"Extra" host Maria Menounos has a secret as she rehearses with dance partner Derek Hough for week two of "Dancing With the Stars."
Word on the show is Menounos broke a rib during a hardcore rehearsal with Hough, who was teaching her the Cha-cha-cha.
A source close to the "Extra" host said, "She has been in excruciating pain for the past few weeks during rehearsals, but she is staying strong and working through it. She refuses to give up."
Menounos is even hiding a rib brace underneath her sexy gear, the source added.
Not surprising considering the number of people on Dancing with the Stars that suffer injuries, especially early in the season. It makes you wonder why the WWE felt so desperate to get her for Wrestlemania that they didn't push a "do not do any risky activity without our consent" cause in the contract.
As for your title, it could have been worse. You could have said "Wrestlemania talent breaks rib. Says 'we can't see them' on RAW..." and then start the thread with "...because they're on Dancing with the Stars on Mondays."
Despite Mr. Z's belief that most people who watch TV in America know her, I still have no idea who this woman is or why she's important to the WM card. Regardless, I don't see how this changes the WWE's plans -- she's not likely to get that physical anyway, and I certainly didn't expect her to take any bumps despite her previous in-ring appearances (which I never saw). Tough luck though, broken ribs SUCK.

Would doing DWTS count as "risky activity" though? Because I can't see her leaving the show to do a one-off Mania appearance.

Every year there's a couple people who injury themselves so bad that they have to quit DwtS. If I remember right, Jericho messed up his back pretty bad and had to rehab it afterwards even though he didn't drop out from the show.
It was known that Maria was on DwtS well before the WWE started this angle with her and their divas. It makes it weirder that even though this is 'just' the divas match, that they would take the chance on someone who may not be able to preform at the show, and also would be unable to appear on any pre-WM Raws to promote the PPV. I get they all like her from previous appearances, but it doesn't look like this booking was well thought out considering the injury could have been much worse.
They showed practically the entire "Extra" segment setting up this match last week on RAW. That's the WM promotion they were looking for: a free ad for WrestleMania to the viewers of "Extra" (who might otherwise be blissfully ignorant about WrestleMania AND, possibly, also frequently post to message boards words to the effect of "well, "I don't know who [ Kelly Kelly | Beth Phoenix | Eve Torres ] is" ).
Continuing to say "I don't know who Maria Menounos is" is an admission that you're not watching the TV - which is fine, but don't take it as a badge of honour when we're talking about the TV.
WWE probably took a gamble on Menounos coming out unscathed feeling that the promotional result was worth it AND playing the odds that it is massively more likely that the celebrity comes out of DWtS uninjured than injured.
If I recall correctly, Menounos also injured herself the day of her RAW match when she guest hosted, right? Oh, wait, you don't watch RAW, I forgot. ;-) Well, maybe she can bring in a surprise replacement: SHAQ

I think you can watch Raw weekly and still not know who she is.
I watch Raw pretty much every week, for better or worse. And I know who she is in the context of wrestling: some host from some entertainment gossip show that I will never have an interest in. She obviously loves wrestling and will be wrestling at Wrestlemania. That's all well and good. But I have never heard of her outside of wrestling. I don't watch her show, whatever it is (I know they said the name on Raw many times, but I don't care) and I have an equal lack of interest in Dancing With The Stars.
So from there it's splitting hairs over whether "I don't know who she is" can mean "I have no knowledge of this celebrity's body of work" vs. "I have never heard of this person before right this second."
Turns out she's got two broken ribs, so she's more than likely out. Maybe ringside, but she's not going to be hiptossing anybody. So, now do they try to bring in Trish for one night to take her spot? Lita? Madusa? Pregnant Snooki?
Well Madusa has been trying to work an angle for months now on Twitter against Phoenix, and she does bring the coveted Monster Truck audience with her...
Well, here's your match to get bumped to the pre-show.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball
