MEANWHILE.....

Orton is now free to be in the Sheamus/Del Rio match OR be placed in the WWE title hunt.

I imagine that maintaining their hold on the Brazilian market is more valuable to them in the long term than Jericho's short term value to them is. They made the right call in that respect.

I'm sure he'd be happy to take the PPV payday for another loss. He does not seem to be concerned about losing this time around.

How much responsibility should WWE bear to make sure their employees are at least somewhat aware of the local culture, customs & laws when they are putting on shows overseas? (I know they have the whole "independent contractors" spiel to fall back on, but still.)

This will make for a funny story for his 4th book. Keep in mind that Jericho was about to get time off for a Fozzy tour anyway so this is a secretly empty gesture (don't tell Brazil).

Or part of the plan.

"Chris, punt this flag, then when the cops rush the ring...."
"THE COPS?"
"Let me finish. When the cops rush the ring, apologize and go with it."
"And the cops will rush the ring because..?"
"They're not going to shoot you or anything, just go with it. WWE.com needs some hits, and you need time off for your Fozzy tour. This way, everybody wins."

I'm Charlie Owens, good night, and good luck.

Hmm. I'm not sure if that's incredibly cynical, or bang-on-the-money.

This is a risk one takes when you unnecessarily have the flag in the ring to begin with. It's not like CM Punk is Brazilian!

But he does study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Not sure what the rules are in Jiu Jitsu but I know in a traditional Tae Kwon Do school, you're expected to pay respects to the Korean flag.

But if the WWE starts suspending everyone who offends a culture, I'm pretty sure we'll finally get that off-season people have been debating for years.

If they need a guy to job to Orton at No Way Out, let me be the first to recommend Kane. Kane is an excellent jobber, I'm sure he can be spared from whatever plans they have for him otherwise.

Spot on. It's their first tour of a completely new market and one of the main stars not only breaks the law but does so in such a way that could offend a good number of the people there and cause a shitload of bad press for the company in a country they're only just breaking into. They made completely the right decision. It doesn't really matter what we think of the flag law. I thought the uproar over the national anthem interruption was ridiculous but I completely understand why Finlay had to be the fall guy in that situation too.

Fozzy already announced their tour plans, so it's not like it was some secret as to when Jericho was leaving. It's funny, he did an interview on WWE.com just the other day joking about how everyone wants to know when he's leaving, like everyone just wants to get rid of him...

According to Fozzyrock.com: they're playing the U.K. June 6-11 then they open the Uproar Festival in the U.S., which doesn't start until August 15. I had figured Chris would be sticking around at least through July.

I presume this is sarcasm because...Wrestlemania?

Are there any reports on what the crowd reaction was to all of this? Was it a bunch of cops that just decided that this needed to be shutdown or was there real outrage in the crowd?

From the odd person who claims to have been there, the crowd treated it like any other cheap heel tactic. The couple quick videos I've seen don't seem to show any real outrage from the fans.

Since it's against the law, the cops probably just stepped in because of that. Same way they would if the Chili Peppers decided to do another Sock Puppet Show after a concert. The crowd may dig it, but if the law says it's illegal, it is.

You presume correctly, other than the 'because'. For me at least, because I've heard rumblings that the plan for No Way Out is Punk vs Bryan... vs Kane in a Triple Threat.

I'd like my rematch straight-up, please.

I guess the three way would allow danielson to win the belt without punk doing the job. Classic 90s wwf booking.

Or Kane wins the belt at the PPV (Punk doesn't wanna lay down for Bryan, because he doesn't think that Bryan is "ready" yet) and Bryan becomes the new champ one night later on RAW - classic 90s WWF booking.

In that case they need a governor lookalike to be the special referee. Hopefully Daffney is healed up enough to do that.

Did this happen to anyone else? Throughout the entire broadcast, there was a transparent "watermark" of the Wendy's logo in the bottom lefthand corner of the screen. Just a glitch with our local CW network, or subliminal advertising?
