TONIGHT: The Rock returns to Raw to send the build-up for his match with John Cena at Wrestlemania into high gear. Plus, John Laurniaitis on Twitter I believe has hinted at a Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk rematch. And other stuff.

-WWE Open.

-A video package aired, splicing John Cena’s anti-Rock comments from last week in with Cena match footage and WM graphics.

-Raw Open.

-Fireworks shot off as the Raw theme played in the background. Michael Cole introduced the show from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. Jerry Lawler plugged The Rock’s return, saying we’ll get a response to what Cena said last week.

-CM Punk came out for his match with Daniel Bryan. Cole and Lawler were shown on-camera during Punk’s entrance. They showed clips of Punk vs. Bryan on Super Smackdown Tuesday night. Instead of Bryan coming out, though, Chris Jericho walked to the ring with a mic. Jericho got to the ring and asked Punk if he was expecting someone else. “CM Punk” chants. Jericho said what he has to say is more important than Punk’s match with Bryan. Jericho said Punk is one of his favorite performers but isn’t as good as him, isn’t the best in the world at what he does. Punk has a mic, too. Jericho said he never had to call himself the best in the world, the fans would say it for him. He never had to make a t-shirt out of it, the fans would write it on signs. Jericho said he’s a part of a dying breed of performers who toured the world to make a name for themselves before coming to WWE, not caring about the politics in the back and not being a favorite of management. Is this a different breed than Triple H’s dying breed?

Jericho said, like him, Punk is a maverick, a rebel. Jericho said it’s because Punk just wants to be him. Punk interrupted, saying the people are sick of hearing about Jericho. They know how good he is, as does Punk. Punk said he’s never plagiarized anything in his life – everything he has, he’s fought for and earned. Punk said Bret “Hitman” Hart also claimed to be the best, before Jericho. Punk asked if Jericho invented Bret being Canadian, or invented Canada itself. Jericho told the fans to laugh along with Punk, who never takes things too seriously. He warned Punk to take him seriously. Jericho said he’s proving every night that indeed he’s the best in the world at what he does. He said he’s beaten Hall-of-Famers, won titles, and created Wrestlemania moments. Punk asked to who Jericho is trying to prove that he’s the best – Punk, the fans, or himself? He said Jericho’s confidence has been replaced with jealousy. He said Jericho sees himself in Punk, only Punk has surpassed him. He talked about Jericho beating Steve Austin and The Rock in the same night, but he was never “the man” like Punk is “the man.” Punk said Jericho has a Napolean complex. Punk said he’s the best wrestler in the world, while Jericho said he’s the best in the world at what he does. Punk taunted Jericho for all of his outside work, saying he’s swimming with sharks while Jericho is dancing with stars. A similar refrain to the Rock-Cena feud.

Jericho said he’s a bigger star than Punk and while he was off TV, all he could think about was Punk ripping him off. Poor John Cone having to just stand in the corner all this time! Jericho said the 1/2/12 videos, the light-up jacket and everything else was just a smoke-screen for Jericho to return to beat Punk for the World (WWE) Title at Wrestlemania to prove he’s the best in the world at what he does. Punk said all Jericho had to do was ask for the match. He said everyone points at the WM sign, but he’ll point at the title. He doesn’t need Chris Brown and Jericho doesn’t need Mickey Rourke to prove they’re the best. Punk said WM won’t be the end of the world…just the end of Jericho’s. Daniel Bryan then walked out, flanked by AJ and followed closely behind by Johnny Ace and David Otunga. Things got out of hand quickly with Bryan trying to attack Punk from behind when Punk was distracted by Ace. Punk sent Bryan to ringside before the match could begin.

[Commercial Break]

(1) CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan – Champion vs. Champion Match
Match was joined in progress out of the break. Johnny Ace was on commentary, along with Teddy Long (who was seconded by Santino Marella). Punk worked the arm in the ring. Ace and Long traded barbs on commentary, while Cole stuck up for Ace and Lawler for Long. Punk back-dropped Bryan to the outside. Bryan sat up holding his right knee, then called AJ over. Punk was going to dive over the top onto Bryan until he saw AJ near Bryan. Punk came out to the apron where Bryan tripped him, then tossed him into the steel steps. They went to break again, 3:16 into the match.

