessly complicated? Both men run the ropes until Storm hits a forearm for 2. Dueling "Let's go, Cowboy!"/RVD chants! Storm's listless corner splash hits forearm and Van Dam goes to work. Storm floats over to the apron where Van Dam kicks him in the head. Van Dam follows with a pescado. Both guys feel like they're moving at half-speed. We go to our next ad break.

We come back with Storm hitting a neckbreaker for 2. Van Dam comes back with the half-mule kick. Van Dam hits a springboard kick. Rolling Thunder gets 2. Storm hits a kick and an ugly DDT for 2. Van Dam looks like he's out and we kinda just stand around for a minute. Storm picks Van Dam up and hits the Eye of the Storm for 2. Van Dam reverses the corner whip and hits the somersault monkey flip. Now Van Dam just stands around for a bit. He looks for a corner splash, but Storm catches him with the Last Call in mid-move for the pin!

WINNER: James Storm - Oof! That was an uglier match than it should have been. Storm had a major off-night.

Post-match, Storm has a drink and sprays the crowd. Christy Hemme congratulates Storm on clinching his spot in the BFG series. Storm says he's doing what he set out to do since his return.

Backstage, Madison Rayne prepares to come to the ring, next!

Ad break

MADISON RAYNE comes to the ring for our next match. Rayne takes the mic and says that she got a call from Brooke Hogan, telling her that tonight she would get her title rematch. Rayne calls her out, but instead she gets...

MADISON RAYNE v. ODB
ODB gets a big pop for her first in-ring action in months. Now ODB has the mic and she tells Rayne that she also got a call from Brooke Hogan, telling her she had a match tonight. "The bitch is back! BAM!" Rayne protests these proceedings and tells Taryn Terrell to give her some preparation time.

ODB starts the match off with a good old-fashioned MOONSHINE MIST! Clotheslines, corner splash, and the BAM Driver finish in less than a minute.

WINNER: ODB - Ok, ODB can freshen this division up again if that's where they're going with her...

But they aren't, because here's ERIC YOUNG with a full suit, a bucket of KFC, and a beer keg. Tenay acknowledges Young as the star of Off The Hook: Extreme Catches on Animal Planet. I think we're about to blow this angle off, so let's get to it. ODB doesn't seem to like EY's clean look and she demands to know where he's been. Young says he's been in Hollywood and has become a success, but he has the beer and chicken. ODB says she doesn't recognize Young anymore. So Young leads the Impact Zone and DEAR GOD, HE'S STRIPPING! AAAAGH! MY EYES!!! I THOUGHT WE WERE DONE WITH THIS CRAP!!! ODB makes out with Young in the middle of the ring.

Let's go from one crappy angle to another, as we look one more time (I hope) at the AJ Styles/Crackhead Claire angle. Backstage, Styles acknowledges that this angle is over (thank God), but notes that he's not done with Kaz and Daniels yet. But first, he's ready for Samoa Joe tonight.

Up next, GUT CHECK! Oh, I hope they're BRUTAL this week.

Ad break

Bruce Pritchard, Al Snow, and Taz are in the board room discussing the latest Gut Check. Pritchard says "GUT CHECK!!!" like a guy with a hernia. Taz says Lewie choked. Snow says they're looking for potential. Taz says Lewie has a great backstory. Pritchard notes that there have been guys without talent, but with great backstories, though he notes that they need to examine the total package. Snow says his mind's already made up. Taz says he'll keep an open mind and we'll find out what happens.

Backstage, Hulk Hogan says he smells blood. Sting wants blood, but Hogan says they need a slow buildup. I don't think there's a problem there, buddy. Stings wants to see some Hollywood, before waving in the World Tag Team Champions of the World. Daniels ups the awesome ante by not only coming with his APPLETINI~!, but also by sporting a vintage X-Men T-shirt! Kaz and Daniels argue over who's going to talk before Kaz grudingly shrugs. Kaz refers to Sting as "Heath" (HA!) before noting that he and Daniels have iron-clad contracts, so they can't be fired. Daniels adds that they're the World Tag Team Champions of the World, beloved by millions of fans, and that they're all friends here. Hulk says they're NOT friends and that Kaz and Daniels are what's wrong with this business. Hulk says Styles isn't done with them yet, because...let's face it, a meteor is going to strike the planet, cockroaches are going to survive a nuclear war, Hell will come to Earth, and AJ Styles is STILL going to be feuding with Christopher Daniels. Hulk says the champs are going to fight and he'll tell them when it's time. Sting shouts and scares the shit out of the champs, causing Daniels to SPILL HIS APPLETINI! Won't someone please think of the appley goodness? The champs depart with Daniels muttering, "That's a good appletini, man, come on!" These two are incredible! I demand more of them! Sting and Hogan banter to end the segment. "He called me 'Heath'..." Holy hell, what a great segment!

