It was a good comic-book movie, but I feel like Dark Knight set a higher standard than that.

I thought Blake, Selina and even Bruce had some wonderful character arcs. Of course, I don't think Dark Knight was as great as others do. I liked Begins more, but out of all three, Rising is my favorite.

If Ledger had lived, it would have been a totally different movie. The only reason Nolan was even looking for a new villain was because he had to scrap his original plans.

After sitting on it a couple days, there are some weak points. Where was "The Pit" supposed to be? Seemed like the Middle East, but Bane sure was able to get back and forth easily enough.

Where does Rises fit then, below rising of course, but above Begins?

I was going over the plots with my wife, and realized This was a retro-fitted The Dark Knight Returns, but they could have never called it that because then people would complain when Bale wasn't old enough or whatever.

As a bleeding heart liberal I was also put off by the blatant and heavy handed anti-capitalism/1% BS that THE BAD GUY was espousing. I find it interesting that some people have missed that it's basically a 1%-er prevailing over the "Occupy" movement. It makes me wonder where Nolan falls on the political spectrum.

The thing with Bane, he was using the downfall of rich to gather some people, but it was just a cover to keep people in Gotham. If you look at it this way, it took a now poor Bruce Wayne with government workers to stop the madness.

So again, it's really up to the individual whether they let their own personal views negatively affect their enjoyment of the film ...

As for me, TDKR got off to a really slow start ... Things didn't really start to click until the football stadium imploded; sadly, that was almost two hours into the film (but those final 45+ minutes or so were pretty glorious indeed).

Well, they did catch a group from the Cleveland Occupiers plotting to blow up a bridge.

And they clashed with the police.

I was actually having the discussion on Facebook about whether or not Bruce Wayne was Repulicna or Democrat.

Well, here's me. I don't know anything really about Batman from the last 40 years except what I see in the movies.

I liked Rises, but was pretty disappointed how many of the reveals at the end I figured out early. I felt like the end was pretty predictable. Not bad, just predictable.

I told a friend of mine that it felt like we sometimes have with Wrestlemania. The feuds are set up in such a way that we can all predict the outcome (not just the Taker match)

BUT since the ride to get there was awesome, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

I was curious how they'd portray the Catwoman character, but it was done very well. Don't think she ever really had a cat motive, it's just what the press called her.(the cat)

Blake's story arch was interesting, with him being the straight cop that Gordon was in the first one, and then seeing that it's not always possible to stay black & white.

The end was very gratifying, especially for Alfred imo.
Though if I were him I'd go over and then smack Bruce in the face for doing what he did

Speaking of Alfred...great acting.
In fact, I thought the entire cast was amazing.

I think this was one of those instances where predictable is good. At no point was I going, "This story is really going in a direction I hate."

But, the editing was kind of an issue for me. Certain very important scenes were happening, pivotal to the entire trilogy, but because they either didn't have the right build or were cut off too quickly, they just served as functional scenes rather than emotional scenes to get you to care about the characters.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
EXAMPLE: The Gordon/Skimaskman scene. This was the first time these two very important characters had seen each other in EIGHT YEARS, ever since the last time they talked when really bad shit happened.

There was no "Who's this guy in my hospital-- holy shit, you're The Batman! What have we done?" moment. Nolan just cuts into the middle of the scene and they say their lines, then it ends. No time to emotionally connect to the scene, it just serves as a functional scene to tell Batman he has to come back. We never really feel the "What has Bane done to my friend?" emotion we should really be getting out of this.

I think the story was great, the delivery was just a bit screwy.

Still, this is up there as one of the best movie trilogies.

I'm in agreement with the majority: Better than Begins, not as a good as Dark Knight. I guess my biggest problem with the film was that I've always considered Bane to be one of the Batman villains that Batman can't just punch his way through. Guys like Penguin and Two-Face and even the Joker, if Batman catches them one-on-one, he is going to knock them out and put them back in Arkham. Bane is stronger, though, and it means that Batman should have to out-think him, which he doesn't really do in this movie. Still, that's a pretty minor complaint, and overall I did like this movie quite a lot.

I have nothing new to add to the reviews. I enjoyed it, it wasn't perfect, but a fine ending to the trilogy. But...

