I'm surprised the news hasn't made it's way here yet. There was a trailer leaked on Youtube for a new game called WWE Wrestlefest, and yes, it is a remake of the arcade game. Unfortunately once THQ got wind they had it taken down right away. From what I've been able to gather, there will be over 30 wrestlers, both from the original game and current superstars. Also, Saturday Night's Main Event mode has been renamed Road to Wrestlemania. Hopefully other than that, they keep it as close to the original as possible, as a remake of Wrestlefest has been something I and a ton of other fans have been dreaming about for years. This will be a first day PSN download for me.

First day for me too. I love Wrestlefest and always have. I recently rebuilt an old arcade system and have probably played the game every other day since then. Something about the thing is still fun to this day.

Everything I've read indicates that this is not happening at all and that the WWE only trademarked the 'Wrestlefest' name recently to protect their IP from further misuse. I remember the Wrestlefest Revival project getting shut down last year after WWE's lawyers hit them with a cease and desist. I have a feeling this latest Wrestlefest project is also an unlicensed rogue attempt at reviving the game.

Funny thing, any tidbit I've seen about this suggests it was going to be iPhone only. There's been a great deal of unlicensed games based on copyrighted material released for mobile phones over the past few years -- a lot of it coming out of lone programmers or very small development teams from Asian countries. Recently there was a Ninja Turtles game available to purchase on the Apple store website for weeks before anyone actually noticed it wasn't kosher and pulled it.

I wish I caught that video before it was deleted. I will also concur on the WF love - it was a fantastic game for its time.

Such a great arcade game. Still holds up. I remeber being blown away as a kid because it was such a quantum leap ahead of Superstars.

Seems like a perfect property for PSN or Xbox Arcade. Same gameplay with more wrestlers, better graphics and online play and I'd shell out $20 easy.

Looks like something (facebook.com) related to Wrestlefest is coming on February 21st.

And not-so-coincidentally enough, there's a new article (wwe.com) about the old game up now at WWE.com.

And here's what we've all been waiting for since the early 90's!!!!!

...Wow. I cannot begin to describe how atrocious that looks. I'll just go back to the original on my MAME emulator, thanks.

Edit: The WWE.com article is incorrect. It's Smash and Crush in the game, not Ax and Smash. Seriously, do your research homework, guys.

The new "WWE Wrestlefest" has smoother graphics and an updated roster of wrestlers (a rostler, if you will) including John Cena and Randy Orton, alongside old-school wrestlers like the late "Macho Man" Randy Savage. It's also been modernized with "an extensive downloadable content program."

The app is available in a free "Lite" version and a $2.99 "Premium" version for iPhone, and both "Lite" and paid for iPad.

THQ also plans to release this new WrestleFest on XBLA, PSN, Android, and PC, sometime in 2012. So we hope the new version is good.
As awful as that video looks, I'm glad that:
1)- I'll ultimately be able to try it on XBLA, where at least you have proper physical controls
2)- You can try the iOS version for free so you don't have to pay cash moneys to have your beloved memories peed upon
3)- I actually like the idea of perpetual DLC so that eventually you can have a million guys in here. Too bad the game itself looks like a hot turd.

I downloaded it. I love it. It IS Wrestlefest. Obviously the buttons would be better on a real controller instead of a touch screen, but other than that I'm really enjoying it. The only think I miss is Sgt. Slaughter with his atomic noogie.

The Rock was robbed! How did that guy lose that match? That was terrible.

I also think the three count was kinda slow.

Forget it Josh... it's Cerebustown.

It looks nice, but lets hope that the controls and story are good and also the caw is too.