Coming up next, Samoa Joe faces AJ Styles!

"THE PHENOMENAL" AJ STYLES (50 POINTS) v. "THE SAMOAN SUBMISSION MACHINE" SAMOA JOE (61 POINTS): BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH
We look back at what happened two weeks ago between Samoa Joe and Magnus, with Magnus attacking Joe with a chair after their match. Joe subtly shakes his wrist to indicate he's still selling that attack.

Joe tries to come in with kicks to start. Styles comes in and get a knee to the gut. Joe tries to stomp at Styles, who rolls out to regroup. The feeling-out process continues, as Styles shifts to a headlock. Joe powers Styles down with a shoulderblock, but walks into a headscissors. Vertical suplex attempt is blocked and Joe takes Styles down with an elbow. Running kick is caught and Styles traps it in the ropes before kicking away. Styles hits a big dropkick to send Joe out. Styles tries for a pescado, but Joe nails him with a big kick on the way down! Back in the ring, Joe hits a chop, a kick, and a double kneedrop for 2. Joe hits a snap powerslam for 2. Tenay shills K-1 Kickboxing coming soon to Spike. Styles and Joe exchange chops and Joe wins that exchange. Joe shifts into an STF! A GOOD STF, nothing like that shitty STF that John Cena always uses! Styles reaches for the ropes, so Joe grabs the arms and shifts into the RINGS OF SATURN~! Holy hell, Samoa Joe RULES THE UNIVERSE! Styles pulls himself to the ropes and puts his foot on the ropes. Joe hits an atomic drop and running boot to the head, but the running senton misses. Styles makes the babyface comeback with the springboard forearm. Joe floats out of a fireman's carry, but Styles seamlessly shifts into the Pele Kick...right on Joe's bad arm! Styles wants the juji gatame, but Joe's fighting it! Styles is able to get it, but Joe has his foot on the ropes! Styles hits a corner forearm. A second one is caught and Joe THROWS STYLES THE FUCK DOWN with a HARD uranage! That gets a big pop from the crowd! Joe tries for the Kokina Clutch, but Styles turns it into a victory roll for 2! Styles rolls up Joe, but Joe turns that into the Kokina Clutch! Styles turns THAT into the juji gatame, which Joe desperately tries to fight off! Styles is able to clamp on the hold, but Joe shifts his weight on top of Styles for the pin at about 9 minutes shown! And with that loss, Styles is eliminated from the BFG series!

WINNER: Samoa Joe - This is as good as a TV match is going to get! Fantastic work from both of these guys! Feels like an abbreviated version of some of their classics.

We go back to earlier tonight where Austin Aries threw the challenge out to Aces & Eights.

Kris Lewie is backstage. He finds out his fate in the Gut Check, next!

Ad break

Backstage, Kurt Angle talks about Jeff Hardy. Kurt says Jeff was a great champion, but he was in the Olympics and has faced high-pressure situations. Kurt says tonight is a must-win for him.

Time for the Gut Check with JEREMY BORASH introducing us to TAZZ, BRUCE PRITCHARD (who's gets booed by the crowd the MOMENT they hear the words "Vice President of Talent Relations," naturally), and AL SNOW. Borash then brings out KRIS LEWIE for judgement. We see Lewie's wife and baby at ringside. Man, they're REALLY trying to play the sympathy card and make us forget how much he sucked last week. Tazz commends Lewie for his life story, but ultimately says no. Pritchard also commends Lewie for his backstory, but he also gives him a no. No need for Snow, because it's a majority "no". Handshakes are exchanged and that's that.

Or not, because we see JOEY RYAN at ringside with a megaphone. Ah, I was wondering if they'd forgotten about this. Ryan's yelling that Gut Check is a farce. Ryan throws another drink at Al Snow and runs away. Snow eventually breaks through the iron grip of Bruce Pritchard and chases Ryan to the back.

Backstage, Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy are ready for their match. It's next!

Ad break

Backstage, Joseph Park greets Sting and Hulk Hogan. Park says he's been doing research on the Aces & Eights and has been finding liability issues left and right. He wants to investigate the A&E. Hogan accepts his offer.