...how has no one mentioned Matthew Modine as the Police Chief? Matthew Modine! "Private School for Girls" Matthew Modine! "Visionquest" Matthew Modine! And his hair hasn't changed!

Also, I don't think I've noticed before just how hot Marion Cotillard is.

I was stunned by how BIG the film is. The conquest of Gotham really feels like an entire city was dismantled. They could easily have broken this into two movies (to go along with Twilight and Harry Potter), and I'm glad it was contained (barely) to one movie.

I imagine that Bane had everyone in Arkham chucked into the icy river. They're wild cards, uncontrollable and potentially dangerous to his regime.

I look forward to whatever deleted scenes the Blu-Ray gives us.

The Lovely Mrs. Tracker saw Star Wars parallels: Catwoman's crisis on conscience, Bane choking a stooge, the Batpod as a RotJ bike.

The final shot cutting to the title card was GODDAMN GENIUS.

Great flick. Dark Knight was clearly better, but that's nothing against Rises, it's just that Two-Face and Joker are Batman's most iconic villains, they were perfectly written and cast, and everything just lined up perfectly in that movie.

Are we past the point where spoiler tags are necessary? Why would someone check these threads if they hadn't seen the movie yet anyway? I'm not going to use them so WATCH OUT!

I loved Bane's voice. It was a ballsy move to do that with the main villain in the sequel to the biggest comic book movie ever, and one that tons of snooty cinema fans will be seeing. Who cares if you couldn't understand every single thing he said? His tone got the point across fine, and it had more impact that way. Imagine some of the people in the stadium crowd. They know this guys is doing horrible things to their lives, and they are straining to hear what he is saying, but parts of it they can't catch which makes it even scarier.

I like that we never got to see what was under Bane's mask and exactly what happened to him was never explained. He was just a scary force of nature, similar but different to Ledger's Joker.

Like most comic book fans I guessed who Talia was pretty quickly. The bit with the kid in the Pit was unexpected though so there was still a nice surprise.

The end sequence was brilliant and made up for the boring parts in the middle. I can't see myself bothering to watch this entire movie again in the near future, but I will certainly spend 10 minutes watching the ending again sometime.

Aside from her first scene where she very gracefully trips Bruce and escapes with the necklace, Selina Kyle was a weak point for me. And I thought Alfred's monologues were too long and cheesy. The payoff at the cafe at the end was great though, so they were necessary pieces of boredom.

Whenever I think of Batman the picture I come up with first is Batman talking to Gordon on the roof in the animated series. I love how Gordon was portrayed in these movies.

They got me with the autopilot thing. I totally forgot about it and during that last scene of Batman closing his eyes with 3 seconds left on the countdown I thought: Whoa, Nolan's really going to kill him off! Great job with that, and, again, with the entire ending.

My order is Dark Knight > Rises > Begins, which is how most trilogies are for me. Origins are overdone, and endings sometimes feel too epic and overwhelming.

Bravo! Now begins the long wait until the next set of Marvel movies. It's good to be a superhero fan in the 2010s.

Seen it twice now. So, this is what I thought. (backofthehead.com) (SPOILERS)

Here's my nerdiest observation from my review:

While trapped in Bane's prison pit and healing from his broken back, Bruce Wayne was visited by R'as Al-Ghul (Liam Neeson)'s Force ghost. And like Obi-Wan's Force ghost did to Luke Skywalker several times, R'as mislead Bruce into believing Bane was his son.

Great review, John. It's the polar opposite of Harry Knowles' batshit-insane (pun intended) review. (aintitcool.com)

My favorite line:

After giving it a good deal of thought, I discovered the answer: I don't care. I don't care.

Exactly. There are several problems with this movie, but none of them ruined it for me.

I can't wait to watch them all in a row, uninterrupted.

Harry Knowles' ridiculous (i.e. worthy and deserving of ridicule) review was the funniest thing I read all weekend. He's a clown.

Note that Batman never drives a Tumbler Batmobile in this movie. Why would he? He has The Bat. Once you go Bat, you never go back.

Speaking of the Tumbler, I was kind of hoping to see its "bridging vehicle" capability, since there was more than one.

Also, does every Tumbler have a Batpod inside?