[Commercial Break]

Back at 6:50. Bryan had an abdominal stretch locked on Punk. Running dropkick in the corner by Bryan missed, with Punk just dodging the move. Punk began his comeback at 7:45, leveling Bryan with a swinging neck-breaker. Running knee in the corner found the mark, but bulldog was dodged. Bryan missed a kick and Punk slammed him. To the top he went, and connected on an elbowdrop off the top. Punk signaled for the GTS, but Otunga got ont eh apron. Punk knocked him off and got ut of a LeBell Lock. Double cross-body and Otunga was back on the apron. Santino Cobra’d Otunga down, so Ace pulled Marella (lightly) off the apron with Marella taking a big bump. Ace and Long began to argue as Santino and Otunga joined in. At this point, Bryan took his title and headed to the back. Sheamus ran in and put Bryan back in the ring. GTS by Punk, who went for the cover. The ref ran in (he had been trying to break up the arguing outside the ring) to count, but Ace waved it off and demanded the bell be called.

Winner: Bryan, via DQ, 10:15 shown. I’m presuming this is the reason Ace threw out the match, but no decision was announced. Again, they used a champion vs. champion match as a back-drop for a GM battle that I don’t think anyone is really clamoring for.

After the match, Punk and Ace argued. Long got in the ring and shoved Ace on his ass. Santino and Otunga tried to cool things down after both men took off their jackets. The ref tried to get between them too. As Punk stood on the apron watching the mess in the ring, Jericho attacked him from behind and bodyslammed Punk onto the steel. Jericho locked in the Walls of Jericho until two more referees came out to break it up. So much going on there at the end, difficult to process it all.

-Rock will speak live tonight.

[Commercial Break]

-The Portland skyline was shown.

-They replayed Jericho’s attack on Punk.

-Josh Mathews was standing outside the trainer’s room, where Punk was just taken. Mathews said Punk was more angry than injured.

-The announcers discussed what just happened. This helps the previous segment sink in a little. Cole then turned to previewing Undertaker vs. Triple H in Hell in a Cell at ‘Mania. He sent it to a video package of Hunter vs. Taker at WM last year, with guys like CM Punk, The Miz, Edge, Pat Patterson, Steve Austin and others commenting on the match. A nice reminder that Taker actually won the match last year, since that hasn’t been played up much thus far.

-Cole directed fans to WWE.com for an exclusive and heated interview with Shawn Michaels in response to Triple H saying he’s better than HBK.

-John Cena vs. The Miz is still to come on Raw tonight.

[Commercial Break]

(2) Nikki Bella vs. Kelly Kelly
Both women were already in the ring. Cole read Kelly’s negative Tweet about Eve from earlier today. Cole plugged Trish Stratus doing a live chat on WWE.com right now. Neck snap by Nikki, then a two-count. Nikki fell victim to a drop toe-hold into the second turnbuckle, then Kelly took her down with a headscissors. Face-plant and the Bellas tried to switch, but couldn’t do so as Kelly kicked her off the apron. Roll-up by Nikki, turned into a roll-up and a bridge by Kelly for the win.

Winner: Kelly, at 1:29. The bridging pin was neat.

-Tonight, Sheamus & Big Show team up to take on Mark Henry & Cody Rhodes.

-Rock will be LIVE on Raw tonight.

-But next, John Cena is in action against The Miz.

[Commercial Break]

-A video package aired for the Rock’s DVD.

