Just one man's opinion, of course, but here are a few random thoughts on NWA-TNA's third PPV:

The first thought is "Where are the other posts?" It's approximately twenty-four hours after the event, and I don't see any messages on this board regarding the show (that could change by the time I finish, though, as I am a rather slow typist). Granted, the holiday may have played a part in that, but if you're rooting for this promotion to survive, then this is definitely not a good sign.

I've gotta agree with tomk, replacing Jackie Fargo with NWA President Jim Miller was not a good idea. Incidentially, to read tomk's NWA-TNA Workrate Report on the DVD Message Board Click Here (provided, of course, that I've done this link thing right).

Just noticed that the Johnsons' first names are Rob and Ritchie; I wonder if someone was a big fan of the old "Dick Van Dyke" show?...After defeating the Johnsons, James Storm and Chris Harris are found laid out backstage. Hey, maybe they did it to each other (after all, aren't these two feuding on USA Championship Wrestling? Or am I mistaken?).

Gee, look, we get another jobber-squash match this week; and a local jobber to boot, as Anthony Ingram is from Nashville! No, I ain't gonna bitch; after all, they did this last week and I came back anyway, so the bitching would seem rather hollow.

Just my opinion, of course, but Puppet the Psycho Dwarf is gold on the mic! I love his catch-phrase: "A midget wants to talk!"

Gee, no limerick from Joel Gertner? Awwww....The Rainbow Express choose to tag in by kissing each other on the hand...and to think, there are people who say that workplace romance is dead!...This week it's Ed Ferrara's turn to give Alicia money. Afterward, Ed refuses to discuss why he's given her the cash, other than to say, "It's not what you think." Well, I think it's a STUPID ANGLE that's distracting the fans (and the cameraman, and the director) from the action in the ring. Glad to hear that it's really something else, and not what I think.

Call me Al, errr, Marcus: Buff Bagwell is no more....Ken Shamrock cuts a promo, and the "What?" chant lives!

You know, whenever you buy a Pay-Per-View, you always hope you'll see something that you haven't seen before. Well, here's something I've never seen before: A MIDGET JOBBER-SQUASH! NOW I'M BITCHING, BECAUSE NOW I'M GETTING NOT ONE BUT TWO JOBBER SQUASHES FOR MY TEN BUCKS! DON'T THESE PEOPLE HAVE ANY SHAME???...OK, I'm calm again. Anyway, at least they let Puppet do the hardcore thing, since he is billed, after all, as one of the "Hardcore Midgets".

From midgets we move onto women with whips (well, a belt, anyway). Since Francine still has his belt, how has Ed Ferrara been keeping his pants up the past two weeks? (Don't answer that. Please, I beg you, don't answer that.)....Now here's a life lesson for all you ladies out there: It's OK to whip each other with a belt, but don't whip the referee or you'll get DQ'd....Ed Ferrara again cops a feel on Francine, though this time she actually places his hand on her breast. Mike Tenay calls Ed a "hands-on announcer." Gee, I wonder if Tommy Dreamer has seen the tapes of these shows? Speaking of Dreamer, I thought for sure that he was going to lose the "Loser Leaves RAW" match to Raven so that he'd be able to join Francine in this promotion...Guess I missed that prediction by about eight million miles.

Hermie Sadler comes out with his posse, errr, pit crew....Next week we'll have Sadler against K Krush; looks as if Sadler is trying to replace Toby Keith as the number one face in the promotion.

David Young vs A J Styles for the X Championship is runner-up for match of the night IMHO (remember, I'm a Cruiserweight mark)....The Bobcat angle continues, but at least it does so without taking the camera away from the in-ring action.

Joel Gertner is GOLD on the mic....gee, I miss him and Joey Styles together....Am I the only one who thinks it's really unfair that Jerry Lynn and A J Styles get to compete in the final round of the Tag Team Tournament without having competed in the prior round? Perhaps it would have been fairer to declare The Rainbow Express Tag Team Champs, and then make this match their first title defense. Perhaps I'm just really thinking too hard on this one....Lenny gets Jerry Lynn in a verticle suplex and keeps him up for twenty seconds (insert your own erection jokes here)....Classic Old-School moment when Gertner trips on the ropes trying to enter the ring to break-up the pinfall (love it!)....Clearly the match of the night, IMHO.

Goldilocks and the camerman find NWA President Jim Miller hog-tied backstage with "FU" written across his stomach. Mike Tenay wonders "Who did that to him?" Well, it was obviously a less peaceful man than myself who was PISSED OFF ABOUT PAYING TEN FUCKING DOLLARS AND GETTING TWO JOBBER-SQUASH MATCHES IN ONE PAY-PER-VIEW AND DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!! Of course, I could be wrong.

During the Main Event Jarrett throws Scott Hall into the ropes where he crashes into Brian Christopher, knocking Christopher to the floor. Well, we know what THAT means! Sure enough, Christopher turns on Hall before the end of the match. BTW, I agree with tomk that Christopher is better as a heel than a face....Jarrett is still using the "How do you like me now?" catch-phrase, which means we either haven't seen the last of Toby Keith in an NWA ring, or Jarrett is a closet Bob Holly mark.

