No real surprises here:

C Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic (top vote-getter)
F LeBron James, Miami Heat
F Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks
G Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat
G Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls

It's hard to argue with those choices; it's the West where it gets a little funky. Thoughts on this lineup, and talk of Eastern Conference reserves?

But I'll try.

Carmelo has been having a terrible year by his standards and is leading the Knicks, who should have been an easy #3 seed, to a below-.500 record. As much as I would have hated to see an EVEN BIGGER South Beach presence, I would have rather seen Chris Bosh get his spot.

For a team that's doing very well this year for a change, it's a bit irritating that no Pacers have gotten any love from the All-Star voters.

But then, less TV visibility, smaller market, et cetera, et cetera.

I would like to see the NBA make a greater effort to make sure every team's involved in All-Star Weekend in some way, shape or form, however. Be it through the mixed-triples competition (a team of Reggie Miller, Danny Granger and Tamika Catchings would be amazing for Indiana), the skills competitions, Slam-Dunk contest, three-point shootout or what have you.

Give a fan of every team some reason to watch, nawmean?

I'll be interested in the reserves, to see if someone like Luol Deng finally gets his due. Surely the Celtics don't send 4 like they did last year, which should give some deserving East players their shot at being an All-Star.

Meh. I thought the Knicks would be a playoff team but not an easy 3 seed.

My picks for reserves:

PG-Deron Williams
SG-Joe Johnson
SF-Danny Granger
PF-Chris Bosh
C-Roy Hibbert
Reserves- Rajon Rondo, Amare Stoudamire

Carmelo hasn't been terrible even by his standards, he's just been playing his role as the next T-Mac. He shouldn't be a point-forward and the injured wrist has made his shot very spotty. He should be rebounding more though.

Amare has been terrible by his standards. The only way he should be a reserve is if they want star power over performance.

... and I liked the Amare Knicks better than the new Carmelo Knicks

Prefacing it by, as the older I get the less of a fan of all-star games I become, but, in this condensed season with few off days, is there an advantage to not having your players make the All Star Game?

I just don't understand it with Hibbert, he's got an NBA body, runs the court well, but he's a fouling machine with zero offense. Go figure...

Well, I'd agree with you if you were right. (Incidentally, I'd put Sam Bowie way, WAY ahead of Darko Milcic on the all-time flops list. Or most of the people drafted the same year Len Bias was).

Anyway, here's the official list of Eastern Conference All-Star reserves, and Hibbert is on it, thank you very much:

F Chris Bosh, Miami Heat
F Luol Deng, Chicago Bulls
C Roy Hibbert, Indiana Pacers
F Joe Johnson, Atlanta Hawks
F Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia 76ers
G/F Joe Johnson, Atlanta Hawks
F Paul Pierce, Boston Celtics
G Deron Williams, New Jersey Nets

My apologies, I mistook Roy Hibbert for Hasheem Thabeet. Roy is 100 times the player Hasheem is. I had a bald moment.

'Bout to say! (And I'll agree with you 100% on Thabeet).

I was about to say that Joe Johnson has been mediocre this year, but apparently he was good enough to get TWO All-Star spots. Wow!

Meanwhile, Josh Smith gets screwed yet again. Unbelievable.

This crap actually pumps me up, especially when the small school defeats the big school. The only thing that gets on my nerves is when CBSSPORTS switches games on you every 5 min, even while your local team is in action. Is Gonzaga really that good?...