(3) John Cena vs. The Miz
Before the match, Miz did some mic work on the stage talking about all he does for WWE, yet his name hasn’t been called for Wrestlemania. Miz interacted with the fans, telling them to shut up and doing the “really?” bit. He came to the ring and said he’d prove he deserves to be on ‘Mania by beating Cena. Match began with Cena getting the better of Miz early on. Knee-lift by Cena, then an elbow knock-down. Miz fought back and had the look of a desperate man trying to get a win at all costs. He showed his aggressive side, working over Cena in the ropes. Back body-drop by Cena. Cena ran Miz over with a clothesline. Cole acknowledged that Miz has not been “awesome” lately. DDT planted Cena, who kicked out at two. Corner clothesline by Miz. Miz missed a double axe-handle and Cena began his comeback. Five-Knuckle Shuffle, then the Attitude Adjustment and STF for the win.

Winner: Cena, via submission, at about 4:00. Hard-hitting, aggressive performance from both men.

-As Cena celebrated on the turnbuckle, Rock was shown jumping in place and watching the monitor backstage. Rock looked at the camera, did the “you can’t see me” wave, and pulled the imaginary shade down on the camera, which followed with the top-to-bottom black screen in a nice touch. Cena just laughed in response as his theme played. The camera followed him as he went up the stage and saluted the crowd.

[Commercial Break]

(4) R-Truth & Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler & Jack Swagger vs. Primo & Epico – Triple Threat Tag Team Title Match
Wouldn’t mind seeing this match at ‘Mania if no MITB. One man from each team allowed in the ring at a time. Ziggler allowed Kofi and Primo to battle first, with Ziggler going to the outside. Kingston got to shine early on, but Primo broke up an R-Truth pinned. First team to a pin becomes tag champs. Jumping side kick by Truth on Miz. Swagger came in and ran right over Truth. Kingston and Swagger spilled to the outside, leaving no one in the ring. They went to break at 1:35.

[Commercial Break]

Back at 4:38. Swagger easily broke up a pin attempt by Truth. Primo and Swagger double-teamed Truth and Swagger once again broke up the pin. He and Primo argued, then Swagger tagged Ziggler. High dropkick by Ziggler and Primo tried to make the pin. This time, Primo and Ziggler argued. DDT (on Primo) and Downward Spiral (on Ziggler) by Truth. Kofi got the hot-tag and cross-bodies Swagger for two. Epico broke it up, but was slammed on top of Swagger. Boom Drop on Epico. Swagger hooked Epico in the ankle-lock. Kofi gave Swagger the Trouble in Paradise, but Primo took out Kofi, allowing Epico to get the pinfall.

Winners: Primo and Epico, at 8:11. Pleasantly surprised at the result and the length the match was given.

Kane’s pyro went off immediately after the match. He laid out Primo at ringside, then gave Ziggler and Epico a double chokeslam in the ring. Truth tried to fight Kane, but he walked into a chokeslam. Kane cued up his pyro and music to end the segment.

-Otunga and Ace discussed the Oscars. Long walked in and Ace barked at him to get out. Long said there’s a rumor that Ace won’t be running Raw next week (big pop for that). Ace said he’s heard that Long will have to buy a ticket to Smackdown next week because he’s been fired. Long called Ace a horse’s ass (complete with “horse’s ass”) chant as Ace yelled for him to get out. That was the most Ace has emoted since his time on screen.

-Sheamus and Big Show vs. Henry and Rhodes is still to come…

-…as is The Rock.

[Commercial Break]

-Lawler thanked Flo Rida for “Good Feeling,” one of the theme songs to Wrestlemania.

-The outside of the Rose Garden was shown as Cole talked about the “uncomfortable situation” with Eve that led off Raw last week. They showed clips of Eve’s heel turn.

-Eve sauntered to the ring. Lawler called it a “walk of shame” for her. Eve waited…and waited…and finally a “hoski” chant picked up. Eve told the people to judge her if they want, but she’s a woman living in a man’s world. She said there isn’t a man in the world who wouldn’t want to be used by a woman like her. I’ll sign up for that. She said it’s not her fault that men are so easily seduced by her. She said men crumble at her feet, like puppies begging for affection. She said the men need to blame themselves for their weaknesses. She blew a kiss and walked out of the ring. I guess that redeems some of the negativity surrounding what happened to her character last week.