The night had been billed as a sort of tag-team showcase. Well, IMHO, you could call it the night NWA-TNA tried to kill tag-team wrestling. Take a look at the carnage:

The Johnsons - Turn on their manager.
James Storm and Chris Harris - Jumped backstage, off camera, and knocked out of the title match.
Apolo and Buff Bagwell - Buff turns into Marcus and decides to go home.
Scott Hall and Brian Christopher - Christopher turns on Hall before the end of the match.

And at the end of the night, the title belts go to a randomly-generated tag-team who weren't even entered in the tournament, Jerry Lynn and A J Styles. If I'm a fan of tag-team wrestling, I can't see this as a good thing.

Sign of the night: "I've Got Hermies". Close second (during the Johnsons' match): "Let's Go Dick". Honorable mention: "Get Well Bret" (on a pink placard).

Overall, I'm starting to see a trend in these shows, where the first half is shitty while the second half soars. Next week is a tournament to determine the number one contender for the X title, so, yeah, they're getting ten more dollars from me. That's all for now.

I can't see me spending ten on this... yet. I WANT to, but the product sounds like crap. I want to like a second promotion, but most of these guys don't do it for me. I think the only way that I'll get into a new promotion is if it builds from the ground up. Builds their own stars. That's almost impossible to do now, but I just can't get inot these guys that nobody else wants.

I actually went to see the show last night . Overall , I would grade it a C . I'm not gonna bitch about it though , because all seats were only 10 bucks a piece . There were a lot of technical problems with no audio when the backstage bits were going on , but they finally got that worked out .
It was a very dead crowd also . The biggest pop of the night I heard was when they asked if the crowd was ready for the midgets . ( why do people love the midgets ? )
The biggest disappointment for me was the world title match....that was a real let down .

Over all , I enjoyed myself , but Jarrett has got A LOT of bugs to work out , and DEFINITLEY needs BETTER booking ! Would I go to another live event ? Hell yes....at 10 bucks a pop ! Would I keep ordering it on PPV ? Probably....as long as they kept showing signs of improvement every week .

As the old saying goes , Rome wasn't built in a day .

And as for the WWE ... well , it's kinda looking like the fall of the Roman empire right now .

So , instead of bitching and moaning all the time about how bad WWE sucks , I think I'll just stick with the alternative right now....NWA-TNA .

BTW CRZ , THANKS for the recaps ! And to tomk at DVDVR message board for the workrate reports , thanks also !

First of all, what WWE have you been watching. The last 2 weeks have been widely considered very good. And as you said, Rome wasn't built in a day, but the WWE sure seems to be on the right track.

Now, onto NWA:TNA, I've ordered all three and I think this one ranks in the middle. I still think the first one was the best one, last weeks was a decent show, this one falls between, I thought the 2nd hour was pretty good, first hour was weak. I'm really liking K Krush and AJ Styles, those are 2 guys that they can build up, thus giving themselves a fresh look. AJ's still relatively new to the national scene and K Krush's WWF run was so bad that it's not going to be remembered that much. 3 weeks are enough to convince me that the WWF dropped the ball on that guy and not vice versa. His gimmick in WWF was just too dumb, this guy's got mic skills, charisma, and wrestling ability. Anyway, I'm still big on Hall, because everything he does makes me laugh, and I've had no problems with Jarrett (despite his need to steal my favorite wrestlers only catchphrase). They continue to show signs of getting better and I think, if given time, they can become a viable promtion, they're never gonna compete with the WWE, but they can still be successful. They do need to get that belt of Shamrock though, that guy sucks. His lack of mic skills and drop-off in ring work makes him a laughable champ. Put it on Jarrett and feud him with Hall, at least people seem to care about those guys. Or they could just give it Styles so he has all the belts. Whatever.

All in all, I'd say so far, so good. It's still better than I expected it to be.

I haven't watched much at all the last couple of months because I've grown tired of it , but I do hope they get it back on track . My reference to Rome not being built in a day was toward the NWA-TNA . I think for WWE to survive , the need legit competition , and it will take time for Jarrett to get to that level . I just hope people are willing to be patient and give this promotion a chance and not write them off so quickly .

I TOTALLY agree with what you say about K Krush ! What were they thinking ?!! You are also dead on about AJ Styles too !
I've NEVER been a fan of the crusiers , but AJ's performance was the most enjoyable of the night for me ! i'm actually pretty excited about this X Division after what I've seen so far ! Another you didn't mention B.H.S.R. , was Jerry Lynn....how in the hell did the WWE let him get away also ??!!!

The funny thing is.....the main reason I even went , was to see Shamrock vs Malice . And imho , that was the turkey of the night . I have always had the utmost respect for Shamrock , but he seems to be phoning it in right now....and that HAS got to change !

I thought it was a good show except the crowd was kinda dead where I was accept for the people hootin' and hollerin at the T-N-A girls.

The Good:

K-Krush is a lot better than the WW(F)E never showed and is gonna get major heat off of the anti-nascar angle, especially is this part of the country.

