TONIGHT: Fall-out from No Way Out, including Johnny Ace getting fired at the PPV by Mr. McMahon. Apparently, he’ll give his final words tonight. Plus, CM Punk retained the WWE title and AJ was carried out by Kane…where do they go from here? When will the Prime Time Players get their tag title shots? How many jobbers will Ryback squash? All this and Cyndi Lauper (and possibly Kevin Nash!) coming up.

-WWE Open.

-RAW Open.

-After the requisite introduction, stills of Laurinaitis being fired (along with the audio from Vince were shown).

-And for the first time in over 20 years, Cyndi Lauper returns to WWE. I’m surprised she’s not in the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall-of-Fame yet.

-Mick Foley was introduced to the live crowd. Loud “Foley” chants from his hometown crowd. Foley talked about being on hand to promote Raw 1,000, but also, the Board of Directors notified him that they would be reaching out to former General Managers in searching for Johnny Ace’s replacement. He revealed that this week, he’ll be running both Raw and Smackdown. He made a tag team match featuring Kane and Daniel Bryan squaring off against Sheamus and CM Punk. Foley also reiterated that Ace has been allowed to give his farewell address tonight. He asked the fans to give a warm Long Island welcome to Johnny Ace.

We heard his theme music for what may be one of the final times. Ace limped out on his crutch, arm in a sling, wearing a neck brace. Cole said seeming him like that makes you feel sorry for him a little bit. “You got fired” chants once Johnny reached the ring. Ace did his introduction, but the fans kept booing. After a few false starts, he asked Foley to tell the crowd to quiet down. Then apparently he told Foley to tell them they suck, though Ace seemed surprised at this. He angrily told the fans they were “extremely rude” and he would give his speech later. But before he was fired last night, he made a main event handicap match of John Cena vs. Big Show, David Otunga and himself. He called Foley over and bitterly yelled “Have a Nice Day!” in Foley’s face.

As Ace was on his way to the back, Sheamus walked out. Ace kept his distance and smiled when he stopped to look at Ace. CM Punk was next, as he came out and had a few words for Ace off-mic as well. He pretended to kick dirt on Ace and then gave the “you’re outta here!” sign as if he were an umpire. Ace made it to the back before anyone else could get after him. CM Punk was to be on Jimmy Fallon after the show, which they plugged. Next, Sheamus and Punk face Bryan and Kane.

[Commercial Break]

(1) Sheamus & CM Punk vs. Kane & Daniel Bryan
Sheamus was sent to the outside by Bryan early on, but catapulted himself back in with a shoulder tackle. Back-breaker on Bryan for two. Cole said Punk’s WWE Title reign is the fourth-longest in the last 15 years. Punk fought free of a Kane arm-bar, then a minute later, ducked a clothesline from Kane and took out Bryan with a suicide dive. Punk came off the top but was grounded by a right hand from the Big Red Machine. They went to break 3:19 in.

[Commercial Break]

Back at 6:52 of the match with Punk getting Kane onto his shoulders, but Kane’s weight was just too much. Punk did manage to evade a chokeslam, however. Sheamus tagged in and took out Kane with a top-rope shoulder tackle. Running knee-lift from Sheamus, then a powerslam for two. Sheamus connected on the Irish Curse back-breaker and Bryan was again knocked out of the ring. Kane hit Bryan from behind, knocking him to ringside. Kane sent Sheamus over the top to the floor. Bryan hit a running dropkick. Charles Robinson and CM Punk were having a heated exchange when Punk tried to help Sheamus at ringside. Bryan tagged in and hit a low dropkick. Jerry Lawler kept the “goat-face” moniker going in reference to Bryan. Sheamus made the hot-tag to Punk at 12:18. Superplex off the top by Bryan. AJ’s music started to play and she skipped to the ring in a red Kane mask, wearing a red and black outfit. She skipped around the ring and to the back. That was enough to distract Kane, who walked up the aisle just when Bryan needed a tag. Bryan yelled at him, but Punk hit the GTS and Sheamus followed with the Brogue Kick for the pin.

Winners: Punk and Sheamus, at 14:21. I’m really digging whatever AJ’s doing. I’m assuming she’s working with someone to keep distracting Kane, though.

-Later tonight, will Brock Lesnar accept Triple H’s Summerslam challenge? Brock will answer, but they didn’t say he was there live to do it.

