Honestly, I think a lot of the speculation we've seen from talking heads over what would influence Peyton's decision - playing indoors, nice weather, FA signings, divisional competition etc - was just so much twaddle to fill column inches.
I'd imagine his view would be that any decent team plus himself would be a genuine contender. Assuming the team in question isn't just terrible at playing football it probably came down to more personal factors - how he got on with the coaching staff/owners, how impressed he was by the pitches to get him, how happy any family he has would be with him living in City X - but it's tough for sports writers to fill 800 words on that sort of stuff without being in his head, so instead they pontificate about a bunch of things that, while more tangible, really didn't matter that much at all.
This is a kind of gutsy move to bench the guy that just took your team to the playoffs, regardless of the outcome, for a guy just coming off of major neck surgery.
Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

No "seems" about it - Tebow has been screwed as hard as it gets by Peyton's choice. I don't blame Denver at all for the decision, but damn it, Tebow earned the right to have an offseason and training camp of support towards being a full-time starter, and now unless Jacksonville's owner forces Tebow on his staff as the only guy who can sell the stadium out, that's all gone, and it's not right by any means. There were other, better places Peyton could have gone without displacing a young, learning QB whom many are already predisposed against giving chances, and this just becomes another bullet on the list of reasons I don't like Peyton.
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; June 18, 2006) While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

He is displacing a young, learning QB whom many believe isn't any good and whose team was eager to displace him? What a bastard. He brazenly toyed with the life of Alex Smith too.

I am not sure why Peyton should care about either Tebow or Alex Smith. (or any other QB for that matter) Peyton wants to play somewhere for Peyton, not for anyone else.
Should Spencer Johnson and Alex Carrington and whoever else was a DE on the Buffalo Bills be mad at Mario Williams for choosing the come to Buffalo too?
It's the Denver management that screwed Tebow over. They are the ones who decided they wanted Peyton over Tebow...

I didn't think I'd like it here at all
But, I swear, I swear I'm on the verge
I really don't know if i have strong feelings one way or the other but "How is Tim Tebow being screwed?" The NFL is a business, a big one, and any responsible member of management is trying to improve their team with the goal of winning a Superbowl.
I understand the fan aspect of this since I have my team. I understand the feelings of players like Tebow and Smith. In almost any business, if you have the chance to gain a competitive edge, legally, most would take it.
If anything it's apparent in the NFL, that a player is foolish to have loyalty to the "team" since it has none for him.
Look, I know I was lurking in a Football board during the offseason, thus this is kind of stupid, but since when do huge offseason moves mean anything?
Two years ago it was the Jets as the sure thing in the league with the moves they pulled. Last year it was the Eagles. This year the Broncos. Granted, this might just be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, but the Chiefs won literally zero SuperBowls when they got Joe Montana.
Don't get me wrong, Denver is still okay; Miller and Dumervil coming from the outside, draft a hoss lining up at defensive tackle, and they still take the AFC West next year.
Tebow could really only wind up in a few places; Minnesota will throw anybody in a purple jersey if they think they'll win a game or two for them. The Jets are in contention according to what I saw on the scroll on ESPN today and love to do anything that'll get them more PR than the Giants (except, you know, win a god damned title). Honestly, the best place is Denver; he learns from Manning, and Manning gets himself a new Dallas Clark. As far fetched as it sounds, Manning to Tebow all year long for solid yardage; hell, only real question is if Tebow can pass block.
But, alas, none of this matters come next November when they've actually played the games to see what just sounded good on paper.

I think I can say with some confidence that Mr Shapiro was making with the funny.

Nobody screwed Tebow over. If there's a free agent out there who's better than a guy you've got starting then it's perfectly reasonable for the team to go after him.