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES LEADERBOARD
1. James Storm - 73
2. Samoa Joe - 68
3. Rob Van Dam/Bully Ray - 55
-------------
5. AJ Styles - 50
6. Kurt Angle - 48
7. Mr. Anderson - 47
8. Jeff Hardy - 42
9. Christopher Daniels - 33
10. Magnus - 28
11. Robbie E - 12
12. The Pope - 7

Here's a video package building up Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy's positions in the BFG series.

"THE CHARISMATIC ENIGMA" JEFF HARDY (42 POINTS) v. KURT ANGLE (48 POINTS): BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH
Announcers note that the winner is still alive, while the loser is mathematically eliminated. Jeremy Borash gives us the main event intros. This week, Jeff looks like Harvey Dent if he had gotten a face full of neon-colored acid.

Kurt outwrestles Jeff to start. Dueling "Let's Go, Hardy!"/"Let's Go, Angle!" chants! Jeff gets an armdrag and an armbar. Kurt comes back with rights in the corner. Headscissors sends Kurt out and Jeff follows with a crossbody from the apron. Jeff hammers on Kurt in the corner, but Kurt bounces off a corner whip and nails a clothesline to take us to our next ad break.

We come back with Jeff hitting the legdrop and seated dropkick for 2. Twist of Fate is countered with Rolling Germans! Angle Slam is countered with the Twist of Fate for 2! Kurt's corner charge eats elbow and the Whisper in the Wind gets 2! Jeff tries to move in, but walks into a belly-to-belly suplex! Straps are down and the Angle Slam hits...for 2! Jeff counters the anklelock with a wheelbarrow pin for 2! Twist of Fate hits! Shirt comes off! Swanton Bomb gets a VERRRRRRRRY close 2! Jeff regroups momentarily, but that's just enough time for Kurt to sucker him into the anklelock! Jeff shoves him off and hits the mule kick. Jeff wants the Swanton again. Kurt goes for the pop-up superplex, but Jeff has that scouted and is ready for it! He shoves Kurt off! Swanton #2 hits for the pin at 14 minutes shown!

WINNER: Jeff Hardy - That was a very peachy keen main event with some awesome counters and psychology! Very nice!

Post-match, Kurt sells complete disappointment before ultimately taking his leave. Jeremy Borash comes back in and brings out the BFG series' final five: BULLY RAY, "COWBOY" JAMES STORM, SAMOA JOE, and ROB VAN DAM. Borash tells Storm that he's already clinched. Next week, Jeff Hardy faces Samoa Joe, while Bully Ray faces Rob Van Dam! Give these men some pyro!

Soooo......this is probably a bad time to point out that Jeff's win only brings him up to 49 points, so technically, AJ Styles (with 50 points) should be in 5th place, isn't it? I'll just move on.

Backstage, Austin Aries comes to the ring. We'll find out if Aces & Eights answer his challenge next!

Ad break

AUSTIN ARIES comes back out for our closing promo. Aries calls out the A&E again. Once again, however, he gets the "Not the nWo" porno music to bring out HULK HOGAN, STING, BULLY RAY, "COWBOY" JAMES STORM, ROB VAN DAM, AJ STYLES, SAMOA JOE (!), and JEFF HARDY. Well...damn, this would seemingly eliminate Joe as a suspect. Hogan says they're here for support and demands to see the A&E's faces. We pan over to the crowd to see ACES & EIGHTS coming towards the ring. Aries says he wants the ugly one. Hogan starts bringing the roster down the ramp and calls for ONE GUY to hit the ring against Aries, who he acknowledges as their best. You mean he's acknowledging the CHAMPION as the best wrestler in the company by virtue of BEING THE CHAMPION? What kind of backwards logic IS this??? Bane waves down a pair to clear the barricade.

A guy in a leather vest and plaid shirt hits the ring. He outsizes Aries significantly and works his power advantage. Aries gets a double-leg takedown and the rest of the group hits the ring and here's the big schmozz! The brawl is all at ringside, as Aries takes it to the plaid guy with a corner dropkick! Aries goes for the mask, but...some random guy hits the ring. He puts his shirt over his face and he looks an awful lot like Matt Hardy! That is, if Matt were about 30-40 pounds lighter. He wipes out Aries with a flapjack! The roster tends to Aries...except for Van Dam, who's still brawling. Methinks he forgot his cue. Closing credits are up and we're out!

Up next, The Marine 2! There's a joke in here somewhere.

