Good old JR said in his new blog that WWE has purchased the old Bill Watts territory tapes.

As somebody who was a huge fan of mid south, this makes me extremely happy. Can't wait for the inevitable compilation DVD set.

So many guys got their start, or came into their own in Mid South.

I hope they do a Best of JYD or a "Rivals" set between him and Ted DiBiase. One of the best feuds that ever existed.

Anybody else hyped for this?

This will be a nice addition to the WWE-produced Sting set that will inevitability come to fruition one day.

You think they'd ever do that without Sting being under contract?

Randy "Macho Man" Savage and The Ultimate Warrior seem to think so.

Why yes, I am both a musician and a lawyer. Thanks for asking. :)

More likely they'll hold off on a dedicated Sting video set until he hangs 'em up with TNA. I don't see why Sting wouldn't do a 'provide commentary and promote' deal with McMahon after his in-ring career is over. Probably tied into a Hall of Fame induction.

After all, It's not like TNA can do a massive career review DVD with all his WCW (and other non-TNA) highlights. (And I don't remember hearing that Sting had Bruno-level heat with Vince.)

I feel as if Sting's TNA feuds with Flair and Immortal were in part TNA's attempts to provide them with replacement footage for Sting's 1980s/1990s adventures with the Horsemen and the New World Order.

watched a bunch of mid-south stuff tonight in the order I made from UWA before the sales freeze.

Boy, do I love jingoistic 1984 Bill Watts. He compared Barry Darsow becoming Khrusher Khrushchev to the Soviet satellite countires of Eastern Europe.

Also loved the unexpected appearance of Jesse Barr and Gino Hernandez in a random 1983 episode.

New here (Hi!)

Of all the territories I saw on TV as a child, read about in PWI or caught up with when I got older, I always missed out on Mid-South and UWF.

An accessible documentary and compilation's release is necessary.

I had a co-worker who would go on and on about JYD and DiBiase. Can someone explain the Stagger Lee angle?

Simply put - JYD lost a "Loser leave town" match and came back under a mask. Most recent example of this type of angle was "Mr. America" on Smackdown.

...or any time someone was The Yellow Dog. Got it.

Sounds amazing , the possibility of a UWF collection.

I also look forward to a ridiculous Sting documentary whenever Sting decides his time in TNA is over.

No real reason they can't do one now. They have all his WCW footage, he's been eh in TNA, pump one out now and hire Flair to host it.

I'm Charlie Owens, good night, and good luck.

I just watched this angle the other day.

There was a tag title match between DiBiase/Matt Borne (the Rat Pack along with Jim Duggan) and JYD/Mr. Olympia (Jerry Stubbs). The loser of the fall had to leave for 90 days.

The show was taking place during the Louisiana State Fair and there was a guy in a gorilla suit running around during the show playing with kids.

The match was supposed to be Ted/Duggan, but Duggan no-showed. Watts suggested he probably got in a bar fight the night before and was probably in jail.

Can you see where this was going?

During the Schmozz, the gorilla ran to the ring, bodyslammed My Olympia on the floor, jumped in the ring and speared JYD, revealing it was Duggan. He kicked out and then Teddy loaded the black glove and slugged JYD with it and that was that.

The next week, Ted was working a tv match and a little jobber called S. Lee was in the ring. Ted did the Ted laugh and then he unrolled a banner that said "S. Lee is Stagger Lee" and then the music hit, Stagger Lee hit the ring and beat up Ted and pinned him with the Big Thump.

FYI, you can still order DVDs from Enee Watts, at least until 7/22 (or the WWE sale becomes official)>

Wow. Sounds like an awesome angle. How about that brawl with Sting, Eddie Gilbert and I think Shane Douglas?

I'd kinda rather see Sting on his own documentary.

Commentors on this article say the following libraries are still independently owned:
Southwest Championship Wrestling
WWA (Dick the Bruiser)
Amarillo (The Funks)
Continental (Fuller)
Pacific Northwest Wrestling (Don Owens)
ICW (Angelo Poffo)
and there is mention of a nebulous "Memphis" library.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I'd assume he doesn't own IWCCW/IPW either. He owns Stampede and Global, though?

I'm sure Vince has bits and pieces of Memphis but not all.

I've never seen any Mid-South, but if this gives me a chance to see the JYD/Freebirds blinding, can't-even-see-my-newborn-daughter angle I've heard about all my life, then I'm excited. That was Mid-South, right?

I don't know that I'd ever heard about that angle until now. That sounds INCREDIBLE. I feel like they could pull off something similar today and create an uber feud that would last for the better part of a year.

Then again, after scanning the roster of current faces, there don't appear to be many sympathetic, likeable targets available.
