What exactly has Rock done that should make Cena turn all super serious when they're face-to-face? Rock's made lame jokes, made fun of his jorts, made fun of his shirt colors, all of which Cena has taken ownership of. Ooh, he threw his merchandise into the river. He called him a bitch, oh no! CATCHPHRASE! Cena's belief is that he's got Rock rattled, so of course he's going to stand there and smile in Rock's face. Cena's taking the match seriously, just not Rock seriously, because Dwayne-as-Rock hasn't given him any reason (yet) to take him seriously.

Besides, people have been clamoring for Cena to drop the kid-friendly stuff & adopt a more serious attitude, and now that he's doing so, you don't like it. Cena's up in Rock's face, basically telling him, "that all you got?" The smug smile is great (U MAD?). He's goading Rock.

Yes, because Cena's jokes were all upscale. So, what is the end game? Turn Rock, heel? they want to the fans to cheer Cena so bad, They are willing to take the only proven commodity they have and turn him heel, yet not Cena whose time as a face is over? It doesn't make sense. Also, what does Rock have to do to make Cena take this seriously? Get physical, ok? But we all know he will have that smug smile on his face after he looks up from eating a Rock Bottom. Unless, they really want to go all Rock/Hogan. They can have Rock hit him with a bus while Cena is in an ambulance.

WWE wants to do everything in their power to make Steph's fantasy of a 50/50 split happen when we know for the fact it won't. Cena gets booed out of almost every Big 4 event he is at. This will be no different. Sure, I like rapper Cena, too, but what we have here is the worst of both worlds. A smug guy who shoots on Rock all the while, the fans are not sure what the hell is going and will not be backing him after Mania or even during Mania when Rock goes for the People's elbow. We all know Cena is going to win at Mania for this silly notion of passing the torch. We don't need another Cena feud where he doesn't take it seriously and then runs around the ring like a jackass which we all know is going to happen. There is no long term win in bringing Rock down while elevating Cena for the 100th to utter failure.

I would swear on a stack of Bibles that Rock's promos last night could have been delivered by heel WWF wrestlers in the mid-'80s.

Rock has always been a tweener. He'll punch a crotch. He'll spit water on you. He'll grab a chair. Cena can do that if he's pushed too far, usually if he's faced with a supreme challenge. Rock will do it much quicker because he takes gumption personally.

I don't think Rock loses any fans at mania if he grabs a chair in Miami. He's Rock. If he's out to prove Cena is his bitch, he needn't bother with the rules.

Cena wants to prove he's the top performer. Rock wants to prove he's the top man.

The crowd were headed towards 50/50 last night, my crazy compadre. And regardless of how much boos he gets in Miami, the last two weeks alone have done a stellar job of rehabilitating Cena's face act. He's coming acoss as provocative, pissed off and motivated by the desire to win. To me, getting their year-in year-out number one guy back on track as a character is a lot more noble a goal than simply reminding everyone that yes, The Rock is awesome and no, he's not back fulltime.

Frankly your angry diatribes against everything they do with Cena are getting pretty tiring. What's the longterm win in putting a part-timer comprehensively over their established top guy?

It was more 60/40. If the short term guy is making noise about coming back more often and is the only one to pop a buyrate, then you go with him. Cena's time is pretty much over. Punk is getting all of the cheers without having too worry about split fans as does Orton. A lot of fans are going to buying Mania for Rock to destroy Cena when that doesn't happen, do you think they will be happy when Cena pulls his bullshit magically healed running around the ring shit at the end of Mania? No. Also, if Rock is coming back for SummerSlam, you have him win, so Cena can get the win back, because if you go with someone else, people will see the WWE has no desire to allow Rock to win and they won't pay for it. They will pay for a rematch if its good. And with Cena's less than stellar track record at Mania, I am not sold on that either.

Funniest thing last night (aside from that first Rock pretape - Flux Capacitor reference for the win) was seeing Colt of Personality trend on Twitter and the reactions of the kids who haven't heard of Cabana...

Rather enjoyed Santino's win. The battle of the GMs storyline has been truly entertaining so far. Just harmless fun which will also happen to give guys a Mania payday.

R-Truth asked the question that needed to be asked in his inset promo. Who ARE those guys talking to?

Zack Ryder just comes across as more of a chump each time he appears on TV. Poor Zack.

When Cena was taking shots at Rock's conquest brags and compared him to The Situation, I was hoping he had gone for Val Venis instead.

I haven't seen the show yet, but some thoughts from my seat at TD Garden, which were very good seats (twitpic.com) in the loge section near the entrance ramp. (Only drawback was being near the pyro and the 34 consecutive heart attacks when Kane's fire exploded.)

The Rock absolutely killed with his three History Lesson pretapes. I think I learned more Boston history from The Rock (who invented electricity) than I ever did at Boston Latin School. That was vintage Rock. We love him when he's funny, when he's completely full of himself, and when he's being an asshole. That was sensational, classic work.

BUT... the pop when The Rock finally came out to the ring was subdued. At that point, a weird thing began happening: Cena's obnoxious promo in his rapper voice was starting to win the crowd over. Mind you, prior to Cena's live appearance in the ring, the crowd response to him was 80/20 boos.

The natives were restless during his empty arena pre-tape promo, which I thought was rather excellent. Because Cena and to a lesser extent Rock, but mainly Cena, finally and effectively communicated what's at stake in this WrestleMania match. Cena spoke very clearly and plainly about what the match signifies to him and how devastating it would be to him if he lost.

