I admit, I'll go see ID4 3D. ID4 was one of the greatest dumb summer movie spectacles ever, right down to the dumb 'ID4' tag. The Apple virus uploaded into the alien mothership deus ex machina will be even more ludicruous and hilarious next summer.
ID4 is part of an aggressive Summer 2013 for FOX, (vulture.com) which also has a sequel to X-Men First Class and a sequel to the prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes lined up. Plus Robopocalypse!

I was 12 years old when Independence Day came out and it was just about the greatest thing I had ever seen. I watched it again in college and it totally held up. It's absolutely one of the greatest blockbuster sci-fi/action/adventure movies ever made. I had an mp3 of Paxton's speech that I used to play every so often and it consistently gave me chills. Every time I see him in something else I end up thinking about that role.
I won't see Independence Day in 3D since I don't get much out of the 3D technology. BUT the re-release will probably remind me to watch it again sometime at home in 2D.
I'll look forward to that X-Men First Class sequel. That was a shockingly good movie that I put absolutely no stock in up to the point when I actually watched it. None of the posters, trailer, and various scuttlebutt on the film impressed me at all, but I had a lot of fun when I did see it.

There are a few continuity errors that bother me.
In XM:FC, it is shown how Prof X is paralyzed. In the opening scene in XM3, it is the 1980s and he is shown walking as he and Magneto try to recruit Jean Grey.
In XM2, Beast isn't blue yet. In XM:FC, he turns blue and can't change back. Also, Beast is credited as building Cerebro in XM:FC, but in XM1, Prof X and Magneto built it. That is why Magneto built his helmet, to block Cerebro. In XM:FC, he just steals the helmet from Shaw.

Actually, those films are for 20 FOURTEEN.
2013 looks insanely light for Fox. They've got an animated film from the director of Ice Age, a Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson comedy (If those aren't two people that have wasted their goodwill, I don't know who else would fit that description) and THE WOLVERINE (definitely not a sure thing)
And the rest of the year doesn't look much better. Die Hard 5, a Percy Jackson movie.

Oops. I can't read.

Here's the thing, First Class is an X-Men prequel, technically, but it's not necessarily designed as a prequel to the three X-Men movies that you already saw. It more or less sets up a new continuity, albeit one with a great deal of similarities to X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand. First Class and the movies that follow are not being designed to synch with the previous X-Men movies the way the Star Wars prequels were, for example. They're forging their own continuity with the First Class series. Confusing? Sure. But as long as the First Class movies continue to be good, that's what matters most.

I really liked this movie... I always considered it a light sci-fi that everyone can enjoy... Looking forward to seeing it again, 3D doesn't do much for me, but I will still see it
The Wife informed me this will be her birthday gift for that year. I really love ID4, only movie I saw 5 times in the theater. Really looking forward to this.
If you remove X-3 from the continuity which really is actually a win for the series, First Class fits fine. I liked First Class, too, but it felt like forever near the end. Too much Kevin Bacon and Fassander looking at each other. I was also not a fan of Mystique and Xavier's relationship.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.Twitter: @realjoecarfley its a bit more toned down there. A bit.
ID4 had one of the best trailors of all time. I'd put it up there with Jurassic Park as movies that put stuff on the screen you didn't think was possible.
That said, it doesn't hold up for me. Pullman is great, but you are at the peak of Will Smiff Welcome to Earf. Randy Quaid is horrible in it, and like Roland and Emmerich's Godzilla there are way too many plotlines going on.
When it was released, I was working at Universal Studios Hollywood. I worked until midnight the night it opened and tried to get into a screening at CityWalk after work. (This was the first movie I remember having round the clock screenings.) The 1am was sold out. I asked them what was available and they told me 3am. So, I bought a ticket and then watched The Nutty Professor to kill time. I ended up being there all night long. Totally worth it.
Here's some trivia for you: It wasn't the alien. This was an ad-lib by Will Smith in reference to the Utah salt flats they were shooting at; a few trillion brine shrimp were decomposing in the heat, evidently.

Fun trivia - I love adlib stuff.
Please please PLEASE let the conversion to 3D be worth it, not the "wait, is that 3D? I can't really tell" that was Titanic's re-release.
I had totally forgotten about the remake of "The Prisoner" until I noticed it had popped into yesterday's history page. Click Here (The W) Since that thread is from FOUR years ago, I had wondered what had happened to it.