-The announcers talked about Eve, then they went backstage to Kelly Kelly confronting Eve about her being a totally different person and ignoring her friends. Eve laughed and then walked away. A giant woman…oh, that’s Alicia Fox, showed up next to Kelly, arms folded. She looks gigantic next to Kelly.

-Show and Sheamus were shown talking backstage.

-Now, the world premiere of the trailer for “Bending the Rules,” starring Edge. Hey, it’s Jessica Walter! And Lt. Bookman from Seinfeld! And Jamie Kennedy! Someone must’ve “X’d” him leading to being in this film.

[Commercial Break]

-Cole and Lawler spoke about the Long-Ace tension, and Cole said he heard that Long won’t be running Smackdown next week, and Lawler heard that Ace won’t be running Raw next week, either.

(5) Big Show & Sheamus vs. Mark Henry & Cody Rhodes
During Show’s entrance, they showed clips of Show’s performance in the Battle Royal last week. Rhodes cut a promo plugging Floyd Mayweather’s next fight, then talked about how little he weighed and how embarrassing it must’ve been for Big Show to lose. We got another rendition of Show’s ‘Mania moment, starting with Mayweather bloodying Show at No Way Out. Rhodes started the match and immediately tagged out. Show clobbered Henry before he could even get into the ring. Spear by Show, then he went after Rhodes. Rhodes backed up the ramp as Show yelled at him. Henry got to his feet by Sheamus made the tag and Brogue kicked Henry for the win.

Winners: Show and Sheamus, at :59. Hate what they’re doing to Henry lately, but Show and Rhodes’ deal take precedence because they (and Sheamus) actually have something brewing for ‘Mania.

-Cole said WWE.com will have a huge announcement from WWE’s Board of Directors at 10am.

-More clips of Cena’s promo against the Rock last week.

-The Rock is next.

[Commercial Break]

-Shawn Michaels returns to Raw next week!

-The Rock was introduced to the live crowd. He wore jeans and a cutoff BootsToAsses tee, for those interested. His first words were spoken at 10:59 after showing off his goosebumps (legit!) and milking the crowd reaction. “This feels so damn good,” he said. “Boots To Asses” chant. Rock referenced the guys in the back, saying he was born and created in WWE. He said if it weren’t for WWE and all the fans, The Rock would never exist. He said he meant that he was never going away when he said it, but it didn’t mean he was going to be on every Raw and every Smackdown. He said no one expected that, but he referenced the person in the back who took that literally. The crowd picked up on who he was talking about with a light “fruity pebbles” chant. Rock said he loves that chant and said unlike that other guy, he respects the audience’s intelligence. Rock said the fans know that he is standing in the ring for no other reason than he loves WWE. He said he’ll always be a part of WWE and WWE will always be a part of him.

He finally spoke the name “John Cena” and it was greeted by boos. Rock said for years he used to think that Cena was a phony, that the guy who graduated from private school could be the doctor of thuganomics. He said Cena isn’t a phony, but he is the guy who ran Rock down even though he wasn’t in the building. Rock said Cena made a big deal about going through people to talk to Rock, but Cena has Rock’s cell number. Rock said he doesn’t want to talk to Cena anywhere, he’d much rather slap his face with a piece of kung pow chicken. Kramer: “Kung Pow!” Rock said Cena isn’t a phony or even a bad guy, but a kung pow bitch. “Kung pow bitch” chant.

Rock said last week, Cena said something that resonated with him. Cena said come April 1st, he was going to fight for all the people in the back who love to be a pro wrestler. Rock said he grew up in the business of pro wrestling and there was no one who was never going to fight for him. Rock said no one fought for him when he was scratching and clawing his way up the ladder. He said when he was a struggling babyface, no one fought for him. No one fought for Austin, Triple H, Foley, Savage or Piper; they fought for themselves. So while Cena fights for the guys in the back, he fights for the fans. “Rocky” chants. Rock said he fights for the people who are sick and tired of a kung pow bitch being shoved down their throat every single night. Another “kung pow bitch” chant.

Rock said that Kung Pow Bitch was trending worldwide. I didn’t see it, but it may have happened earlier. Rock said the fans aren’t tired of being entertained, which is where he comes in. He said he lives to entertain in the middle of the ring or on the movie screen. Rock said Cena gets his face on a box of cereal, leading to another “fruity pebbles” chant. Rock talked about getting ladyparts to trend worldwide, and of course, the crowd then chanted “ladyparts.” Rock said half the crowd was chanting Rock, other half was chanting lady parts and asked them which they wanted to chant. Rock said it was still split, so on the count of three, chant “lady parts.” They did so. Then he counted up to three for them to chant “Rocky.” Rock asked Cena what the most innovative thing Cena has done all year, then answered the question by saying he changed his jean shorts to camo shorts. He said they’re working, because they kind find Cena’s balls. Rock took a swig of water and continued.

Rock said “Cena’s missing balls” is trending worldwide. “Missing balls” chant by the fans, which was interrupted by Cena’s music at 11:14 EST. Cena said this is fun that he did not want to miss. Cena said Kung Pow Chicken is always there, so it’s an apt comparison. Cena said he isn’t there to hang off Rock’s strudel or whatever he’s calling his penis these days. Cena said he’s the guy that runs Rock down when he’s not there…and when he’s there. Cena said he was a fan of the Rock until he got to meet Dwayne Johnson, who’s a self-centered, egotistical son of a bitch that wouldn’t give a rat’s ass if WWE closed it’s doors tomorrow. Cena made fun of Rock having notes for his promo on his wrist, saying he doesn’t need that, nor does he need Hustle and Loyalty to trend worldwide. They got in each other’s faces as the camera caught the Wrestlemania sign too. Cena said at ‘Mania, Rock might be looking at a guy who doesn’t have balls, but he’ll beat Rock’s ass. He left the ring and told Rock to continue trending. “Rocky” chant from the crowd as Cena went to the back.

Rock said that’s like Cena to run his mouth and leave before he could slap the lips off his face. Rock said Cena just confused the fans by saying he likes the Rock but hates Dwayne Johnson. Rock said those two people are the same men in here, and out there. Rock said the bottom line is that Team Bring It is going to kick Cena’s ass all over Wrestlemania. He ended with his catchphrase and paced in the ring like a caged animal. Lawler spoke up, saying he has goosebumps right now. Rock posed on the turnbuckle with the ‘Mania sign in the distance as they went off the air.

Cena/Rock, Punk/Jericho...take ALL my money! Take it all! Top-notch promos from all parties involved! It's going to be hard for everyone to maintain that kind of momentum for another month before the big night.

Re: the GM situation. The qualifier seems to be that they kept saying "next week". So I'd imagine that Long gets Raw next week while Laurinaitis gets SmackDown. That should be...something.

The top three Wrestlemania matches (Cena/Rock, Punk/Jericho, HHH/Undertaker) have been sold so well that they could throw feces on the undercard and it'd still be a must-buy. Which is funny, because given some of the matches that they're teasing (Kelly/Eve, in particular), that just might be what we wind up with.

I'll always be a huge Rock fan and maybe I just got worked but to me it looked like he was legit pissed at the "promo notes on wrist" comment. He just seemed off after that, kinda fumbling over the rest of the promo.

I thought the same thing, that Cena legit flustered him out there. You def could here some non-Rock voice slipping in as he started talking again. And you know what? If so, good for him. Fun as Rock's promo was, and yes he did address what needed to be addressed, so much of that time was spent setting up lame catchphrases so they could trend on Twitter. Dude can get away with it for sure, and the crowd ate it up (if anyone else on the roster can get that kind of reaction by all means feel free to criticize him for coming back for 'mania... that line starts NOWHERE), but in terms of substance? Cena nailed him right back to the wall and it was cool to see Mr. Super Cool lose it for a second.

Cena's been smoking Rock in terms of substance since this whole thing started a year ago. Tonight was just the latest example. The irrational Cena hatred has kept many blind to it, but the truth almost always shines through in the end.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

A half hour of Punk & Jericho to kick off the show? #BestFeudInTheWorld Loved it. Jericho mentioning a "literally dying breed" was a reference to Eddie and YouKnowWho, right?

