This is literally the pinnacle of WWE's even-steven booking that they feel they have to neuter the friggin' Rock as he's returning for this huge match in his hometown.

Last two weeks, okay, but you really think the "Rock's concert" segment was down to WWE creative? Maybe - gasp! - Rock's act isn't as fresh and exciting as it once was.

Better finish to John Cena vs. Mark Henry:

Rock and 2012 HOF inductee Ron Simmons run in to help Henry beat down Cena, then they raise the power fist.

Cena and Henry attack Rock and Ron Simmons joins them, forming the Cenation of Domination.

I can't decide.

I don't know if you are supposed to feel dirty after a Raw or not, but I did. Making fun of breast surgeries, abusive relationships and drunk dads. Yeah,, this is what is needed going into Mania. I am interested to see if the Eve comment makes as much headlines as the notes on the wrist, but I doubt it. Speaking of Eve, Zack went from one of the rising stars of the WWE into a secondary thought in the women's division. We also don't need the Bellas burying Rock either for the little work they do. Speaking of the little people do in this company. Undertaker needs to work on his promos. HHH playing mind games with Shawn is clever.

Although I loved old Cena back I agree with TheOldMan is this going to stay? I kinda doubt it and panning to the kids after Cena said chicken shit was probably no the best idea in the world. Johnny O hit on the head to, its more like Rock pulling the old John Cena out instead of Cena pulling the Rock out. Rock is entertaining for the live crowd and yes, he is kissing fan ass, but so is Cena talking about living and dying for the WWE. To me, I am looking forward to something happening in this feud. I also wonder how much of this is IWC thinking where people hate on the more popular guy. I didn't even bother with Rock's concert, because I was so disgusted by the Jericho promo plus, its done mainly for the live crowd. Rock's best promos were last week including getting in Cena's face and since Cena decided to no sell it is not Rock's fault, its Cena being unprofessional.

This show seem to be the darkness spreading episode before Mania we usually get. Where our heroes are facing impossible odds. Teddy's team looks weak against Mark Henry and O-terrible. Jericho drops a devastating bombshell on Punk and Sheamus has a grueling fight with Zigs while Daniel and AJ look on like the Lannisters. Even Taker got out thought it looks like HHH. While I like the idea of those episodes, I think WWE really crossed a line here and it didn't need to.

Oh shit. I would pay cash money for a sudden, disgusting reveal that AJ's last name is secretly Bryan (or Danielson) and this has been a twisted Game of Thrones incest angle, which Hornswoggle suddenly discovers, and Daniel is forced to throw Hornswoggle out of the skybox.

I hope all the Simpsons uber-fans around here enjoyed the random AHOY HOY! sign that appeared during the HBK/Taker promo. (And there was that EXPLAIN GTV one right along the entrance ramp.)

It's completely taken over my imagination.

Someone on the Internet NEEDS to remix the "Damn it feels good to be a Lannister" rap for D-Bry and AJ: "Damn it feels good to be a Danielson".

Its not fake, that is true and possibly abusive too that is why Punk has not love for people like Chris Brown. There is no need for this to be a feud about who the best wrestler is, its trash tv.

"Vanilla Ice and a TeleTubby." And I thought JR's references were dated.

Rock's promo was helped by a manic audience. His ability to read and play to a crowd hasn't rusted a bit. That's why this worked.

Swagger worked the main event against Orton, and I'm glad, but he has not progressed at all since winning the world title. He needs to play the goofy face like Santino and Kofi. Kids will love The All-American American. Have him be chummy with Sheamus.

Punk's father was an alcoholic, but I'm pretty sure Punk himself has said he wasn't abusive or a blight on his life or any of that shit. The very fact that Punk is okay with this should be a tip-off that it's not as big a deal as the promo made it out to be.

I also have no problem with asshole heel Jericho trying to crack Punk's "best in the world" facade by needling him over something as kayfabe-emotional as that. If Jericho brings Punk's father out and puts him the Liontamer, fair enough, but a heel trying to character-assassinate an edgy, super-confident face by pointing out that said face's attitude comes from a place of personal pain is a good story to tell.

Wasn't Punk's Dad used in angle with Raven in ROH?

I may be misremembering already, but was Mark Henry wearing Smackdown Blue last night? Teddy Long's secret agent!

After Cena pulled the Cenaface right as Rock tried to take things seriously with the "I'm a giant Samoan dude who will rip your throat out", they kind of had to go back to the wacky comedy last night. This feud is basically in a holding pattern until they finally do the pull-apart that will end the last Raw before 'Mania, which isn't helping either guy, especially The Rock.

They kind of peaked with Cena dropping the notes-on-the-wrist thing and the "Oh my god, that was for real!" response they got from a surprising amount of internet people who usually pretend they know better. Much credit to Cena for pulling that off multiple times in the last few weeks - and I feel pretty confident giving him credit for the "let's work everybody", as his call back to The Rock's mysterious love for tracksuits last night was just the latest bit of proof that Cena's the true king of smark references among WWE personnel (eat it, Striker!).

Boy, that Jericho-Punk thing took a weird turn, didn't it? I actually felt like that feud was in the second best shape (behind Teddy vs. Ace, which continues to shock me every week with how over it is) last week. Jericho sold the "I can beat this guy!" moment and Punk sold the hell out of "Uh oh, this guy can actually beat me..." in about three seconds of reaction time. So, yeah, this seems like it's coming in about a month/week too late, but maybe they feel like they need to step it up so as not to be overshadowed by the increasing bits added to HHH/UT?

