Princess Bride (I've tried to watch it ten times and just can't see anything worth sticking past the mid way point for)
Any Oliver Stone movie not named Platoon.
Yeah, Minus Scarface I have to take giant issues with the rest of your list minus Heaven and Earth and Wrong Turn. I am going to with Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.
Twitter: @realjoecarfley its a bit more toned down there. A bit.
Avatar: I really don't get, I've seen it and I hated this movie I liked it better when it was Pocahontas. Just because something looks pretty doesn't make it a good movie.
Dont say its not worth it, when you can sleep with no fear, that kind of time is worth any thing.- FFX
Scarface is a good movie that everyone overrates to a GREAT movie.
Avatar is the same thing. It really is Dancing with Smurfs but it's enjoyable enough of a show. Saw it in 2D first due to the time/theatre I was at, IMAX 3D didn't really impress me.
For me it's:
Saturday Night Fever, I found that one to kinda boring. Caddyshack, think I laughed twice in the whole movie. I find it a stretch to call it a comedy, let alone a classic.
Also, District 9. I got sick of them bludgeoning me over the head with the subtext (it's just like apartheid, GETTIT??!) inside of five minutes.
Funny, I saw the apartheid plot, but didn't think it bothered the movie. I just know I loved the main character's idiocy at first and how it got more serious and tragic towards the end as they tried to hunt him down. Oh and then there's a big fight. Awesome
I agree on Avatar, but then again..is it really considered a movie everyone loves? Nobody I know watches it for (or even cares for) the story. The special affects are well done, there's no denying that.
With the risk of turning this into a Star Wars thread yet again. I don't get the love for the original trilogy. They're worshipped, but when I see them, all I can notice is awkward acting (for the largest part), crappy editing (jumping from one 5 second scene to another to another 5 second scene) and so much more. I enjoy them for what they are, popcorn flicks, but I don't feel the love.

I would agree - with the exception of Stanger Than Fiction and Night at the Roxbury.
I don't get the love for Anchorman, Gangs of New York, The Big Lebowski, anything with Ben Stiller not named Tropic Thunder, Fight Club, or Blade Runner...tried to enjoy them, and just can't.

I just wish it had been a billion times more subtle. I had the same problem with the last season of The Wire which felt the need to remind me every 3.6 seconds that there were parallels to be drawn between the lives of the characters irrespective of their background and station in life.
Apart from that I thought District 9 was predictable, plodding fare, although I concede Sharlto Copley was excellent.

I suspect we share similar tastes in funny. Or at least similar tastes in what is NOT funny. Hate Ben Stiller, loved Tropic Thunder.
Avatar Office Space A League Of Their Own Any movie with Meryl Streep in it (But "Iron Lady" actually looks promising) Godfather II Caddyshack Slapshot Bull Durham Edward Scissorhands Almost every movie that has ever won an Oscar for Best Picture.
"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." - Winston Churchill
Please don't hurt me, but with an exception or two, I just don't get the love for Will Ferrell movies. They have a funny moment or two but mostly just blah with the humor telegraphed from ten miles away. I actually thought he was funnier on SNL.
Donnie F'n Darko - A convoluted mess if you take the theatrical cut and not the extras from the DVD.
Agree with District 9. Loved the first half, but the second half has cute baby alien, and crazy Iron Man battle (cool, but out of place). Felt really disjointed IMO.
It has always been laughable to me that Scarface is considered a piece of fine filmmaking. It is a fun B-Movie, but cripes the casting is pretty damn racist. And this was the beginning of scene chewing Pacino.

These are perfectly reasonable comments. The sort of well reasoned comments that you would expect to find on any credible Internet message board frequented by insightful, intelligent and thoughtful people.
But here on The W I like to think that we are a little smarter than the average pundit. That we are able to detect correlations where others see only noise. That we experience clarity where others only feel chaos.
So whilst Scarface cinematically is merely an OK movie held up as defining by the mentally feeble; I put it to you that in the context of The W, Scarface is actually a GREAT movie.
For without it, we wouldn't have had Stone Cold Steve Austin, or the Attitude Era, or potentially even The W itself!
These are interesting posts, because when I first saw the thread title, I mainly thought about movies that the critics liked, moreso than movies that made box office bank. I'm fine either way, but I will go more with media darlings.
1. Election- I watched it a few times to try and see what critics and some friends liked about it. Reese Witherspoon is good, but the characters are still mostly one note cliches and the film just doesn't do it for me.
2. Fight Club- Didn't buy the main conceit of the movie, so the film didn't work. The ending was also quite a letdown.
3. Pulp Fiction- I know, I know. This is one movie I may need to see again, because the first time I saw it I was confused and mostly bored (and the Bruce Willis subplot was dumb).
Oh, and Will Ferrell movies rule. All of them...okay, maybe not Night at the Roxbury.
"Put on your helmets, we'll be reaching speeds of 3!" "It was nice of you to give that dead woman another chance." "All right, look alive everybody...oh sorry Susan."- MST3K: Space Mutiny Click Here (facebook.com)
I can't believe I forgot to mention this after folks brought up Scarface, but, Heat. Overlong, unengaging and (not for the first time in his career) Pacino talking earnestly and loudly was mistaken for a great acting performance.
Condense it down to 90 minutes and you'd have a decent action film. As it stands - pants.

God yes. Maybe I just watched it after too many years and not enough beers because everyone seems convinced it was super cool/clever, but I thought it was several shades of shitty.

Wow. Princess Bride is one of my all time favorite movies and one of the most quotable. I have nothing negative to say about it. It is near perfection.
Decent sci-fi flick despite the lack of explicit R-rated gore. Joel Kinnaman is a better Robocop than Murphy. The remake does a fine job getting across Murphy's struggle having the man overcome the machine.