FINAL THOUGHT

The plot continues to thicken with Aces & Eights. I guess we're now ruling out Joe as a suspect and he was my pick for the payoff. I have no idea what happens now, but I guess we stretch this all the way out to the PPV.

Although that guy at the end...did that look like Garrett Bischoff to anyone else?

Love the way the BFG series has been booked, giving us great matches and compelling storylines for each match. Next week is another example, as Jeff will be fighting to get in while Joe will be looking for the #1 spot. Tonight offered some awesome, AWESOME matches! Some of the best stuff I've seen in a long time.

But that hiccup with the leaderboards is inexcusable. For shame, TNA!

"I LIKE WRESTLING!" -CRZ

Until next time!

Unless I'm confused -- which is totally possible -- Styles is out of matches, so he has no chance to get into the final four, while Hardy still has a match left. Styles can't score higher than 50, but Hardy could get as high as 59.

That being the case, is there still a problem as you see it? It looks right to me.

So: Storm and Joe have already clinched. Styles and Angle have maxed out and are out, as have Anderson, Daniels, Magnus, and Robbie. Ray, Van Dam, and Hardy are the only ones with a chance to fill the final two slots.

Interesting thing here is Joe has no real motivation to win his match -- it only determines whether or not Hardy makes the final four, since Joe's already in. The really funny possibility is that if Joe doesn't want Hardy in the finals, Joe could just walk away -- Hardy gets the countout victory but not enough points to gets into the finals!

Also, if this match happens first and Joe wins (or Hardy wins by DQ or countout), both Ray and Van Dam are in automatically (unless one of them gets DQ'd, in which case they would be docked 10 points, right? And that'd drop them below Hardy even if Hardy previously lost). There's some fun possibilities for stories there.

Actually, that docking for a DQ open up another possibility...let's see: If Joe beats Hardy, Hardy stays at 49, and if Ray or RVD get DQ'd they'd drop back to 45. In this case, the final four would be Storm, Joe, either Ray or RVD with 58 points, and AJ Styles with 50. Do I have the math right? If I do, then if I was Styles I'd run out and get either Ray or RVD DQ'd -- doesn't matter which -- and make sure that Hardy loses and gains no points. I think Styles advances if that happens! (Although it'd be pretty heelish!)

Thanks for the recaps, by the way. They are pretty great.

Ah, you're absolutely right! In that case, it does indeed add up nice and neatly, which is amazing, considering TNA's past history.

Ah, but this much I do know! Joe's fighting for the top slot, which would allow him to select his semi-final opponent.

And yes, the recaps are proving a lot more fun to write this time around. I really do need to credit whoever it was that turned me back onto TNA. (I can't remember off the top of my head.)

I know, right? I'm a little staggered that they actually followed through on the whole thing accurately.

Really good show and nice rebound after last weeks clunker. I thought the first hour was a mixed bag you had a great promo by Aries and a good promo by Hogan putting Aries over as the top dog in TNA. It was really good to see Aries get the mic time and put over the way he was because he had been a a bit of a afterthought and had taken a step back to the Aces and Eights the past few weeks. The RVD Vs Storm match was pretty damn bad. I place far more blame on RVD than Storm. They never clicked and RVD mailed in yet another match. RVD reminds me of a late in his career Lex Luger where he mails it in no matter what, but espicially when he's going to job. I can't wait until his contract is up in March. Storm on the otherhand seems to have lost confidence and swagger the last few months. The ODB-Madison match was nothing and the Eric Young stuff was terrible. I didn't miss Young. The Hogan-Sting-Daniels-Kaz backstage segment was amazing. All four guys were amazing as Daniels has never been better and Kaz for the first time in his career is showing personality. Kaz turning heel and aligning with Daniels is the best thing that ever happened to Kaz's career. I'm gonna guess we'll get Kaz and Daniels vs Angle and Styles at the next PPV. The Joe-Styles match was absolutely fantastic and very different than a match that they've ever had. It was a submissions heavy match and it made sense that Styles went for submissions with Joe's arm injured and Styles' deperation to stay in the top four. Taz is usually asleep but he did a great job in this match really protecting Styles by saying he didn't wrestle his match because he couldn't and that's why he lost. The Hardy-Angle match was really good with strong storytelling and great work by both men and a red hot crowd. Angle sold the agony of defeat after the match really well and I thought he was gonna turn on Hardy. Angle's sell really sold the importance of the BfG series. Really hope Bully Ray beats RVD in their match next week and gets into the BFg semifinals. I guess it will depend if he re-signed or not. Liked Hogan and Sting getting Parks to investigate the Aces and Eights and have him try to find out who is behind them. The closing segment was fine. I think the guy Aries had the one on one battle with was either Luke Gallows or Mike Knox, but I can't be sure. Heard everyone from Garrett Bischoff to Wes Briscoe to Cliff Compton being mentioned as Aries attacker. I really can't tell. I really hope it's not Bischoff. All in all this was a great show and it's amazing how much better Impact is than Raw right now.