[Commercial Break]

-Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler were backstage arguing about their credentials. Ziggler called Swagger “the weak link.” Vickie Guerrero walked up and broke them up as only she can. She said she was tired of the two of them arguing and bickering. It was time for her to make a decision about who deserves her respect and admiration. She talked to Foley, and they’re going to settle it in the ring.

-Johnny and Otunga were sharing a laugh backstage about Foley when Big Show walked in. He asked what was so funny, and Ace said what’s so funny is how tonight is going to end. He said Cena can’t beat Show one on one, let along three-on-one. He said Show will knock Cena out, and he will pin him. Johnny said the people don’t deserve him and tonight, he’s going to leave a lasting impression that they’ll never forget. “I don’t find anything funny. Anything…at all,” said Show. He then walked off. Ace told Otunga that Cena will get his tonight.

-Dolph Ziggler came out for his match. He takes on Jack Swagger next.

[Commercial Break]

(2) Dolph Ziggler vs. Jack Swagger
Belly-to-back take-down by Swagger, who then celebrated with push-ups. Ziggler followed with a single-leg take-down, and a strut to boot. A shoving match ensued, of which Swagger seemed to get the best of. Ziggler was back-dropped and appeared to tweak his knee. He tried to protect himself, but Swagger dove at it to take Ziggler down. More work on the knee in the corner. The knee pad was lowered by Swagger, and he took advantage of the apparent injury. Swagger was small packaged by Ziggler, but for only two. Ankle-lock applied by Swagger and Ziggler slowly made his way to the rope, but Swagger pulled him back to the center of the ring. Ziggler turned it around and kicked at the mid-section of Swagger. Ziggler broke free and hit the Zig Zag for the win.

WINNER: Ziggler, at 4:09. Ziggler won, but he should tell Vickie to stick with Swagger and that he doesn’t need her anymore. I thought maybe the knee injury would give Ziggler an out to lose to Swagger, who needs Vickie more than Ziggler does.

Vickie ran into the ring and hugged Ziggler. Then they kissed and walked to the back together.

-Clips of Triple H addressing Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar last night aired.

-A black limo pulled up backstage. They went to break before anyone emerged.

[Commercial Break]

-Jerry Lawler’s Raw 1,000 moment was from October 5, 1998: Foley and Mr. Socko trying to cheer up McMahon in the hospital. “Damn it, leave.” And also, Dr. Stone Cold.

-Brock Lesnar’s music played, leading to Paul Heyman coming to the ring. A smattering of “ECW” chants once the music died down. Heyman said he was there as the advocate for Lesnar. He said he knows everyone in “the tower” caters to Triple H’s whims, then gave Hunter a word he’s not used to: “no.” He said neither he nor Lesnar would drop their lawsuits against WWE, and Lesnar will not fight Triple H at Summerslam. Heyman thanked the fans and Triple H for his time. Heyman began to walk off when Triple H’s music played. He walked to the ring to confront Heyman.

Trips said this isn’t a Bingo Hall and he’s not one of Heyman’s cronies from the 90s. He called Heyman “a habitual liar.” He said Lesnar IS going to fight him at Summerslam. Hunter said he can give Lesnar what he wants, he can allow him to be the star. Hunter had a Summerslam poster shown on the Titan Tron, and it was Brock’s face. Hunter said all Lesnar has to do is step up and agree to fight him. Heyman told Hunter Lesnar has no ego, a note which Hunter scoffed at. Hunter reminded Heyman that Lesnar demanded Raw be named after him. Trips said he had a whole building of lawyers salivating to get Heyman into court. He said Lesnar will do the match or he’ll go down as the guy who is scared of Triple H.

Heyman said Hunter is good and almost had him going. “Stop pretending to be a wrestler,” said Heyman. He told Hunter to go back to his job as a suit, because in Heyman and Lesnar’s world, he’s not the king of anything. “Are you going to hit me now, big bad wrestler?” asked Heyman, in his best smarmy voice. He said Hunter is getting to be like Vince McMahon more and more every day. He said he knows how to push Vince’s buttons, and he can do the same to Hunter. Heyman challenged Hunter to hit him and said if he did, he and Lesnar would own WWE. And if they did own it, they’d have nothing for Hunter. “But I do have something for Stephanie.” Hunter grabbed Heyman by the collar and Heyman said he couldn’t breathe. Hunter cocked his fist, but pulled up. Heyman realized Trips wasn’t going to hit him and began to smile wide. He said he can outthink Hunter every time. “You met your match in me.” He said he sees everything Hunter is going to do from a mile away. Then Triple H hauled off and punched Heyman, knocking him to the mat. “Did you see that coming?” asked Hunter. He told Heyman to tell Lesnar he’ll see him at Summerslam. Unless he’s afraid the same thing will happen to him. I heartily look forward to “Paul Heyman presents Monday Night Raw, starring Brock Lesnar.” They replayed the scene as Heyman was helped out by medics and refs.