I dunno, I'm not ethically opposed to it or anything, and Jericho sold the idea that he was so joyfully emboldened by one win over Punk that he would immediately go to "I should wreck this guy's life, too!" And Punk sold the secret shame well enough (and is apparently taking it to twitter)...but it just feels like this should be the angle for the rematch. It would be awesome, though, if Jericho came out next week and cut a condescending "Hey, I went too far last week, guy, my bad! We're good, right?" promo.

As it turns out, the only person in the Undertaker/HHH feud suited to do the "Let's Talk For 20 Minutes About How Important We Are" HHH Main Event Promo Style is Michaels, who is considerably better than the other two at circling around to remake the same point multiple times. They are doing Taker no favors with these kinds of promos. Throw the guy a bone next week and just have him come out and menacingly tape his fists at Michaels after HHH and HBK do their "You're great!" "No, you're great!" Five Timers Club handshake.

Serious question: Michaels superkicks them both back-to-back before they go into the final Pedigree reversed into Last Ride spot, right? Because the idea of having HHH win after Michaels screws Taker is unthinkable, even for HHH. And the idea of having Undertaker win after HBK superkicks HHH is...incredibly thinkable, honestly, but they wouldn't ever actually do that, would they?

Does Maria Menounos take Shaq's spot as the celebrity wrestler now? Ryder/Eve vs. Beth/Mario Lopez. Book it!

Sheamus/Bryan had the best week by default. Seems kind of impossible that Sheamus doesn't win for multiple reasons (the Rumble winner has to win at 'Mania after so many losses, Sheamus is a big, goofy guy they'd be nuts not to get behind promoting them at Kids' Choice Awards for years to come)...but man, Bryan really should win, not only because his Vegan Macho Man act is pretty fantastic, but also because if Sheamus wins a world title at Wrestlemania, he will almost literally have done pretty much everything he could possibly do this early in his career save unify the belts or break The Streak. He'll have won both belts, the Royal Rumble, King of the Ring, a world title match at Wrestlemania, the coveted Breakout Superstar of the Year Slammy, gotten to "retire" someone and hold the record for hats worn at WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies. What's left, fella?

Also, Kane and Randy Orton.

It's the backing vocals that crack me up more than anything these days. In past years, I never quite realized how much they sound like one of those chicken choruses that would back up Gonzo on the old Muppet Show.

I had more fun watching this show than I have in a long time. Especially the Rock Concert. Honestly, you could tell just how much fun Rock was having out there and it was completely infectious. Sure, the Queen karaoke bit was bad, but it didn't detract from the preceding 10 minutes of greatness. Genuinely haven't laughed and smiled so much at something on Raw in years. It was glorious.

The Cena thuganomics promo was exactly what it needed to be too. I have no problem with this Cena character. That's why he got so popular in the first place. It will be so disappointing if/when he goes back to his stale ass kiddie friendly character after this feud.

Another good match between Ziggler and Sheamus. I said it after Smackdown and I'll say it again, a World title feud between these two could be very enjoyable. Was amused by the "Kick his ARSS" sign in the crowd.

Michael Cole already forgot to call the Pterodactyl. This displeases me immensely. If Brodus turns up on Smackdown then I'm sure Booker will resolve this issue.

I guess Taker has always been pretty lousy to mediocre on the mic, but the crowds had been into his promos in the past. Now he's just dying under the apathy and WHAT chants. Sad to see, but I don't think it'll do him any harm. They might think twice about sending him out with a live mic again, though. The #thatswhatshesaid references in my head from this promo worried me. "I will officially end you!"

I don't think the Best in the World vs Best in the World storyline was setting the (best in the) world on fire, so it was good to see another layer added to the storyline, one which has convinced me that Punk is dropping the title to Jericho at Mania so that the feud can continue into May and June. I'll admit to having a somewhat juvenile and puerile sense of humour so the first thing that popped into my head was CM Drunk. I actually thought the crowd was chanting it, at one point. Then CM Drunk trended worldwide on Twitter and the reaction to THAT was hilarious. Disrespectful to Punk? It's not true in the first place, and if it were he clearly agreed to exploit it. I think the angle should get good heat - I don't want to be reminded TOO much of the Jerry Lawler/Jake Roberts feud from 1996 though.

I should note for the record that I enjoyed The Rock Concert immensely and Dwayne taking petty pot shots in lyric form is always a good time by me. This was the most relaxed he's been in front of the live crowd since he started reappearing to promote WrestleMania.

Undertaker, when he was the Lord of Darkness and especially when he was the American Bad Ass/Big Evil Red Devil was a fantastic promo. His rambling, redneck-based stories where he took us under the Learning Tree was the basis of my old OUR so-called SPORT website's best column, The Learning Tree. But both Rock and Undertaker show that 10 minute promos in front of live crowds is a muscle that must be continually worked out.

I forget which wrestler said this in a recent interview I read online, it may have been Jericho or someone like that, but the concept of the 10-15 minute live promo in front of the crowd is a relatively new phenomenon in this business, and it's really fucking hard to do. For decades, interviews were conducted backstage or with an interviewer holding the mike and it was limited to a few minutes. Plus many wrestlers had managers to do the talking. The ten minute live promo by wrestlers is an invention of the Attitude Era, and among the masters of the form were Stone Cold, The Rock, Hulk Hogan in the nWo, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Jericho, HBK, HHH, Vince McMahon, and, lest we forget when she was a heel in 2004 and 2005, Trish Stratus, who was the first woman ever not surnamed McMahon who was given a live mic, got to cut 10 minute promos in the ring, and knocked it out of the park each time, and got to carry whole angles based on her promo work. The modern masters for the current generation are John Cena and CM Punk.

Cut Undertaker a fucking break. He's cut exactly two promos in over a year and he's got to do it in his character least suited to talk and talk, the Deadman character. I bet Undertaker's promos will be back to form on April 21st.