I did wonder if Hogan saying Aries was their best guy, because he was the champ was a shot at Cena/Punk. Either way, I like it. Aces and Eights is starting to move into a nice direction of being the nameless faction that even after a few months is still a legit threat. I do think if it is Matt Hardy than I am not sure how much of a let down that would be. People know Matt, not too many wrestling fans know Luke Gallows. The only thing I see them doing is pulling a Kane with Gallows and having him keep the mask.

Love the BFG format and it is amazing how TNA can make TV matches seem important even if its for a brief time of the year. I do think we will get Bully vs. Aries at BFG, but they have teased a Joe/Aries fight since Aries began his push.

I am still thinking Joe will be behind it. During that promo, I actually thought it might have been Joe playing the "Bane" character. Just the mannerisms and man boobs seemed very Joe like.

I have a feeling we will get Roode and Storm at BfG, eliminating both of them as possible A&8 leaders. If the revealed leader faces Aries at BfG, it has to be one of the remaining BfG series final 5. It won't be RVD, Storm, or Hardy, so that leaves Bully and Joe. Bully has been great, but I don't think that would have the impact, and frankly, he does not really have the proper character motivations to start a revolution that Joe has. TNA has been quietly getting behind Joe during the BfG series, and his match against Aries a few months back drew rave reviews. Seems perfect to me. As long as it is not any member of the Bischoff family!

imagine the air being let out of the balloon of the Aces & Eights angle when it's revealed to be Jeff Jarrett as their mastermind/leader.

Speaking of Bully Ray, did I read this week that D-Von announced he (D-Von) is officially done with TNA when his contract is up? Dudley Boyz in WWE for one last run?

I think it's gonna be Jarrett and while it makes sense that it would be him since Sting fired him and was inducted into the hall of fame over him, it's still gonna suck. I don't know why Bully Ray would be willing to take five steps back and become a tag wrestler again when he's become a great singles wrestler and the best heel in Wrestling.

Or if and when Eric Bischoff walks out to front the group.

I've been hearing that while the TV ratings are slightly improved, the PPV buyrates are sticking around 8000 for B shows up to around double that for "major" shows (Maybe Lockdown did around 25000?). Bottom line being that despite a much-improved product, and whatever buzz there is about doing a live Impact - there hasn't been a game-changer in the economics, and now they are trying to reduce costs.

My much less informed guess is that Devon is what JR would call 'a useful hand', but he's not where Bully is on the card. If TNA is trying to squeeze money out of the payroll, I imagine the former WWE guys have somewhat better deals than the 'home-grown' stars from when they were brought in. While they could always beat Bully next week or at No Surrender, he just feels too 'big' a character for TNA to let go. (Unless he really wants one more WWE run.)

    Bound for Glory Standings:

    Storm 73 (-)
    Joe 68 (Hardy)
    RVD 55 (Bully)
    Bully 55 (RVD)
    - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    AJ 50 (-)
    Hardy 49 (Joe)

I was thinking they wanted AJ in the semis all along, but then again I should have figured that the Claire Lynch angle was supposed to keep going, so it makes sense that AJ would be involved with the WTTCotW. That settled, my guess would be they want Hardy in, and Van Dam out for the semis. Which suggests that Hardy wins first to get in, and you close with RVD/Bully for the final spot.

A small problem with where we are now, is that regardless of the order of the matches next week, I don't see any reason why RVD and Bully just don't shake hands at the bell, and walk out of the ring. A double countout moves them both to 57, and forces Hardy to submit Samoa Joe to get in - and still leaves RVD and Bully with a tiebreaker match. The only way to avoid this possibility is to have Jeff Hardy make Samoa Joe submit first. I can't think of Hardy ever making someone tap.

I'm sure it won't be mentioned, and Bully and RVD will just go out and have their match. Much like the announcers again failed to put over that Angle really needed the 10 point win last night. At least Angle was mostly going for the submission in his match, unlike Anderson last week.

