Yeah, I'm in.

I have a feeling this will end up in the Movies You Don't Get The Hate For thread a year from now.

It looks good, but as someone on another board said, it's basically the male nerd version of Malibu Stacy with a new hat. It's so lazy and uninspiring from a creative standpoint, but of course we'll all lap it up.

If it's a good movie, that's really all I care about.

Agreed. Spider-Man has been my favorite fictional character for as long as I can remember and I am completely bored by this trailer.

Should've been Donald Glover.

We had a good Spider-Man origin movie not ten years ago. It might technically be well-made, but it's got so much more to prove before it can dispel the air of being a creatively bankrupt cash-in.

And the whole "destiny" angle they seem to be shooting for is really, really annoying and removes the "Peter Parker was just an ordinary kid who got powers" core of the character.

Yeah, whatever they're going to reveal about his parents has a pretty good chance of being a flaming bag of crap.

Joe Chill killed his parents. Jesus this looks like Twi-Spidey. Garfeild doens't look the part at all neither does the guy playing Curt Conners. Lizard looks like the baby Godzillas in Godzilla 2000. Everything looks like a CGI mess coupled with trying to give it the Nolan vibe. I do like the supporting cast, but to me Spider-man is nerdy Peter Parker and if he just looks like a loner goth kid then we have problems. Like Amos said, we had a good to borderline great Spiderman origin, we don't need to know about his parents unless they are going to bring in Red Skull or Hydra which I doubt.

So is Dennis Leary's character gonna be the new J.J. Jameson?

I've finally cracked it! Lot J-X is the internet geeky hive-mind come to life! It explains so much.

Trailer looks great. The costume doesn't look like something a teenager would throw together. Though... I guess the "look at my crotch" design might be something they might try.

No, I am just a fan of Spidey since I was 11. I have no desire to see Spiderman going into Batman territory. I am sure it will make money mainly from overseas, but this looks nothing like the Spiderman and Peter I know and care about.

Seconded.

I'm not really fussy about whether it lacks creative genius. Mostly I just want my superhero movies to be a fun ride with plenty of action. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

Of course. Because there has never, ever been a precedent for quality, darker Spider-Man stories in the 50 years the character has been in publication:

The Death of Jean DeWolff (complex.com)

Spider-Man: Reign, which is NOTHING AT ALL like Batman (complex.com)

Kraven's Last Hunt (complex.com)

Gwen Stacy fucking died (complex.com)

To name a few.

Nor does Spider-Man, whose pivotal key point in his established origin is when his Uncle Ben is murdered by gunshot by a criminal (complex.com) have anything at all in common with Batman.

To suggest otherwise is creatively bankrupt.

Those stories were few and far between for Spiderman thus they become special reads expect Reign, its such a DKR rip-off its kinda sad and fails on a lot of levels. Uncle Ben, ok, you got me there, but he is still not the dark character, they are trying to make here. He wears bright colors, talks smack and fights during the daylight.

John, I went down this road already (The W). It only leads to madness.

As for the trailer, I think the look and tone are great. I'm a little concerned that the acting performances won't be stellar, but we'll swing across that bridge when we come to it.

It's a tough road to hoe.

People are arguing against the very temerity of this movie existing, using any reason they can possibly think of. But it doesn't matter: This movie exists. It's done. It's coming out. There's a lot of bellyaching resistance to it existing, but it'll be here anyway. I completely understand the business and financial reasons for Sony making the movie. I like the trailer, I like the actors, I'm interested. All I care about is if the movie is good. If it isn't good, I'll say so. If the movie is good, I'll say so. And that'll be that. All that matters to me is the quality of the movie and how much I enjoy it. The bitching is just noise, irritating noise.

I suppose I agree with the personified internet hive mind. Spider-Man has always been about the comedy for me. He's the court jester of the Marvel Universe. I don't like seeing a depressed, tormented Peter Parker. Kraven's Last Hunt was awful, and I only read Reign because the library had it on the shelf when I was picking up something else.

I like a wise-cracking, swashbuckling Spider-Man, with a bit of the lovable loser Peter Parker thrown in. I want to see Spider-Man outsmarting his hilariously themed villains with science, not fighting wars of attrition. I want to see Peter struggling to pay the rent and make it to a date on time, not battling to save his soul.

Dan Slott is the best writer Spidey has ever had. I would love a Spider-Man/She-Hulk book where they travel around the world in the Spidey-Mobile and solve wacky mysteries.

I'm a little more interested than I was from the teaser trailers. I just REALLY hope they don't put that first person stuff in that was in the teaser.

My girlfriend and I actually just watched the first two this week (she had never seen them). They mostly held up well, except some of the effects. I remember being amazed by them in the theatre, but they definitely dulled 10 years later. Forgot how many of those city shots were in the dark.

And yes! Donald Glover for spider-man!

First taste of anything that makes me want to see this. Leary looks great as Capt. Stacy. Also, looks like we get some BANTER. Still, we get ANOTHER unmasking scene. I swear, if I was directing Spider-Man I wouldn't even talk to an actor that insisted on face time.

It's generally the studios that insist on the face-time.

If the were smart, they'd play it where after the initial movie it's just a stunt guy as Spider-Man all the time and have whomever just come in for voice work. Saves time and money, never have to worry about the actor aging out of the part, brilliant!

Exactly, and I think this is something they needed to do. Why not tackle something topical for once? It's a departure to be sure, but I think they needed a shakeup of some sort after blandness in Saw 4 and 5.
