This idea was posted by AverageJoeEveryman on Scott Keith's board and I just thought it was too good not to share.

"I want to start a new "THING" like planking or Tebowing. It will be Road to Wrestlemaniaing. I will walk around and randomly point to signs off in the distance. Restrooms signs, road signs, Arby's signs, doesnt matter."

I could see this catching on, then Michael Cole catching on and totally ruining the fun by talking about it nonstop.

We did this at my place last year - I printed out the Wrestlemania logo and put it over the doorway. Every time somebody walked in to join us to watch WM, I played "Written in the Stars" on my computer and made them point to the sign.

^That's funny.

When does Undertaker cross the line between veteran to pathetic, or has he already? How long can he do the wrestle one match and leave for a year thing?

I kinda like that WrestleMania, the bigbigbig PPV, has one match that you don't see anywhere else: Undertaker vs. Streak Breaker. It makes the angle special, or would if we didn't see four consecutive years of repeating challengers. I admit, this year's match -- presumably Taker's last, ending with a nice fat round number of wins -- loses luster if Hunter gets in that ring against him again.

This post is not about the banner point.

Well, this is the first time he's sat out for an entire year. And the storyline is explicitly that he's at the end of the road, the suggestion that he might be pathetic now, and that the streak is the only thing he still lives for.

I'm with Matt: Taker doing only one match a year, of that magnitude, actually adds value to his aura and to Wrestlemania. And as long as the matches have the quality of the last five (should be harder to meet every subsequent year) and emotional impact of the last three (should be easier to meet each subsequent year), I think it's something to look forward to.

Look at it at this way. It's a four year story of the intertwining careers and retirements of Undertaker, Michaels, and Triple H. Five years if you include Michaels putting Flair down. It's even more resonant if Michaels referees this match as is expected, and especially so if Hunter mirrors Michaels' two-and-out retirement. IMO this ongoing subplot has raised the stakes from "a Superstar wishes to try to end the Undertaker's streak this year."

Will it be his last match? I don't think so, although I don't think anyone really caught on that it would be Shawn's real last match until it was. If he's just going to rest up and go all out for one match a year, I think he could hold on for Wrestlemania 30, John Cena, and 22-0, which is not as round as 20 but is still a pretty number. Then again, two years is a long time. I need just one more match after this one with Cena, because the audience dynamic of the horror of the golden boy who always wins being unjustly handed the streak is too good to miss out on.

Next year is the real question mark for the Streak. There is no doubt Taker wins this year to hit the round number of 20-0, but after that, if he loses the Streak will still have the aura of "twenty-year perfect record," which just as Justin said, sounds better than a 21- or 22-year record.

Too bad Taker wasn't at WM10 and WM16, or else he could've realistically thought about reaching 25-0.

Cena/Taker would be a perfect headliner for WM29, especially to capitalize on the uncertainty of if the Streak would end after the round number. If Taker pinned Cena to hit 21-0, the pop would be epic.

But, still, let's get back on topic. Look at banner, Michael!

It will be interesting to see what Taker has left in the tank. If he blows something out early in the match which seems more likely every time he's out there then you have a total mess on your hands. He is going up against another part timer who really can't carry a match anymore either, so you have to over book it, you probably have to keep it shorter than usual and then I don't know. Going against Cena next year would wrap it up in a nice little package, but he might be able to do that to the quality that we expect. It's really tough to predict what you are going to get out of the guy this year. A year off is a long ass time.

I just... don't see it. I don't understand the appeal. Bar the two HBK matches, it's the one match that I usually fast-forward through on every WrestleMania since they started hyping this blasted streak. The Undertaker will win. Without a shadow of a doubt. It doesn't matter how many finishing move kick-outs they do, we all know who the winner of the match will be... right? So... why does anybody give a damn? What's the fun in knowing the outcome? If anything, the streak should be less appealing nowadays because Taker is so legit broken down and beaten up that he has no business winning against a younger, fitter competitor (not that Trips is a spring chicken, but he's not as old nor does he have as many debilitating physical problems as Taker... and he's not wearing a wig).

I think back to Beyond the Mat where Terry Funk has a dream match against then-WWF Champion Bret Hart at a retirement show (a retirement that lasted all of five minutes, but still...). Bret wants to put the Funker over, but Funk says something like: "Nah. The fans will never believe a beaten up old man can beat the champ." That makes perfect sense in my mind.