So, having already done all the comedy we could have wanted in his vignettes, Rock came out to confront a Cena who was being kind of a funny asshole himself, which is what we want Cena to be (right?). Rock was being neither funny nor intimidating. Cena had won the crowd's favor when he admitted his outfit looks ridiculous. Comparing The Rock to The Situation was a masterstroke. He owned the crowd after that one, cut Rock off at the knees. And here's the thing: The mentally in the live crowd last night was of the "What have you done for me lately?" variety. Meaning the support and emotions of the crowd seemed to swing towards whomever was the last person to instantly please them. At that point, it was Cena.

It was a drunk guy in the row right in front of me wearing a green Kofi Kingston shirt who yelled, "I love The Rock as much as anyone, but c'mon! He was the Tooth Fairy!" And then he started yelling TOOTH FAIRY! TOOTH FAIRY! And to my shock, the crowd instantly adopted it. Everyone was surprised, and Cena instantly jumped on it and flipped the crowd in his favor.

What was missing from the live crowd was Ralph Wiggum saying: "It's John Cena! And he's winning us back!" Because Cena was totally over as a babyface by the time the show ended. That was by far the best Cena performance I've ever seen live.

Yes, Cena was being an asshole, but that's what we want! That's what we like. So Cena was actually more likeable last night than he had been in months. After the show ended, Cena hugged his wife and father John Cena Sr. at ringside, and then he talked out of character to the live crowd that his brother Sean had just gotten word yesterday that he had beaten cancer. Cena was legit teared up and overcome with emotion. He announced he was going to Kowloon (Chinese restaurant outside Boston that's a home base for WWE post-shows), ordering a big plate of kung pow chicken and was drinking Jack Daniels all night!

They did a dark match with Punk and Cena vs. Kane and Jericho that lasted under 5 minutes. It was hilarious when Cena hit the FU on Kane, and before the referee had even counted to 2, Cena's music hit. The sound guy must have been in a real rush to get out of there, maybe to beat traffic and get that free Chinese at Kowloon.

Speaking of Kowloon, we went there to eat after the show. The WWE people were herded off into a private room despite the dozens of people filling the restaurant not to eat but just to get autographs. Cena arrived just as we were leaving but we saw him come in. Funny part: In a restaurant where there must have been a hundred people dressed like John Cena, the person ironically not dressed as John Cena was John Cena.

Couple of other notes:

You have a tremendous, pay per view quality Kofi Kingston vs Dolph Ziggler match on Superstars to look forward to this week.

Santino's title win was a joy to see live and he was monstrously over in Boston, which seems to be a good luck town for him. It's funny that Santino is essentially getting the push Internet fans want for Zack Ryder. The difference of course is Santino is a Vince McMahon/WWE Creative comedy project that's now paying off in all new ways. Oh, and Santino tried to cut a promo but they shut the microphone and lights on him and cut to commercial, like he'd just won an Oscar or something.

You can practically hear and see Justin Roberts' soul escape his body during the Read the Fans' Signs segment while the show was on commercial break.

AJ is pretty much all lean torso and apple bottom ass with really short legs.

Sheamus was legit limping up the aisle in pain at the end of the tag match.

Long after Cena had left as the arena was emptying out, it was Punk who remained shaking hands with as many people as he could while "Cult of Personality" played.

All in all, it was an awesome RAW to be at live. The show was solid and highly entertaining. Except for Royal Rumble 2011, it was the first RAW I've been to in years where it didn't feel like WWE was trying to kill off the town.

The TD Garden was legit full. People were literally hanging from the rafters.

And of course, I could not exit TD Garden without a Points to Sign. (twitter.com) Next stop: Miami.

I was there live too and this match was absolutely the highlight of the night for me. Ziggler channels Mr. Perfect so well that my friend who doesn't follow WWE at all nowadays asked me if he was related to Hennig or something.

They're just polarising the two camps right now. If you love Cena you're being given more reasons to love him, but those who hate Cena are being given plenty of fuel for that particular fire. As long as everyone picks a side, they'll be happy enough.

-The R Truth interview was great. If we hadn't had Summer of Punk, 2011 would have been R Truth's year. So of course, he jobs to Kane.

-I wonder if drunk Kofi fan was a plant. The "Tooth Fairy" chant was just so perfect...a bit too perfect.

They could of had Rock go all Clubber Lang on Cena's wife.

THAT would have been the single greatest promo EVER if Rock pulled it off in a Clubber Lang voice too. What a wasted opportunity.

I see both sides of bringing Rock down to Cena's level and giving people reasons to be disappointed that he's not doing enough instead of ecstatic that he's back. But Rock's audience/the mobilized anti-Cena audience is going to stick with Rock no matter what, but Cena's giving his fans a side and a stance to get behind. He can't just like down in the ring and weep that Rock is so much better than him, which seems to be what some people want since CENA SUX. The poster dMr said it really nicely, Cena's behavior is making him that much more of a babyface to the people who like him and that much more of a heel to people who don't.

I would still have Rock win the first match in Miami and have Cena win the rematch in LA instead of the other way around. Like in losing the Punk match in Chicago, Cena doesn't lose anything in losing if the match is extremely memorable. Well except for the fact that he's already said he has to win this match or else he'll die, etc. I dunno, everyone in Toronto wanted Hogan to win too and he didn't. But because of how the crowd reacted, he basically did. So maybe Rock is confident that between charisma and match layout, he too can lose the match while still winning the night and not pissing off the crowd.