I want to know more of Otunga's opinions on the Oscars, being engaged to an Oscar-winner and all...

Speaking of, I think Edge can probably pull off a Wacky '80s Cop Movie, but those terrible graphics! Shades of Knucklehead! WWE has such a cutting edge graphics/video department that do an amazing job on RAW every week. Can't they take a few hours to design a good movie logo?

Nice tag match, but it made me think of last week's main event...has there been ANY mention of Wade getting hurt?

Man, that was a lot of rigamaroo from Dwayne to end the show... I think Cena won that verbal battle, especially calling him out on writing his notes on his wrist. (Which my girlfriend totally caught when we noticed there was something on his wrist and it wasn't More Tattoos.)

Rock's promo was HORRIBLE, and was only saved when Cena came out & proceeded to bury Rock six feet under, all with a smile on his face. Sooooo awesome.

Rock also appeared to be mouthing "motherfucker" and "you bitch" as Raw was going off the air.

While I liked it in the sense that it will drag out the pissed off serious Rock that I always loved it was too similar to the "you aren't really rich we all know those are rental cars" comment he made to Del Rio. Doesn't seem good for business to openly talk about those things.

I really haven't seen a whole lot of substance on either guy's part. Cena's "I'm here every weeeeeeek" nonsense is pathetic. The fact that he repeated it as much as he did just watered down an already pathetic whine.

Rock hasn't said anything that's got any more substance behind it either, but them being equal on that front makes this a battle of 'Who Can Be More Entertaining', and Rock's been smoking Cena at every turn so far.

Kane's appearance destroyed the momentum of a very good win by Primo and Epico. Stupid jackass who wrote that into the script.

Rock's promo was way too long but he's got the fans in his hand. What can you say?????

Remember when Mark Henry was the shit for like 6 months and the Smackdown ratings were the best in years because of him? Now he's being jobbed out all because he had the gall to get hurt. What bullcrap. Why not someone else instead of Henry in that spot? The Rock's promo when he he returned a year or so was incredible and it's all gone downhill since then. He was okay on the mic tonight, but I agree with others that said Cena owned him. Cena has upped his game the last few weeks. If only he cut promos like that every week instead of the bad jokes and all the poopy talk he'd be a lot less hated. Jericho and Punk were great tonight. I really don't like seeing a attitude era relic like Kane taking out a bunch of young guys, especially Ziggler. The Edge movie would bomb even in the 80's which had plenty of hokey movies just like the one he's starring in. Eve has met her match in the bad actress category in Kelly Kelly.

Surely this Raw deserved more than to be ignored in favour of watching guys spray off a torched racetrack.

Cena's rebuttal was fantastic, and Rock's legitimately pissed-off behaviour attitude afterwards was perfect. That was the perfect step towards transitioning from this feud from Twitter trending topics to legit heat. The only logical next step is for Rock to get 'real' on Cena as well. We had the first hint of it this week when Rock mentioned Cena's private-school upbringing.

None of that matters. Rock could come out and read the phonebook and people are going to be into him because he's a 'star'. The whole 'scripted promos' things by Cena just seems silly. It's like criticizing a Chris Rock stand up because he practices. No matter how much Cena 'owns' him on the mike, he's still going to be booed and everyone is going to love The Rock. The fact that they are going this route is just weird. I'm not saying they have to do a mutual admiration society, but I just wish they would forget this worked shoot crap.

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

So you mostly watched the drivers metaphorically eating Snickers while the track was fixed by the damage caused by a jet engine fireball? #notgoinganywhereforawhile

Alicia Fox isn't a giant woman, but her suddenly popping up next to Kelly Kelly with the clown hair just shocked and distorted people's perceptions.

Your two world champions are the curtain jerkers for the show while the throw away match with The Big Sloppy is the main?! Who did Henry piss off anyway?