- - - - - - - - -
Other than that, there's a lot to like about this show lately, and last night was a strong episode. Hogan and Sting have great chemistry going (K-FAB!), and are not bigfooting the roster like some authhhority figures I could name. Putting over the champ as a big deal even when he's not so much in the big storyline is nice, and this whole 'Bound for Glory' series is probably the best extended run of TV wrestling I've seen since the days of the SmackDown Six.

Even the Knockouts get their own developing stories. The EY/ODB thing was funny, but then I haven't been watching this show long enough to appreciate how much they may have driven the joke into the ground. My only real objection is the Gut Check - it was good that they 'flunked' an obviously not-ready-for-prime-time contestant, but the Joey Ryan thing doesn't fit so well. If they are going toward Ryan forming something like The Nexus, that's a problem for me in a company that already has a much bigger 'invading faction' angle taking up so much oxygen.

No Bobby Roode was interesting, in that no one seems to be suggesting that he's going to be behind A&Es. I still don't see anything that disqualifies Roode, Bully or Joe from being named the ringleader. Any of those would be better than another Jarrett or Bischoff heel run.

Roode was accused of being the leader of the Aces and Eights until he took a beat down from them and then he accused Storm of being the leader.

Roode could still be the mastermind and just take the early beating to out smart the others which would be sorta genius. It is a shame that TNA is hitting low buys, because minus the Claire storyline and some of the KO storylines, its been a pretty damn good summer for them.

I recall that last week, they hit their highest ratings for the Thursday time slot to date, so they're making some progress.

Really, I wouldn't worry about them too much. They get decent enough ratings and they have a great relationship with Spike (hence the occasional cross-promotion, like what we had with the Bellator guys), which is good enough for them to stay on TV. And from the looks of it, solid TV is the name of the game for TNA.

I believe it was the highest Impact rating of the year, but they've drawn better ratings before. The drew 1.8 mil viewers for like a month straight in '09 and have hit two million viewers a handful of times. I believe they've drawn two million viewers on the show after BFG the last two years, but yes drawing 1.7 viewers is good for them as they've been gaining viewers in the last month.

I've said it before but TNA's focus on the progression of wrestlers points in the BFG series, and highlighting how important their world champion is to the company is severely affecting my tolerance for the WWE right now.

I didn't mind the ODB/EY reunion. ODB and Young never stopped being mega over with the fans and it's not like the beer and chicken run was as time-consuming and melodramatic as the Crackhead Claire story. Plus it was kinda funny seeing Eric do a kip-up in his underwear.

"That was a good appletini man!"
"He called me Heath"
Kris Lewie getting embarassed (again) and denied a contract in front of his wife/girlfriend/twin sister.
Things that make me MEGALOLZ for $500 Alex.

Count me in as convinced that Joe is behind Aces & Eights. Also Count me in as still being skeptical of TNA and logically expecting an infamous "TNA Swerve" that Bishoff is behind it all. It won't disappoint me as much as Punk's forced heel turn but still.

I am enjoying the bromance between Hogan and Sting. The epic brawls with the invaders makes for great TV. (I wonder how they afford such a large cast!)

Joey Ryan is my favorite part of the Gut Check segments.

I'm curious as to what's the deal with Abyss/Joseph Parks. Does he still wrestle on TNA house shows?

My bad for not being clearer. I meant that (at least in the thread to that point) none of us Ws were making a case for Roode as the ringleader, that's all.

TNA's not doing anything revolutionary, but they're doing solid, simple WRESTLING booking the right way. Guys fight, and there's a reason for them TO fight. I think most of us don't necessarily want much more than that. It's great when wresting gives us something spectacular, but even I'm digging Impact more than RAW these days because RAW is a big, bloated monstrosity of bad comedy angles that lacks direction for most, if not all, of its roster. Despite TNA's penchant for overbooking in the past, right now they're doing a pretty solid job of basic wrestling booking with clear focus.

However, I'll still put down money that Eric Bischoff is behind A&E, with Hogan a close second.

I don't get how Bischoff would be a "swerve": Behind JJ, Bischoff makes the most sense to lead the group.

As for Aces & Eights, isn't it a little weird that Hogan, as GM, hasn't really devised a plan to rid TNA of Aces & Eights other than, apparently, "let's show up and they'll show up and we'll fight every week!"?

More heels means more compelling faces. More compelling faces mean more merchandise sales. I'm surprised the WWE hasn't made a new face stable ala DX 1998, and in lesser regards the nWo; those shirts were just as popular as Austin shirts.
