When the best thing you can say about this was "At least it was better than the Black Eyed Peas," you know this one's bad.
Madonna didn't look completely terrible when the show started, but you could tell she was hiding behind a lot of special effects, props, and skilled backup dancers.
The wheels fell off as soon as the guest stars arrived, because that's when Madonna REALLY started showing her age. LMFAO had to actually SLOW THEIR DANCING DOWN so that Madonna could keep up. Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. had such a better stage presence and they quickly outshined the star of the show.
Then came Cee-Lo Green, who just blew everybody out of the water. At which point...HELLO! Whoever appoints these things? Get CEE-LO to do the halftime show! I guarantee you he does ten times better than Madonna, the BEP, and the Who for a whole lot cheaper! Madonna and Cee-Lo tag-teaming for Like A Prayer was the lone highlight for me here.
What a disaster. And thanks a bunch, M.I.A.! I look forward to another new overblown FCC controversy!
This was just BRUTAL. I agree with the part about the wheels falling off when the cameos started. I pretty much haven't cared for Madonna since LIVE TO TELL was a hit, and it was embarrassing to see her out there, 'dancing'.
What I don't get is, what demographic is the NFL trying to reach? Not really sure middle aged gay men are a great target audience.

The demographic of "people that aren't interested in football already." All the women are my SB party were much more interested in Madonna's performance than the actual game.
What I don't get was why Madonna felt the need to have Cee-Lo, LMFAO, Nicky Minaj and M.I.A. (oops) all as part of the show. It was Madonna's performance --- having these new acts of the moment on as well just made Madge come off as trying a bit too hard to look like she was hip and with it. Say what you will about the Who, Prince, the Rolling Stones, McCartney, Springsteen, Tom Petty and my god, even the Black Eyed Peas, but they just did THEIR show at halftime. They didn't share the stage with some newbie like this was a stitched-together Grammys tribute act.
Also, the "LUV Madonna" song was absolutely terrible.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball
If prior to last night I told you guys M.I.A. quit doing music after 2007 and was never heard from again, how many of you would have believed it? Because I would have. What an odd, random choice to be a part of a Super Bowl halftime show.

At least it worked out for the best! Oops.

Not funny at all. M.I.A. is awesome and this is just typical her doing whatever she wants. I'm also pretty sure I heard her say "I don't give a shit!" which made me Lol. Her husband can afford any fines that might come from this.

Nobody that heard her last album, for starters. You know, the one that came out last year? Touched off the controversy over her video for "Born Free"? The controversy over her profile with Lynn Hirschberg and M.I.A. tweeting Hirschberg's phone number? The album hitting #9 on the US charts? The fact that her biggest song, "Paper Planes", blew up in 2008?

Izzy Jo (who is 9) has had a running issue with Madonna ever since she came and said "Dad, Steven Tyler and Csarrie Underwood are in the Super Bowl halftime show" a couple of weeks ago, and her response to my response that "no, it's Madonna" was "but DAD, she's SO 20th-century ago!"
During the beginning: "She is like Lady Gaga Jr."
During "Express Yourself" (it went from "Vogue" to that, right? Let's just say it did.): "Is this still the same song or is it different?"
I thought CRZ summed it up best that they kept showing 30 year old Madonna clips so it was disappointing when Madonna circa 1985 didn't show up.