-The handicap match main event is still to come.

-They showed stills of Ricardo vs. Marella in the Tuxedo Match at No Way Out.

-Next, Del Rio takes on Santino Marella.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Alberto Del Rio vs. Santino Marella
Ricardo was back introducing Del Rio. Del Rio went after Marella aggressively to start. Low dropkick for two. The announcers played up his anger because he lost out on the title match last night. Santino fought out of an arm-bar, but ADR delivered a headbutt. Hip-toss by Santino, but the diving headbutt found canvas. Santino booted Del Rio down in the corner, but as he tried to sneak the Cobra out, Del Rio gave him an enziguiri. Cross arm-breaker applied for the tap-out win.

Winner: Del Rio, at 1:25. Given the rumors surrounding Del Rio’s future, I was wondering if they might job him here.

Del Rio let the ring, but Ricardo stayed in and gave Santino the single-arm DDT.

-Clips of Cyndi Lauper from her previous WWE stint were shown, with “Girls just want to have fun” playing. Lauper’s return is next.

[Commercial Break]

-Layla was in the ring to introduce Cyndi Lauper. Lauper came out with Wendi Richter. The two ladies reminisced about the old days, but Heath Slater’s music interrupted before they could get too far. Slater cut a promo on the way to the ring and told the fans to shut up. He said what was happening in the ring was nothing but a train-wreck. Cole liked that line. “Who are you?” asked Lauper. Slater introduced himself as the one-man band. So, he’s lost “southern” and “rock.” Soon he’ll just be “one man.” Slater said he’s not going to let the ladies ruin his moment. He wanted to perform his first single and began to sing terribly. Lauper said she hadn’t heard anything that bad since her cat died. Roddy Piper’s music interrupted and he walked out.

Piper gave Layla a kiss on the cheek, kissed Richter’s hand and then Lauper’s. Slater reminded Piper that he never liked Lauper back in the day anyway. “When girls want to have fun, they call Hot Rod,” said Piper. Piper said it was the Rock ‘N Wrestling connection that launched WWE to where it is today. Piper took off his jacket and complimented Lauper. He was handed a gold record from ringside and said there was a great manager named Captain Lou Albano, and one time he had a bad day and hit Lou over the head with it. Piper presented Lauper with the new gold record on behalf of himself, Captain Lou, and the WWE Universe. Slater complained that it was 20 years ago and that nobody cares about it. Slater said he’ll have a gold record someday. He began to sing again, but Piper interrupted and poked Slater in the eyes, then Cyndi took the record and hit Slater over the head with it. Cole called it one of the worst segments in the history of Raw. Lawler plugged her new single “Echo” from “Bring Ya to the Brink,” available on iTunes.

-3-on-1 Handicap match still to come.

[Commercial Break]

-Primo, Epico, and Rosa Mendes were in the ring out of break. AW then walked out and talked about being the owner of All World Promotions. He introduced the future WWE tag champs, the Prime Time Players.

(4) Primo & Epico vs. The Prime Time Players
Titus O’Neil booted Epico down, then tagged in Darren Young. Double-team move by the Prime Time Players. Young worked over Epico with a rear chin-lock. Epico escaped a back suplex and tagged in Primo. Primo off the top with a dive, but Titus broke up the pin. Missed dropkick by Primo, but he hit the Backstabber on Young. O’Neil pulled Young out of the ring before a pinfall could be made. Primo and Epico went to dive onto their opponents on the outside, but AW pulled them back toward the aisle. They were content to be counted-out, apparently.

Winners: Primo and Epico, via count-out, at 2:56. You’d think they’d want to put the title challengers over strong after they won the #1 contender match at the PPV.

-Ace was shown giving orders to Show and Otunga backstage. The three-on-one match is next.

-Chris Jericho returns to Raw next Monday as Fozzy performs.

[Commercial Break]

-Johnny Ace was in the ring. He introduced himself as the former Executive VP of Talent Relations and General Manager. He said Cena cheated last night, getting help from five other men to escape. He said he and Big Show aren’t the losers, the fans are the losers, because they don’t have People Power. He said the next time you’ll see him is when he’s inducted into the WWE Hall-of-Fame. But first, he’s going to give the fans the biggest beat-down of John Cena ever. He introduced David Otunga, then the Big Show. They shouldn’t have come out, and just left Ace to face Cena. After all, why do they need to do his bidding and suck up to him anymore? They went to break before Cena could come out.

