I think it's time to bring this baby back. Who doesn't love King of the Ring when it's done right?

WWE should take a long look at the BFG tournament, which is one of the best things happening in wrestling right now and steal some of it. Meaning don't try and cram a bunch of two minute specials into one show and burn everyone out. Drag this puppy out with actual wrestling matches a couple on Raw maybe one on Smackdown every week. There's three hours of Raw to fill now might as well have some wrestling in there. Have the finals in one of the PPVs winner can get a crown, but also a title shot at either belt.

I don't want to over fantasy book this, but it gives a bunch of guys some purpose, it gives us brackets to look at every week (ooh if Del Rio wins he will have to face Big Show) and we get to see some wrestling.

Of course they would have to have actual finishes instead of Tensai/Brodus double countout, because the WWE doesn't have the balls to make a winner.

King of the Ring is like War Games, something that needs to be a part of wrestling.

WWE has been running a King Of The Ring every two years (Booker in 2006, Regal in 2008, Sheamus in 2010) so we're due for another one here. Booker's reign was great and it got him a world title reign. Regal's "Richard III as a wrestling commissioner" angle was amazing and could've led to a world title reign had he not failed a drug test. Sheamus....uh, well, he got to wear a cape for a while. I guess the two world titles before he won the KOTR was a bigger push.

I'd suggest booking a face winner this year just for variety, though if Jericho and maybe Bryan are turning face, the WWE is in need of more main event heels.

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball

Jericho would be a good choice to give the tourney some cred back (same reason Bret won the first one).

It should go back to being an annual thing but not a PPV (tourneys never get good buys).

I say, put it on PPV and market it as John Cena's quest to overcome the odds and win his first ever King of the Ring crown.

The funny thing is, even when it's not done particularly well, the King of the Ring is still usually pretty fun. It's the most basic booking possible. You give a bunch of guys a reason to fight, and then they fight.

KOTR was an option in the initial fan survey when they went to all gimmick PPVs. It's a lot better than some of the flimsy stuff they've come up with like Fatal Four Way, but they really don't believe in tournaments drawing. Which is silly since the tournament always had main event title matches on top of it. Plus unlike the proud legacy of the Tables Ladders & Chairs show, you can tap into your own history and say we're getting the next Bret/Austin/HHH/Edge/Brock/Sheamus. The only reason Survivor Series is still around is because they can show old clips in the PPV intro.

More surprising is that with all the pointless 3-hour Raw concepts, they haven't dusted it off to fill a show since December 2010. I think the best version of it they could do was Booker's in 2006, the one that played out over four weeks on Smackdown with long matches and the finals on PPV. That'd be the version I'd use, especially over a one night TV tournament with three minute matches. But planning out more than one week of TV is hard stuff. They wouldn't be able to keep the brackets straight, let alone the finishes.

It's funny that stopped the PPV because they don't think tournaments can draw (and maybe they can't) seeing as how you can't really promote 1/2 of the matches on the show. They would only have the opening round matches, plus a World Title match and maybe a Tag Team match or something.

Nowadays that wouldn't matter since they only announce 4 matches for a PPV anyways, and just fill the rest with the RAW commercial break nonsense matches.

Here's the story that went around on the internet (all from memory): During a dark match at the OVW tapings, Seven (aka Mordecai, aka Kevin Fertig) was doing a schtick where he would lose his baseball cap and halt the match to retrieve it.