I'm happy Scott Hall is back on the wagon.I've always thought he was pretty good in the ring and he's a fave of mine.

A.J. Styles is a helluva athlete, his two matches were the highlights of the night.I know some people laughed when they first heard about the X-Championship but it' has become one of the highlights of the federation this far.

The Bad:

3 words:Hardcore Midget Action!!!!
My dad laughed about this for 15 minutes

Dick and Rod Johnson,see above.

Jerry Lynn and A.J. Styles Tag Champions.I really thing it would have been better if the Rainbow Express got the belts,it's also kinda good that now Styles and Lynn can have that "Me and you have to share these belts but I still want THAT belt" vibe.

Shamrock vs. Malice: Malice sqaushes him the whole match but Shamrock wins with a belly-to-belly,That's Believable.

Hermie Sadler,Professional Wrestler:
He isn't that great of a driver and I doubt he'll be that good of a wrestler. All the driving genes in his family went to his brother Elliot.

I thought it was a pretty good show and i'm gonna try to make it there next week.

I bought the first show and this one. It seemed like they had ironed out some more of the kinks - nice graphics, some replays, crowd was bigger, etc.

AJ Styles was very impressive. Haven't seen him before, but he was almost worth the $10 himself. Everything else was fairly solid - even when Puppet started caning everyone in sight, I laughed.

It's been said, but people should give this promotion a chance. A little variety is nice.

I'd love to give NWA/TNA a chance... but does *anyone* know an update on the situation with Dish Network and them? I'm pissed that I didn't get to see the Styles/Lynn matches. Compared to the "special" that Dish and WWE are passing off (the next three PPVs for $99.95 -- NOT $100 -- $99.95!!!), I could get 10 NWA/TNAs for the same price.

Why do I think that the average for NWA could be better?

I agree with BHSR, but they still have some room to go.

I'm a big fan of Hall, and a weekly show is probably best for him. I haven't watched any of the NWA PPV stuff, but I agree that the WWE gave up on Kwik way to soon. Sticking him in the black rapper role was dumb and doomed from the start.

Also if I had access to the event live every week I'd be in heaven. I LOVE cheap Indy events. It's been two years since one has been through here.

It just seems like they are building the promotion wrong. It's early so they may weed out the crap, but the Bagwell's and Francines are just a waste. You can make a new Bagwell and there are plenty of hot strippers out there to turn into Francine. Then the stuff with the Johnsons is just pointless.

If they put out a wrestling show that featured wrestling I'd be in. They still can and they may if they just et rid of the sideshow crap that really doesn't belong.

they do have great wrestling, X-division wrestlers will be main eventing 2 of the first 4 shows. Think vince would end shows with cruiserweights? hell no.

and the johnsons arn't that bad. their a solid tag team, and their gimmick is nowhere near over the top. If Russo was boking then it probably would be.

Jerry Lynn isn't WWE material. Period. Not to say he isn't a hell of a wrestler, but I think he's found a decent fit with NWA.

AJ Styles-the guy is good, I'll give him that, but I just don't want them to shove him down my throat. I'm already starting to get bored with him for some reason (after the last show where he wrestled twice).

Rainbow Express-I wanna' hate these guys, I really do, but dammit they're too funny! And they're pretty good in the ring, too.

K-Kwik is the shit. I never thought I'd ever say anyhting remotely like this, but I can't wait for his match with Hermie.

Scott Hall-I don't care what this guy does, he's gold. He's one of those guys, that if he messes up a spot, I just laugh and it makes him that much better in my eyes.

Also, I really liked the introduction of storylines into the show and I'm going to say it was my favorite of the three. As for NWA, all I can say is it gets stronger and stronger as it goes along and I can't WAIT for next weeks show. Also, I recommend any fans of wrestling to order. The lows are really low, but there's too much good stuff on there to miss. Also, I was really impressed by Marcus Bagwell's promo and can't wait to see where they go with this.

Just for the record Downtown Bookie , it should have been

WHOOPS! Would you believe I've looked at this thread at least two dozens times since starting it and I didn't notice that until you pointed it out? Oh well! SORRY!!!

Anyway, steering back to NWA-TNA, has anyone else here caught the Saturday morning "USA Championship Wrestling" program since it merged with the NWA-TNA promotion? The show, hosted by Jeremy Borash and Bert Prentice, airs on UPN 30 in Nashville, and features highlights of the previous Wednesday's PPV, along with the dark matches taped prior to the nationwide broadcast. I was just curious to see what kind of penetration this show gets across the country.

Yes , I've caught the show the last three weeks Bookie .
According to this item from the nwatna.com site......

" The Saturday morning show we are doing for Nashville (as well as Chattanooga and the America One network) has really started to take off. We are now taping matches before we go live at the arena specifically for that broadcast. You can check it out every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. on Channel 30 in Nashville. "

it will be on the America One Network also , for anyone that has this channel on their cable or sattelite carriers .

I have to imagine that the next big surprise would be Rock again next month, or Austin though that's hardly a "surprise" is it? The only other person I can think of is Nash back in his "non-wrestling role.