[Commercial Break]

-Teddy Long joined the commentators for the next match. Long took off his sign and ripped it up. Show got the mic and said it took six men to defeat him last night, so because of that loss, Ace was fired. He thanked Ace for his new contract and his big fat bonus. Show said he’s not beholden to anyone. Then said, he’s not even beholden to Ace. He said he proved he can beat Cena on his own and is off to bigger and better things. “I see no reason for me to compete tonight in this ring.” Well, there ya go. Show told the two men they were on their own. Show then walked out.

(5) Johnny Ace & David Otunga vs. John Cena – 2-on-1 Handicap Match
“Let’s go Cena/Cena sucks” dueling chants. Otunga, predictably, started the match off. Otunga posed before squaring off with Cena. Elbowdrop by Cena to start, then a bulldog. Ace backed down the steps as Otunga reached for a tag. Suplex by Cena, and again Ace cowered away from the tag. Otunga went on the attack and sent Cena shoulder-first into the ring steps. Hard shoulder tackle back in the ring for a two-count at 2:37. Loud “We Want Ryder” chants from the crowd. Ace finally tagged in, and that’s where my DVR cuts off. I think we can all fill in the blanks from here.

Winner: Cena, around 6:00.

Cena celebrated the win, slaying the big, bad heel after the match.

One year later, still no Ryder in Long Island. :-/

Only using Foley in one segment is pretty bad asset management by the creative team that put Vince in ten.

You know, I got a kick out of seeing Vader last week. It was a fun match, and it got people to tune in, so it was successful in a couple ways.

When Lawler said they were going to have a match like that every week until the 1000th episode, I was looking forward to it. Unless I missed something, did they not remember to have that match? Or was Piper coming down supposed to count as it (since Slater was involved too)?

Other than that, I've never been a fan of TNA, but somewhere in the past month I realized I actually look forward to Impact more than Raw. Nothing's changed this week.

Great promo by Heyman, and you know there was one way better just dying to work it's way out.

That AJ bit made me smile.

Why was Bobby Eaton out there with Cyndi Lauper?

Decent show, but I'm not surprized that Ryder wasn't used. WWE never uses their hometown boys as they should. Hawkins wasn't used, either - and he's from Long Island.

Speaking of Long...as in Teddy Long, I'm disappointed he didn't get a shot in on Ace. But...maybe we'll see him on Smackdown.

Thanks for showing up, Wendi.

AJ is hot.

This show was worth it if only for the exchange between Cole and Lawler, after Lawler talked up Kane breifly about how he always comes at guys full speed ahead, Cole's rejoinder was:

"You know, and he's a strange dude; we talk about his demonic backround..."

Lawler's incredulous "'strange dude'? 'STRANGE DUDE'?" was so appropriate that Cole evidently couldn't stifle a laugh as he tried to get back on point after that absurd comment.

Demonic background = strange dude

Really enjoyed the Triple H and Paul Heyman segment. There's some great Thor In A Suit vs. Fat, Bald Jewish Loki chemistry between those two.

Cyndi Lauper will never be able to keep a gold record given to her in a WWE ring.

And Cole was right: that segment was horrible.

crAyJ in the Kane costume never looked more like Harley Quinn.

I kinda like this evolution in Heath Slater's character where he just gets more and more deluded with each passing show

RAW last week: He thinks he can beat Vader
SD! last week: He thinks he can beat Clay
RAW this week: He thinks he's Jillian Hall
SD! Friday: He thinks he's The Boogeyman
RAW next week: He thinks he's an old Jewish man <-- Old SOAP reference nobody will get, but which Lawler and Cole may nonetheless use next week on RAW during commentary

I'm worried about Heath, he's losing words in his nickname.

Started off as One Man Rock Band.
Genre-ified to One Man Southern Rock Band.
Now down all the way to One Man Band.

Next week he'll just be One Man.

The week when his nickname shrinks to just One, it'll be the perfect opportunity for him to get humiliated by The One Billy Gunn.

If Heath Slater starts tag-teaming with his ventriloquist half-brother next week, I'm all in.

Yes, I was just proving that I got the old Soap reference. Why I felt need to prove that (or what I get from said proving), I have no idea.