Apologies for taking the thread off-topic again. FWIW, I think Wrestlemaniaing is a splendid idea and I'm definitely going to do it to my fiancee the next time she asks me where I want to go eat *stares meaningfully at the Pizza Hut sign for five minutes and then points*

Much as I hate HHH and have actively negative interest in HHH/UT 2.5, he really is the only guy besides Michaels who I'd trust to be able to ad-lib a salvageable finish out of things if a UT-injury doomsday scenario did happen.

The most baffling thing about the entire 10+ years where the Streak mattered is that, in all that time, it never once occurred to them to start building a challenger with his own undefeated streak ahead of time. Edge had a streak going (5-0?), and then they threw him in a multi-man match to lose the year BEFORE they finally set him up against Undertaker. I think RVD and Santino (!) are the only active people with more than one WM and no losses now.

Back to the topic! As I said in the Raw thread, I already grew to hate the Stare At The Sign spot when HHH and Undertaker ran it into the ground last year, but if they're going to keep it going, I'd at least like to see a variation where Kane points to the sign and then sets it on fire with his pyrokinetic powers. Also, the way to write UT out for a year after he wins this time: the sign falls on him right after the match, seemingly crushing him, and when they pull it off him, the only thing left is his crumpled hat and his hair.

Justin, I see the four-year plan's attraction, but if you're Hunter, the only thing you can do to beat Taker is hit him a hammer. Three pedigrees, a tombstone, and a spinebuster through a table couldn't get the pin. How do you work a match when Taker's proven he can survive your AND his finisher? We need special stipulations, and that smothers a match that has a built-in gimmick: the streak.

Miz is 2-0, though he has lost on pre-show Mania matches. It'd be fun to see Miz win MITB this year and then start claiming that he's "9-0" since he beat a bunch of guys in the one ladder match.

I vote for WWE to start pitting Santino in various comedy matches every year to build his own streak. Like, this year Santino challenges Michael Cole in 'a battle of the unbeatens.' Next year he challenges, like, Virgil or someone who's inexplicably never lost at Mania.

I just think if Hogan or Bret Hart did this they'd catch a lot more flack. If Rock is a jerk for only showing up via satellite once in a while, what does that make Taker?

Actually, he was active during the summer of '10, including defeating Rey to get into a world title Fatal Four Way (but suffering an injury that kept him out of said match) and then feuding with Kane, leading to the return of Paul Bearer and the involvement of the Nexus. (Yeah, I had to look it up.) (Edited To Add:) Hey, that would actually be a GREAT excuse to do the Barrett/Taker match Dr. Unlikely proposed on the other thread, which I think would be MUCH more interesting than HHH/Taker Mania III.

Well, Hogan catches flack for everything. Incidentally, they never did a Hogan/Taker Mania match, and Hogan really would be the perfect guy to try to end the streak if he were anywhere close to physically capable of doing a half-decent match at this point. (Not to mention that we'd get some drama out of the fact that we'd wonder whether Hogan would actually agree to job when the time came.) Of course, Hogan *isn't* physically capable, so that doesn't mean much.

I'm not sure Hart would have caught such flack. Hart also never faced Taker at Mania, and of course Hart is the one guy who is even less physically capable than Hogan.

As for Rock, it's a little different, because clearly Rock is able to wrestle a lot more than he does--he just doesn't because he has another career that he considers more important. There are a lot of good reasons why he considers it more important, but I can understand why some fans are somewhat resentful of it. And, yup, Rock never faced Taker at Mania, and that actually could be a really, really good idea for next year, if Rock is willing and Taker can still go.

I think that, with the Undertaker, it's more within the mysteriousness of the character to go away and come back, unexpectedly, in such a supernatural way then it is for, say, someone like Hogan or the Rock.

Does it really matter? As long as they go out and put on a great match which entertains, they continue doing that. Personally I thought that last years match was very good and I'm looking forward to seeing another.

At the end of the day, it's all about whether or not the crowd goes home happy or not and you can't deny that he hasn't failed to deliver on that yet.

I believe the only people who think Rock is a jerk for that are McMahon, Cena, and possibly Triple H.

No one else seems to really care, which is why when Cena keeps playing that lame "I'm here every week" card, he still gets booed.