This Wrestlemania really will be about the end of an era. Jericho who is one of the few left on The W's roster that came up from the territorial wrestling days versus indie wrestling's pride and joy CM Punk. Leaders of the Attitude Era in a HIAC match, and the most popular face of the Attitude Era vs. the face of the PG era Rock and Cena. If they could have somehow worked Trish vs. Beth Pheonix into WM this would be like Street Fighter X Tekken: Pro-wrestling addition.

Anyone else notice that when Primo and Epico come out Cole ALWAYS mentions how much having Rosa in their corner has helped them? Yet she does nothing but dance. How does that help them win matches? This isn't Sherri Martel we're talking about here. In fact I don't believe this team is getting any fan reaction at all.

Too much pandering for chants Rocky. That was seriously pissing me off.

Rock: Here's another goofy phrase you sheep"
-signal for reaction-
Annoying Audience: Kung! Pow! Bitch!" clap clap clapclapclap

I actually despised the crowd more tonight than either Rock or Cena. Nice tattoo BTW Rock.

Rock hasn't said anything that's got any more substance behind it either, but them being equal on that front makes this a battle of 'Who Can Be More Entertaining', and Rock's been smoking Cena at every turn so far.

I concur. In terms of substance, both are keeping their beef very generalized, especially Dwayne, who spends 4/5ths of his promo time explaining the basics of his character and making the fans chant his catchphrases. Cena's morphing into a defensive arrogant prick, which is the most entertaining he's been, but it's probably confusing his very young audience. Let's face it, Cena comes off like a jerk. The Rock is supposed to be a jerk, but a funny jerk. Cena's not funny unless he raps.

They don't need to really delve into substance to sell the match, which is pre-sold just based on their respective iconography and status. However, there's no talk about their 'eras' or 'generations' or which is better, stuff like that. There's been no perspective on what is at stake in the grand sense, what a victory by each party represents. There has been a lot of talk about lady parts and who needs whose promo written for them. Next time Dwayne stops by, they should probably start talking about why they are fighting each other and what winning The Biggest Match of All Time means to them and what it would mean to the WWE Universe.

Or we could talk some more about #CenasMissingBalls. Whichever.

Eve's promo was WICKED GOOD. Seriously, I loved it. And I loved how she waited for the #hoeski chant to start up, milked it, then started her promo. The promo itself was delivered well, and the direction she's taking hasn't been done in a bit.

Loved the tag match, and lets be honest; Kane had to show up. They needed to reestablish kane as a threat for Mania, because he's going to be in match, probably against Ryder in what will hopefully will show what the endgame was all along; Glenn Jacobs Doing the Right Thing Like He Always Does (in this case; being the bridge for Cena/Rock and putting over a young talent). Or they could go Kane/Eve vs Ryder/Kelly.

Corporation H/Undertaker montage was yet another reason why the WWE has some of the best production staff in the world.

Jericho vs Punk doesn't need to be talked about, it speaks for itself. And I thought the same thing as Spiraling Shape; "literally dying", to me, was a reference to Eddie, possibly Benoit, and several others.

Eve Torres actually had the best and most accurate promo of the night.

Jericho/Punk was fine, but I'm not totally buying into Jericho's character. I get he thinks Punk stole his shtick, but he is pretty much the same Jericho he's been for awhile making all those great wordless "Andy Kaufman like" appearances seem pretty pointless now. The consensus at the time was wait and see where they led, but looking back on them now they might have been cute but weren't really productive and have made Jericho kind of confusing. Or maybe they should be arguing over more than just the use of 'Best in the World'.

The Rock does make the show fun in a different way by getting the crowd jacked up and he has amazing crowd control. I didn't think Cena's retort was anything special. It was strange to see him throw Rock off his game at the end. I thought it was more the Dwayne Johnson jab than the handwriting which The Rock had to have known was obvious.

I'm not even going to bother commenting on the wrestling

Well, Brad Maddox was fired as Raw GM a few weeks ago. I don't think Smackdown's had an official GM for a while. Basically the GM position has been subsumed under the Authority.
